Great cosy place to stay with all the amenities we needed plus more then desired in the apartment. Great and quick communication from the host, would definitely stay here again
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this comfortable Newcastle apartment! It was wonderful to come back at the end of a day in the city and surrounding countryside and switch on the cozy fire and have access to a kitchen and laundry. The property and surrounding area were as described and Dylan was very welcoming and responsive to our questions before and during our stay, We highly recommend this property!

Very well presented apartment. It's comfortable and clean. On road parking is plentiful and free. 20 minutes walk from nearest metro station.
Delighted with our weekend break ! The property is 5* and only a 15 min Uber ride to the quayside for £7 and it was great to be able to come back in the afternoon for a relaxing couple of hours before heading back into town for a bite to eat in the evening. We ate in the chinese one night which was only a 15 min walk away and found a real good menu and very friendly staff. We will definitely use this apt for future visits to Newcastle.
Many thanks to Dylan for keeping us up to-date with all info for checking in etc that was a great help.
PS the Back Alley was mentioned previously - yes it’s got a bit of rubbish but don’t let that put you off … keep the bathroom window closed and you won’t see it - didn’t bother us at all.
One thing I would suggest Dylan a small outside table and chairs would of been nice at the back door would be good for future guests as we had gorgeous weather and would of sat out when we came back - no big deal though.
Thank you and hope to stay again soon.
A wonderful flat to stay at, a 30 second walk away from a convenience store. Looks absolutely adorable inside, especially the kitchen area. The owner has absolutely fantastic communication and I cannot recommend a stay at the Coalminers Cottage enough if your travels bring you to Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Its absolutely wonderful to have VRBO owners that actually communicate with you and dont patronize you as a foreigner. The owners here were lovely.

Very homelike. Central to where we wanted to go and several convenient stores nearby.
We had a great time. It was lovely and warm and the bathroom was clean and modern.
Daryl was a great host and was easily contactable. We would stay again.
It is typical of a Victorian row house so remember you need good knees!

Stylish and Comfortable
Lovely place - really comfortable but stylish too. Nice extras like really fast wifi, digital radio, docking station, but the place, although clearly just done up, has a homely traditional feel, and we liked the oak fireplace in the living room too. Apart from the park and a couple of cafes, not loads to do within walking distance but we headed for the city centre anyway - just 5 minutes away in an Uber.

Very nice apartment
We had a lovely time in Gateshead. The apartment was immaculately clean and tidy. Everything we needed was there and the atmosphere of the apartment was welcoming and cosy.
It is walking distance from 'The Little Theatre' and we enjoyed the panto there on the day we arrived, so it was a great start to the holiday!
Dylan contacted us soon after we arrived to check if everything was ok, which it was. It was thoughtful, especially in the run up to Christmas.
We would like to come back and would recommend staying here again.

Clean and Cosy Cottage
Really nice place, decorated beautifully with a very cosy, comfortable feeling. The kitchen is well-equipped, with good appliances, and the shower is great. Beds are really comfy, so you get a great sleep! The on-demand TV service is also good for when you want to relax with TV or a movie. Internet is fast. The location of the property is also good... very close to a tasty bakery and the leisure centre (with gym swimming pool etc), and handy for getting a bus into central Newcastle. The car parking situation is very convenient - there are always available spaces. The owners themselves were also very helpful and accommodating. We had an excellent stay!

Cozy and comfortable home away from home
Stayed for three nights with my husband and two young children and this apartment was amazing! It looked exactly as in the photos and was immaculately clean. The apartment came equipped with everything we needed including tea and biscuits in the kitchen! There's a little shop just a two minute walk away where we picked up a few personal items the night we arrived. The beds were so comfortable we all found it difficult to get up each morning! All the gorgeous little decorating details like the faux fireplace in the living room and cozy throw blankets on the sofa made us sad to leave this lovely little place! The owner Dylan checked in prior to, as well as during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. Hope we have the opportunity to visit again!

Perfect little place to stay
We stayed at Coalminers Cottage for 3 nights with our 10 & 8 year old & it was perfectly situated to explore Newcastle city centre & the surrounding countryside.
A very clean & comfortable accommodation, situated on the first floor of a Victorian property, Coalminers cottage is tastefully decorated to make it feel just like home.
Dylan, the owner of the property was very helpful & prompt in answering any questions/issues we had.

Sumptuous Apartment
We were so comfortable here. Dylan has created a really unusual place - finished to a high standard and modernised but in a traditional, distinctive way. Liked the artwork and the unusual furniture. Cheap cab into the city centre, and enjoyed feeding the ducks in the local park! Lots of local corner shops nearby. Great value lunch at Dominics Cafe just 5 minutes walk away. We also had an amazing evening meal in Gateshead, overlooking the Tyne at SIX @ Baltic, great view although the nice weather helped.

Lovely place
It's a great place, everything is provided. I think it's a good price for what it's worth. Owners are willing to cooperate. Only problem is that the place is not very close to big supermarkets or shopping areas. But overall, I would like to go back there again if I were to visit Newcastle
Response from VrboOwner on 28 Mar 2020
Glad you had a good time. Coalminer's Cottage is in a residential area, so the big shopping areas of Gateshead's MetroCentre and Newcastle's Eldon Square are a couple of miles away. But there is a Tesco Extra a few streets away, and there is a corner shop for emergency provisions just over the road from the apartment.

Fantastic flat in Gateshead
We loved the flat. We were working in Newcastle for two weeks and it was such a beautiful and restful place to come back to. Everything worked well. It had all the amenities we could have wanted and it was beautifully decorated. Dylan was amazingly helpful and a great host.

About the host
Hosted by Dylan Younger
I am your joint host at Coalminer's Cottage, along with my partner, Karen Bell. We are self-employed landlords and do-er up-ers. I am a former sports journalist - Karen is still a brilliant yoga teacher. We are in our mid-40s and now have two grown-up children. We are passionate about Newcastle and the North East, and corny as it sounds, passionate about property too. We have put our heart and soul into providing a lovely home-from-home at our two apartments - Coalminer's Cottage and Docker's Digs. We've stayed there ourselves and love it. We hope you do too - it's a convenient and comfortable base to explore and get the most out of this fantastic part of the world. We will leave you in peace to enjoy your stay - but help and advice is always on hand if you need it.
Why they chose this property
Our apartment, named Coalminer's Cottage, has been designed and decorated to reflect the industrial heritage of the North East. We have completed a sympathetic restoration of this Victorian building, with exposed colliery brick, oak panelling, and revitalised heritage furniture coupled with unique hand-made pieces. We provide luxury mattresses and towels and Egyptian cotton white bed linen. We want every minute of your stay to be in a memorable and comfortable apartment. You will be provided with fresh towels, two pillows for each bed (firm and soft) and there is a private sink and mirror in both bedrooms. Hairdryer, iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner are also provided. There is a large double bedroom with king size bed, a spacious twin room, a living room with oak fireplace, a large kitchen (with dishwasher, dryer, washer, oven, microwave and fridge freezer) and a fully-tiled bathroom with large walk-in shower.
What makes this property unique
Fast cable wifi is free of charge and our Samsung Smart TV provides instant access to all catch-up services. There is a electric stove, USB sockets in the kitchen, DAB radio and docking/charging station for your iphone or ipod. All bills are covered and there is instant hot water in our dual-outlet shower enclosure. We have spent a great deal of time and care to provide a comfortable home-from-home, close to all the amenities that Tyneside has to offer. Please respect this, and other homeowners in what is a residential area. This is not the apartment for you if you want to have loud parties late into the night. We are a £5 taxi ride from Newcastle's Quayside (one of the city's prime locations for bars and restaurants) and a £7 fare from Newcastle Central Railway Station (2 miles away). At the end of Rectory Road, the No 54 bus takes you into Newcastle's city centre in just 7 minutes. The apartment is just half a mile from the A1, so offers easy access for travel north and south. a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute bus ride takes you to Gateshead town centre, where you can access the Metro network for underground rail travel to the coast (South Shields, Tynemouth or Whitley Bay) and across Tyneside.
