About this property

DIRECT OCEANFRONT Duplex with large 3 level deck next to Oceanana Fishing Pier.

Direct beachfront duplex with huge deck overlooking the dunes and Oceanna Fishing Pier. When you vacation at the beach you want to be AT the beach not near the beach. Keys are provided via a lock box, so check-in has no in person contact.

Our family has owned this unit for over 26 years, and we do annual updates for our guests' comfort. The 2020 and early 2021 period gave us an opportunity to do a total renovation with replacing most of the drywall, new flooring, and fans. We have new modern appliances, deck furniture just as a hotel would, hammocks below the deck and my favorite feature, outside enclosed showers with HOT & cold water for your outdoor showering pleasure.

New wall colors, more parking and new covered entryway are just a few of the upgrades. We provide pretty much everything you need to walk in and relax. We provide a fully stocked kitchen with spices, paper goods (when in short supply bring toilet paper and paper towels but we do start you off) , zip lock bags, aluminum foil ( bottom drawer beside refrigerator has paper towels and toilet paper) and just ask that you restock if you have time so the next guest has everything they need.

Each unit is a mirror image of the other except for color schemes and flooring. Both units are updated annually, and during Covid we added a UVC germicidal light in our ductwork to kill viruses and mold to help make our heating and air system cleaner and better for those with allergies.

The VRBO listing for the sister listing is 666411, so you can read the reviews there if you like. We also have a cleaning crew who lives locally to keep the unit in great shape throughout the season and follows current 2023 cleaning recommendations. Each side has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths plus the outdoor shower provides outdoor comfort when you come back from the beach. The huge outdoor deck allows everyone to spend time outside and eat on the deck, too, if you like. It's a great experience preparing your food with the provided outdoor grill. Recent upgrades include a few new ceiling fans, new 4 burner stainless steel grill, new couch, new stove and new twin XL beds in the 3rd bedroom. If you love sunsets and sunrises, please look at our pictures. You'll notice very few sunrise pictures (by choice) but tons of sunset pictures. This is a rare east/west facing beach, so you get awesome sunrises and fantastic sunsets. We provide beach chairs and some toys for the kids too but remember to bring your beach towels.

Our neighbors own and manage the only privately owned Event Venue on the NC coast "The Cottage at The Crystal Coast" which is 5 houses up from ours. They host live events, concerts and weddings so check them out at www.thecottage.com. You might see a concert listed on their "live events" calendar and decide to walk to the concert with your friends or book a wedding event for the future and have guests stay at our units.

Having the pier just a few hundred yards away is an amenity you are sure to enjoy. Even if you don't fish, you can walk on the pier and see if anyone else is having luck and enjoying a beverage from their bar or, better yet, make one and take it with you. If you like to surf, either side of the pier creates fantastic breakers and has always been known as one of the best surf spots on the island. If you would rather fish and don't like the pier, surf fishing right in front of our house can provide lunch or dinner!

You'll quickly notice our beach is very large, wide, clean and relatively uncrowded. Our end of the beach is primarily single family homes for low density uncrowded beaches. If you want to walk the beach you can head towards the circle (town center for Atlantic Beach) and visit the world famous TackleBox (locals dive bar), have a beverage outside at Idle Hour or eat at one of several restaurants. Just a few blocks from our unit (easy walk) can have you at Amos Mosquito's, arguably one of the best restaurants around and the Island Grill, which is just up the street. It may be small but the food is fantastic. You can always drive over to the Morehead City waterfront and choose between a dozen different restaurants or head over to Beaufort and shop and dine on the waterfront.

Whithaven is a special place, I hope you get the opportunity to join us and see for yourself.

Restful and Relaxing
We had a restful & relaxing stay. The accommodations and all the extras (beach chairs, games, hammocks) were exceptional. We had everything that we needed to make our stay wonderful. The location was nice and quite. The view from the decks allowed you to view the beautiful sunrise and the sunsets every day. I would recommend this house with out hesitation. Hope to plan another trip here soon.

Great place
Wonderful place to stay right on the beach. This home was exactly as advertised. It is a duplex, and the porch is shared with the neighbors. This created a little issue with there dogs being protective of them. Parking is a little tricky, but the host did a wonderful job of setting expectations and explaining the how to. We had a very nice stay.

About the host

Host profile image
The Whitley family is from eastern North Carolina. Our parents were from small towns near Wilson and Greenville and we grew up in New Bern and Atlantic Beach was always where we went to the beach as our grandfather had a trailer at the old Iron Steamer Fishing Pier near Pine Knoll shores

East Carolina is a common thread in our family as our mother graduated in the 1940's. Gail, the oldest got her masters in education from ECU, Linda graduated in the early 1980's in speech pathology and Lee graduated in 1983 in business and more recently our daughter Reagan graduated in 2021. We are all scattered around now but still love to visit as much as we can.

Why they chose this property

This is just a special place. While it is not new or luxurious by today's standards we continually upgrade each unit in the off-season to make improvements each year.

You can walk when others have to drive. Go to the pier for a walk or beverage or when you are hungry. When dinner time arrives you can walk to numerous restaurants but try Amos Mosquito's and the Island Grill as they both are outstanding and just blocks away.

The location is also outstanding in that when you come over from Morehead City you turn left at the light while in season everyone else struggles towards Pine Knoll Shores or Emerald Isle. You go a few blocks and turn right on Money Island Drive, then go to the end of the street and turn left and ours is the green just down Glenn Street.

What makes this property unique

Great fishing, surfing and a big wide beach with huge dunes I have built over the years by putting our Christmas trees in January of each year! We spent way too much money building our new deck so you can enjoy yourself overlooking the beach and pier. Our end of the beach is very wide, clean, safe and relatively uncrowded even in season. Since the Island is East/West facing you get outstanding sunsets and sunrises if you choose. If you want high rises and tons of entertainment, go to Myrtle Beach. If you want old style family beach with single family homes behind the dunes and clean uncrowded beaches, you have come to the right place!
