The Donjon de Lastic gîte is situated on a large, wooded estate (2 hectares) at the edge of the Saou forest. Bordered to the south by the Vèbre river, the Donjon de Lastic, built in the 16th century, has been listed as a Supplementary Historical Monument since 1926. It is an architectural gem with elegant décor, set in a preserved natural environment, surrounded by nature but not isolated. The 10m x 5m swimming pool (secure, unheated) is shared with the owners. It is equipped with a diving pit (1.80m) and an infinity jacuzzi with a massage pump. A charming and characterful place, it is ideal for an exceptional stay in any season. On-site, you will find outdoor sports, relaxation, arts and culture, and fine dining. The owners occupy a completely independent space in terms of access and privacy. Private parking on the property, bicycle storage and barbecue in the private courtyard. Optional extras upon request: bed linen and towels, and end-of-stay cleaning.

We enjoyed our time as two families visiting the Saou forest area - the beautiful surrounding dramatic countryside and great walks - and the unusual and amazing house that Eric and Christine welcomed us to. The pool, garden, courtyard and house were perfect for our two families, with the unusual old house a treat to spend time in, and the garden, pool, stream and surrounding area perfect to give space and time for relaxing.
*A small point - the listing isn't quite right as linen is not included in the price.

Thank you Mark
We enjoyed the company of your two families during this stay and are delighted that you had a good time.
Best regards,
Eric & Christine
We had a wonderful stay with Eric & Christine. The property & community were incredible & they were lovely and responsive in all our needs. Our only feedback is that there are minor discrepancies with the VRBO listing that were not an issue to us, but may be to others so we will list them here. The pool is shared by the owners & was closed for our use at 7:30 pm - which was 30 minutes earlier than described in the info binder. This was disappointing, as we were vacationing with kids & had hoped to enjoy the spa after they went to bed. We didn’t bring it up with the owners because the spa apparently was not heated and the evenings were too cool for comfortable use anyway. We were also told upon arrival we had to clean prior to departing or pay a fee. This was not in the VRBO listing and per VRBO rules, you cannot impose fees for cleaning when it is not explicitly stated in the listing. We did clean prior to leaving, but it was obvious they expected us to deep clean during their pre-departure walk through. We enjoyed all the animals, but there were MANY birds and two dogs that were often in our space. There were mouse droppings in some of the drawers and kitchen spaces - the kitchen could use a deep clean. Linens were also not included but they said they comped them for us. This should be noted in the listing. What they told us were interior motion sensors very much appeared to be cameras based on an internet search. Great stay but wanted others to know this!

Thank you, Elyse, we're glad you had a good stay.
Thank you for these comments, which clearly highlight the need for more details in the listing (the available templates don't always allow for this) but also for better communication with our guests before arrival and during their stay.
Sheets and linens are listed as optional on the VRBO listing, but it's true that it's quite difficult to read. So, when preparing the cottage for your arrival, we thought, "They can't possibly be arriving from the USA with their sheets," and decided to offer you the service.
We're in the countryside, and it's possible a mouse may have been there; sorry I didn't see any signs of it!
There is indeed a camera connected to the motion and fire detectors. The images are only visible to the security company to clarify any doubts in case of fire and when the intrusion detection system is active outside of rental periods.
Best regards
