Linguaglossa: Charming ancient house in Etna - Linguaglossa

Ancient house composed by two/three bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathroom, garden and terrace.
It's sited in the old heart of Linguaglossa village (reacheble by bus and local railway) on the east flank (550 meters) of M. Etna Volcano.
On the ground floor there are the hall and the little garden; upstairs there are the rooms with refurbished ancient furniture, and the terrace adjacent to the kitchen. Some ceilings show reliable old nice frescos.
This ancient home built in 19th century, is 15 minutes (by car) from the sea, 20 from Taormina, 20 from Etna forest and volcanic theatres, 45 from Catania, 50 from CT Airport, 100 from Syracuse.
Several interesting excursions (hiking or mountain-bike) may be enjoyed to the M. Etna, to the beach, to the Alcantara gorge, etc. The house owner (national authorized guide and geologist) will be happy to supply accurate trips information.

A window into a wonderful Mt. Etna town history and life

This is a very accommodation - the ancestral home of the host family. They are gradually restoring it, so it is a little bit of work in progress, but absolutely we recommend it. Sergio and his wife met us to welcome us and show us all the details of the sprawling property, from the romantic garden, the spring (?) water that was so good to drink, the rooftop perch, etc. Linguaglossa is one of the towns/villages on Mt. Etna and part of the "wine road". The world of Mt. Etna vineyards and wineries is very dynamic - we could feel the energy and excitement. We could go hiking on the various parts of the mountain, depending on the weather. And the little restaurants and food/wine scene were wonderful! Sergio and his wife were enthusiastic cultural ambassadors and introduced us to the restaurants catering more to the local residents. Thank you for a wonderful home base!! It is not a modernized hotel experience, but if you love history and local connections, we would recommend it.

Antique charme

This charming antique mansion is located in the historical heart of Linguaglossa, right between the fascinating slopes of Mount Etna and the sea. Despite the hot summer days, we were able to keep the house nicely cool. The adjoining terrace was a great added value in the evening, as well as the quiet garden with its own source of potable water. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly owners who immediately gave us knowledgeable advice on possible excursions in the area. The volcano and the region have few secrets for them and we gratefully took advantage of the tip to go to the beach of Marina di Cottone, where a stream of fresh water flows from the bottom into the sea. Good for the kids to play in and to wash off the salty seawater. Despite the age of the house, it is equipped with basic comforts. The kitchen could have offered a little more comfort such as a dishwasher or a bigger cooking stove. Anyway highly recommended!

Get the best of both worlds in Linguaglossa

We visited Linguaglossa to see the town where my grandmother's family came from (early 1900s), so being able to stay near the main square in a historic house was our primary reason for choosing this rental. Sergio and Giuseppina have created a very comfortable place to stay while still preserving a lot of the old charm. The house is very close to the busy main street (convenient to shops and restaurants), but the neighborhood was very quiet and we were always able to park just steps from the front door. Our group included my parents (in their mid-70s) and they were also quite pleased with the accommodations. The owners met us there at check-in, gave a lot of useful advice for the house and the town and were easily contacted via the VRBO app both before and during our stay.

Sicilian authenticity

While the apartment was very nice, clean, we found the location to be difficult to drive to on narrow and winding rural roads. We felt the town itself to us was overpoweringly confining. We left after one day. The hosts were extremely cordial and accommodating but this just wasn’t our cup of tea. For someone else though it may prove the perfect stay.

Beautiful and very welcoming stay in a perfect location

First of all the location and the house are incredible. The owners Giuseppina and Sergio are renovating this typical Sicilian house with lot of love and sensibility. The interior is really amazing and so much better then a commun hotel or B&B because you get a real idea of the Sicilian culture. Also the exteriors are very night to spend the evening with a glass of whine and the food you can by just next door in a small local shop. The location is perfect to explore Etna, Taormina, the beaches etc. Restaurant are very close. Within 20min you get to every nice spot in the area. Also Giuseppina and Sergio received us despite the late our and gave us precious advices where to go and what to see. Hopefully, hopefully we will come back. We very warmly recommend this beautiful place. Es it’s so toll, wir können es nur allerwärmstens emperlent. Amelie and Johan + kids

Fascino etneo

La casa di Sergio e Giuseppina si trova nel centro storico di Linguaglossa, a due passi dalla Piazza Matrice. La suddivisione degli spazi è quella tipica di una costruzione di metà Ottocento, la cui identità i proprietari hanno cercato di preservare il più possibile. Le camere da letto sono ampie, in particolare la doppia. La cucina è essenziale ma dotata di tutto il necessario. Nonostante il frigo molto piccolo, la strettissima vicinanza di negozi di ogni genere consente di gestire la spesa quotidiana senza alcuna difficoltà. Il bagno è spazioso e funzionale. Dalla cucina si accede al terrazzino interno, dove è possibile godere del fresco proveniente dal giardino sottostante. Il contesto, benché centralissimo, rimane riservato e tranquillo. Linguaglossa, luogo ideale per trascorrere una vacanza varia e interessante tra mare e montagna nella zona tra Messina e Catania, merita a sua volta di essere esplorata per apprezzare gli affascinanti scorci che si celano tra i vicoli e le chiese del centro storico, reso ancora più gradevole dalla cordialità dei suoi abitanti. Quanto al Covid-19, il senso di responsabilità e disciplina della popolazione locale ci ha consentito di trascorrere le nostre vacanze in assoluta tranquillità, nel pieno rispetto di tutte le misure di prevenzione previste dalla normativa vigente. Il vero valore aggiunto della proprietà, però, risiede nell'ospitalità offerta da Sergio e Giuseppina, che con sincera passione hanno scelto di condividere la loro casa con quanti siano in grado di apprezzarla. Fin dai primi contatti, la disponibilità dei proprietari è stata totale. La descrizione della casa si è rivelata assolutamente fedele alla realtà e, all'arrivo, nel corso di una gradevole chiacchierata, ci è stata mostrata nel dettaglio tutta la proprietà e ci sono stati offerti preziosi consigli riguardo ai luoghi da visitare e alle attività da organizzare durante la vacanza. Sergio e Giuseppina ci hanno fatto trovare in casa tutto l'essenziale , tra cucina e bagno, per poter iniziare comodamente il nostro soggiorno (compresi alcool e disinfettante per le mani), e hanno prontamente accolto le nostre richieste mostrando una costante attenzione alle esigenze dei propri ospiti senza mai risultare invadenti, con l'intento di farci trascorrere una vacanza serena e rigenerante. Esperienza suggestiva e fuori dal comune, vivamente consigliata a chi desideri soggiornare in un'autentica dimora storica lasciandosi avvolgere dal fascino etneo.

Superbe location

Nous avons énormément apprécié l’accueil de Sergio, Guiseppina et leurs enfants. Ils ont consacré beaucoup de temps à nous présenté les différents lieux d'intérêt dans la région et toutes leurs recommandations étaient excellentes: plages, randonnées sur l'Etna et sans oublier les places gastronomiques ! Bref, cette famille est charmante et vraiment très accueillante. La maison est exceptionnelle par son histoire et sa décoration: les plafonds sont ceux d'un véritable palais et nous avons adoré le carrelage, la très belle baignoire et tant d'autres objets... Elle est aussi très bien située: au calme en plein centre ville. Tous les services sont à proximité. Non loin de Linguaglossa, nous avons beucoup aimé le village de Castiglione et la rivière en contrebas. La plage de San Marco est très belle également. Les randonnées autour de l'etna sont très variées et les paysages sont vraiment très beaux. Mais Sergio et Guiseppina vous expliqueront tout cela mieux que moi...

Une très jolie découverte et maison pleine de charme (parfaitement équipée) nichée au coeur d'un village qui offre toutes les commodités.

Absolutely Charming

When Giuseppina and Sergio let us into their family's house in Linguaglossa, my wife and I could scarcely believe our eyes. A nineteenth-century house built for a successful wine-grower, its interior, from its elegantly tiled floors to exquisitely painted ceilings, is a testament to Linguaglossa's role in Etna's rich and fascinating enological history. Sparely yet comfortably furnished with carefully curated pieces, the house felt like a portal to another time. The house has no less than three different patios, each of which provides a slightly different vantage of Linguaglossa, its streets and rooftops, and in the not-too-far distance, Etna, smoking, steaming, and booming away. Sergio is a geologist by training, and a vulcanologist by specialty, and on our visit took us on a wonderfully illuminating walking tour of the volcano. Giuseppina, also a scholar, likewise, regaled us with all sorts of fascinating stories about Sicilian culture, from the songs of the fruit vendors to the symbols embedded in the pastries that she and her husband brought us one day from the best bakery in Catania. The house's kitchen was small but well-equipped and perfectly capable of turning out everything you need for a dinner party, the fixings for which can easily be rounded up just a few steps from the front door. Linguaglossa has more excellent produce stores, bakeries, alimentari and butcher shops than you can shake a stick at, and to a one, their owners were, to a one, extraordinarily kind to an American shopper who didn't always know the ropes. Linguaglossa makes a most excellent base for exploring Etna's wine-growing region and the national park, and Giuseppina and Sergio's house is the perfect place to come home to. We dream of it just as we dream of our next trip to Etna.

Merveilleux séjour dans un lieu magnifique

Nous recommandons tout particulièrement cet appartement, clou de notre séjour en Sicile tant par la beauté des lieux que par l'accueil extraordinairement chaleureux de Guiseppina et de Sergio. Pour ceux qui sont sensibles à la culture italienne, vous adorerez les fresques, meubles anciens, le "jardin du cloître" et la terrasse sur l'Etna. La générosité et la gentillesse des propriétaires n'ont pas d'égal. Vous saurez tout sur l'histoire romaine de la région, l'architecture, la géologie, l'Etna etc.... Proche de Taormina, Catane, idéal lieu pour visiter cette partie de la Sicile.

Wunderbare Gastgeber, herrliches Haus

Nous avons passé des vaca...

Nous avons passé des vacances merveilleuses dans cette maison d'un charme exceptionnel. Les propriétaires Giuseppina et Sergio, d'une extrême gentillesse, ont restauré chaque détail avec amour et beaucoup de goût. La beauté de la maison renvoie vers l'essentiel, loin des valeurs de consommation... Parfaitement propre, elle est idéalement située à 500m d'altitude. De ce fait, en été, les journées sont chaudes et les nuits agréables (20-22°C)! On peut manger à toute heure sur la belle terrasse car elle offre toujours de l'ombre, de plus, il n'y a pas de moustiques ou de guêpes. Le jardin est bien entretenu et très joli, nos enfants s'amusaient à faire des batailles de pistolets à eau dans l'ombre de la cour fermée par un portail. Les alentours sont également d'une grande beauté, les paysages, l'Etna omniprésent... Deux plages de galets à 20-25 min. de voiture, avec douche ou l'eau douce glacée du fleuve Fiumefreddo. Les gorges d'Alcantara, l'Etna, une réserve naturelle, Catane, Taormina... offrent beaucoup de possibilités de belles excursions. Nous gardons des souvenirs pleins de belles émotions de notre séjour.

"Derrière une façade austère se trouve la location pleine de charme de sergio et giuseppina : grands volumes, fresque au plafond, coup de foudre assuré. Accueil sympathique de sergio qui parle bien le français et vous renseigne bien sur les balades à faire. On regrettera juste l''équipement minimaliste : évier , plaque de cuisson,frigo table de terrasse très petits, bien pour le petit dej mais insuffisant pour faire un peu de cuisine. Idem pour la vaisselle réduite au strict minimum."

"La casa che abbiamo affittato per una settimana a Linguaglossa merita da sola la vacanza! Ne'' le foto ne'' la descrizione le rendono merito, visto che si tratta di una meravigliosa dimora dell''800 che i proprietari hanno riportato agli antichi splendori. Soffitti affrescati, splendidi pavimenti conservati perfettamente, mobili e oggetti originali d''epoca, cura dei dettagli, un meraviglioso terrazzino dove cenare e un bellissimo giardino dove prendere il fresco ne fanno un alloggio da favola. In piu'', la posizione centralissima fa si'' che a cinque minuti a piedi ci siano bar, pasticcerie, ristoranti, negozi di frutta e alimentari. i proprietari sono stati gentilissimi e accoglienti, fornendoci anche una serie di informazioni indispensabili per scoprire le meraviglie dell''Etna, una meta imperdibile in un viaggio in Sicilia. Una casa che ci e'' rimasta nel cuore."

Trés belle maison ancienn...

Trés belle maison ancienne, restaurée avec soin et raffinement, une jolie terrasse et un adorable jardin au pied du parc de l'Etna et au coeur du village de Linguaglossa, proche de tous commerces. Accueil chaleureux des propriétaires, Giuseppina et Sergio, qui sont également d'excellents guides pour visiter l'Etna et la région. Nous garderons longtemps le souvenir de cette magnifique région de Sicile.

"Excellente location dans une demeure ancienne pleine de cachet: immense hall, plafonds de 5 m de haut avec fresques, nombreuses terrasses avec vue imprenable sur l''Etna. Bien sûr tout cela manque un peu de confort, mais quel dépaysement! Le village est plein de ressources et constitue une base de départ parfaite pour Taormine, Syracuse, et bien sûr l''Etna. Propriétaires pleins de gentillesse et de cordialité, parlant en outre correctement le français. A recommander chaleureusement."
