Charming Beach House with Warm, Cosy and Contemporary Interior
This beautifully situated Coastguard House overlooks the sea and mountains from every viewpoint. The little fishing village of Cleggan is just a 5 minute walk away, with its four pubs, restaurant, local shop and famous pier with trips to the idyllic island of Inishbofin.
A 10 minute walk past horses, donkeys and cows will take you to Selerna, one of many the sandy beaches that surrounds the Aughrus peninsula.
Having been recently renovated, the White House is open and modern with a Sonos system, WiFi, NEST heating system, wood burner and projector.
The house comfortably sleeps 6 people with a double bed in the master bedroom and 4 bunk beds in the second bedroom. There is also a large double sofa/bed in the parlour that pushes the maximum capacity up to 8 people.
The town of Clifden is a 10 minutes drive away, where you'll find supermarkets, a good range of restaurants and boutique shops as well as the excellent Mullarkeys music bar.
It’s a great little house, perfect for a couple or families, a quintessentially magical Irish Beach House on the most westerly point of Connemara.

Great place to stay ! It was a bit tricky to find at night, but Niamh was very responsive and helped us out. Very positive experience, I would advise this place to anybody. Cheers.
We had the absolute best stay, the house was super clean and well kitted out for visitors. It was incredibly cosy and welcoming. The house is a short walk to the village of Cleggan and a nearby beach that was stunning. Niamh was a super kind host who helped with our questions and made sure we got settled in safely.
The property was perfect for a getaway to the west coast. Great access to the wild Atlantic way and only a short drive to Clifden. You will need a car but it's a great quiet spot to access the beauty of West Galway
The house and town of Cleggan were lovely and welcoming! Oliver's Bar had excellent food and everyone in town was nice:) Don't miss out on the trip to Inishbofin!
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this lovely house. It was so well-equipped, we had everything we needed and more. The peaceful setting made for a truly relaxing break, and we really appreciated how clean everything was. The location was also ideal for discovering the beautiful island, stunning beaches, and the incredible Connemara National Park. We had some wonderful days out. Thank you!
The house was charming, warm and well equipped. The location is perfect,as it is walking distance to Cleggan village and its amenities.
The setting is tranquil and would recommend a trip to Inisboffin.
Tiny quirky cottage in Cleggan with a history. Established in mid 1800’s as coastguard station house. Charming village with great local seafood. Ferry to Innishboffin walking distance. Easy drive into Clifden for supplies if necessary. We loved our short stay here.
This house was in a super position walking distance from Cleggan Pier and village. It was cosy and had all the things we needed as a family, including our dog which was a great bonus. We would definitely return again as it's a perfect base for exploring around spectacular Connemara.
Perfect location for a tour of beautiful Connemara
Beautiful house, extremely cosy, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Ideal location to explore Connemara. I really enjoyed having a beautiful beach about 5 minutes walk for the house.
I really enjoyed my Stay here and Niamh couldn’t have been more helpful and attentive.
I would definitely return.

Clifden
Only stayed one night, the toilet seat was broke, shower had no pressure, trash in living room basket, crappy lamps, outside was a mess.A little update on the building and repairs inside would make a big difference.
We spent two nights in the Station House. The house was comfortable, warm and kept the wind out! The nearby beach - Selerna - is a little gem and great for swimming. Cleggan gives a sense of remoteness but is easily reached from Clifden or the road south from Westport. Recommended.
I wanted a place that offered:
- character
- comfort
- walking access to a swimmable beach
- walking access to a store
- walking access to a pub that served good food
This house ticked all these boxes.
In addition the owner was super helpful in her communication.
There are a million small details when you are renting a holiday cottage. I think the owner thought of all of them!
I would definitely come back!

Quintessential West of Ireland Experience
The White House is ideally situated with views of the sea from the bedroom and the Twelve Bens in the distance, with pastures adjoining and a beach just a few minutes walk away. It's been modernized with nice features such as a Nest system, and having the Sonos to play my own tunes was also nice bonus. It serves as a good base to come home to each night if you plan to tour the Connemara region, or if you would like to get away from it all, cozy up at home and just soak up the surrounding nature. As others stated, the host is very responsive on the app should you have questions. Relax and enjoy!

Charming House and Wonderful Owner
Cozy semi-detached house in beautiful western Ireland. Well equipped and updated. Small washer and dryer are in an outbuilding next to the house. WiFi was great. Cleggan is a lovely and quiet small coastal village and was the perfect location for exploring the Connemara area. The home owner was very nice and communicative. She kindly left a welcome hamper with bread, etc. The house sits on a hill with a view of the countryside and the ocean in the distance. We stayed in 5 towns while on vacation in Ireland. The Cleggan/Clifden area for 4 nights was our favorite and we were sad to leave!
My family of seven, two adults and five children, had a very enjoyable stay at this cottage on the hill. You can eat outside in the semi fenced courtyard complete with picnic table and rambling roses. There's no ocean view from the home, but there are lovely views of rolling hills and sheep. We even saw a rainbow! The town is a block or so down the road, no sidewalk. The town is very small, but everyone we met was friendly and they've everything you need. There's a small grocery and the best fish n chips at LITTLE FISH! You can catch the ferry to the island or drive through Connemara National Park. Some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. The lakes were mirrors to the mountains around them. We made some happy memories here.

Nice cottage in Cleggan
We arrived tired after a long drive to find a gift basket and a note on the table providing information and letting us know that the kitchen at Oliver's Pub just down the road would stay open late for us to get a bite to eat. Hazel at Oliver's welcomed us and made us feel at home. We were in constant contact with Niamh and she was very helpful. The cottage was very spacious and the amenities were very modern and if excellent shape. Everything you could need was there, including games for the family to play and kitchen supplies with spices, etc. Exploring the region was fantastic, from the desolation of Connemara (Bog Road) to the amazing views along the coast (Sky Loop Road, Dogs Beach, etc.). Kylemore Abbey was as amazing as advertised and the small towns in the area each had there own great pubs. Clifden is a short drive away with phenomenal restaurants and pubs with entertainment.
This lovely modernized old station house was perfect for our stay in County Galway. The shop and few pubs (with live music) were only a 5 minute walk (though walk carefully on the narrow shoulder!) and the larger town of Clifden a short 15 minute drive. We were welcomed with bread, jam, biscuits and milk, a treat we have never had in all our many HomeAway rentals. Everything was as described and a great size for our family of 6 with the room with 2 bunks ideal for our 4 kids. We explored Omey (10 minute drive dig for clams!), the SkyDrive (10 minute drive), as well as Ashford Castle (1.25 hrs). We drove by Kylemore (30 minutes) and Connemara (Same distance). All to say it’s a lovely secluded home base for your time. We did a guided hike with Sean O’Farrell - booked on our own but look him up. He even told us where to find fresh mussels and our kids had a blast! We can’t say enough great things about this spot!
This property is outside of the lovely little town of Cleggan, where my mom is from. I spent my entire life enjoying summers at the house (living in NYC) that my grandparents built, which is a 10 min walk from here. There are gorgeous hikes, beaches, a sweet restaurant or two, pubs with music and a ferry to an island that is old and beautiful all walking from here., And a bus to Clifden. The house has a lovely historic feel with all the amenities one could want from a rental. (I was able to borrow a heavy rain jacket with a hood when I needed one.) We enjoyed the land and location, which are superb, but on the second week of our trip (family wedding in Westport) we all came down with Covid. The owner couldn't have been nicer, helping to juggle another booking so we could recover before leaving, and being mindful of proper cleaning protocols. She took care of us with the kindness and compassion of a friend. I think the place is great value and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Modern, sunlit property on the rugged, western Irish coast
My husband and I first visited Ireland 18 years ago on our honeymoon, but wanted to bring our seven and five-year-old sons to visit this magical place again. We stayed eight days and nights in Niamh's cottage, and had a wonderful time. A few of the delights that made this place so special: Niamh's quick and friendly communication; the welcome basket that Hazel left for us (highly appreciated after a long flight and drive!); the onsite washing machine and dryer; the scenic five-minute walk to downtown Cleggan and the Inishbofin ferry; and the clean, modern home with reliable wireless internet that allowed us to cook meals, check emails from family and friends, and listen to streamed music every day. Words cannot express how beautiful this part of Ireland is, and coming home to a stress-free house every day after spending long hours exploring the nearby sights made the experience even better. We really enjoyed how close we were to gorgeous places like Kylemore Abbey and Killarey Harbour/ Leehaun/ Westport, but even longer drives to Galway City and Sligo were relatively pain-free. We hope to return to this house again, and look forward to connecting with Niamh and her neighbors again soon!

About the host
Hosted by Mrs White House
I've visited Cleggan since I was very young, staying in a house at the end of this little row of Coastguard Houses, and I would walk pass this house thinking it was so lovely and it was the perfect home. After 3 years of looking for a holiday home in the area this house came up for sale and I could not believe my luck. Straight after the purchase I found myself pregnant (which was amazingly lucky), so we spent 6 months renovating with our fantastic builder to restore the house a few years of neglect. The result is better than I could imagine, a perfect getaway from our busy lives in London. The house has been a blessing which keeps on giving.
Why they chose this property
This property is perfect for a family, couple or a gang of friends who want to get away from their town/city and get some fresh air, go for walks with awesome surroundings, swim, kayak, explore, go riding (there is riding stables down the road) or just enjoy a nice pint or glass of chardonnay whilst watching the fisherman bring in their goods for the day.
What makes this property unique
Close to the village, so no need to drive when going to the pub or restaurant, outside fitted shower with hot tap, westerly aspect giving incredible views from every viewpoint.
