About this property

Our Place of Joy: An Ocean Retreat

Length of stay: MINIMUM 30 NIGHTS. Monthly rental. Property damage insurance required.

Kai Lani is a quiet gated community located in Ko Olina, a 640 acre oceanfront resort on West Oahu, the dry leeward side of the island. Ko Olina means 'Place of Joy,’ where the aloha spirit welcomes you to big blue skies punctuated by white clouds and palm trees kissed by the sun. Disney’s Aulani, the Four Seasons, and Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club anchor this premier resort.

All the luxuries of an upscale oceanfront property await our guests. Our 1320 square foot open-concept plan with its nine-foot ceilings offers three lovely bedrooms. Prepare for the day in the master bath with walk-in shower or a guest bathroom with a tub-shower combination. Ceiling fans cool each bedroom as well as the living area, and air conditioning provides comfort on balmy days. Smart TVs in the living room and in each bedroom provide family entertainment.

Furnished in a tropical coastal style, this comfortable first floor unit boasts a full kitchen to prepare home meals and gas grills just a two-minute walk away. Or venture further to dine at one of the many restaurants in Ko Olina’s pristine 5-star resort. Take a refreshing dip in Kai Lani’s heated pool, followed by a soak in the adjacent hot tub. Swim with the turtles at the Paradise Cove "Turtle" Beach, just two blocks away. Walk the 3-mile path along the four man-made lagoons of Ko Olina or spend the day there basking on one of the white sandy beaches. After dinner, walk down for a spectacular sunset at Milo Cove, the little beach minutes from our lanai. Spot an occasional Hawaiian monk seal or gentle sea turtle sunning itself on the rocks. Life doesn't get any better than this!

Interested in a day trip? Drive to the North Shore to watch the surfers ride the waves and grab a lunch of fresh garlic shrimp at a local shrimp truck. Our convenient location provides easy access to Waikiki, the Waianae coast, or the airport. Enjoy the best Oahu has to offer and return to your home away from home surrounded by lush tropical landscape -- our Place of Joy in Ko Olina.

About the host

Hosted by Vicki Cobb

Host profile image
My husband and I had retired, having lived and worked in the Chicago area our entire lives. An electrical contractor, Ty owned and ran Ty Cobb Electric, while I taught English to high school students. We also dabbled in real estate, including rental properties. As for recreation, Ty loved to hunt and fish; I loved to take photographs. We are proud of our family, including four children and nine grandchildren.

Why they chose this property

We had vacationed in Ko Olina as timeshare owners for over 10 years. Our timeshares treated us well in January and early February, providing us a 6-week reprieve from below zero temperatures, ice, and snow. As owners we were treated like royalty at Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club. We enjoyed the beautiful grounds, the lush swimming pools, amazing lagoons, and the 3-mile walking path along the ocean. We fell so in love with the area that we set out to purchase a condo in Ko Olina.

We decided on Kai Lani Estates, the only low-density Ko Olina condos with ocean views. In 2011 Ko Olina was a buyer's market, so we made an offer 21-D based on photographs provided by our realtor. Having owned and rehabbed properties in the Midwest, we were not new to real estate investments. But purchasing this property sight unseen took a leap of faith, a risk that neither of us have regretted. In fact, my husband has threatened to tie himself to a palm tree when it's time to fly back to the mainland! Our grandchildren from Bozeman, Montana and St Louis, Illinois have fallen in love too. They have enjoyed spending the day swimming at the Paradise Cove beach in Ko Olina, known as Turtle Beach. Gentle lumbering turtles swim there every day. We love to share our Place of Joy with friends and family.

What makes this property unique

I have dreamed of a waterfront view. While working, we had purchased rental properties in New Buffalo, Michigan, but lakefront property on Lake Michigan was beyond our reach. A cozy cottage next to a stream and a block from the marina was as close as we came. Kai Lani has satisfied a life-long dream for me. As a former boater and fisherman, Ty has loved the water too. The ocean has restored us.
