The home is more rustic than modern, but still very charming. The outlets did not hold cords tightly and lighting was dim. Unless you’re comfortable navigating a canoe or kayak on the river, it is not for a beginner. The dock was easily accessible from the property and the neighbor was very kind. Overall the property was in a great location to downtown and driving to Monte Rio and and the coast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The place is spacious and comfortable.

Downstairs Smell
Upside-the upstairs was nice with a couple decks to sit out and enjoy the trees. The living room and kitchen were straight forward and comfortable. We cooked daily and ran the ceiling fan to beat the heat and generally enjoyed the place. The front door keypad lock is finicky and the managers responded well to help us learn to operate it.
Down Side- We didn't use either downstairs bedroom because an acrid moldy smell permeated the lower floor. I slept upstairs in the living room rather than go downstairs, it was that bad. The surfaces downstairs were clean with no visual signs of mold, but the smell was intense. The downstairs floor was spongy in places and I imagine the subfloor and crawl space are not well ventilated. We worked around it, but something was not right.
We stayed here for me pre-wedding weekend and had the most lovely time. The dock useage was wonderful and we loved swimming and using the canoe. The home is lovely and feels like a treehouse in the forest. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed for making tea and breakfast. The location is beyond perfect- gorgeous and close to town, wonderful to go for jogs and walks in the area!
Roomy enough for our party of 6. It was wonderful to have very close and private access to the river. The owners were even nice enough to let us use their canoe and sup. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking pots and pans for cooking. The kids got a kick out of some of the LP disc player.
Great cabin feel in the woods with river access. Too bad the river's algae bloom made the river not so great to swim in but the house was nice, beds comfortable and hot tub was great after being in the ocean all day.
My only issue was that the BBQ was rusty and could not be used, which bummed me out since I had prepared most meals to be BBQ'd. Otherwise a great place with lots of room. The dock with water toys was fantastic for the kiddos. We loved the area. Quiet and peaceful.
Overall, Drakes Place suited our needs perfectly. PROS: clean, well-stocked, comfy beds, great access to the river with a nice dock and water toys, the river temp and nice shaded dock was great. Finally, our hosts were friendly, very quick to help us out. Lovely people.
CONS: The refrigerator died so we had to use the one in the downstairs garage (but good news - there was a dumb waiter that really helped). The sofas were very uncomfortable as was the deck furniture.
But, if the furniture was replaced, we would stay here again for sure.
Our family stayed over the 4th of July weekend. We liked the location, quiet yet close to town, river. Very comfortable house. Sufficiently equipped for our family of six adults.
The property was great for us - spacious and comfortable. The kitchen had all the conveniences. The river access is just 100 ft from the property. Unfortunately due to the weather, we were not able to utilize the river or the hot tub. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great house to stay in the area.
We really loved the string lights - put us in the holiday mood. T A small gripe would be that the house was freezing when we reached and took a long time to heat up.
Shannon was a pleasure to communicate with as well and was very clear with instructions and direction.
This is our second stay, and we absolutely love Drake Place. It is so peaceful and convenient. Shannon is so pleasant and responsive, We plan to stay here every time we are in town, and highly recommend!
Such a wonderful property close to town, steps to the river and very peaceful. The home is spacious with two decks and a huge kitchen. The rooms are huge with comfortable beds. There's plenty of space in the kitchen to cook and prep meals. Check in and check out process were seamless. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home. We will be back.
We booked this property for a relaxing girls weekend/childless-mom vacation before school starts up again. It was perfect! The house was spacious and adorable and we all felt right at home! Possibly the best part was drinking coffee in the morning on either of the two decks upstairs. The stairs down to the river were a little steep, but nothin g unmanageable. Having our own space on the river was a HUGE plus! We brought our own river floaties and connected to each other, so we didn’t end up using the canoe/kayak, but it was a nice option to have. Close enough to town to run into Safeway on a whim, but far enough removed to feel remote. Plus it was super easy to contact the property owner with questions. One of the girls and myself have already started planning a trip back with our families! Such a nice stress-free vacation!
We enjoyed the long weekend, especially our time on the river in the canoe at the private dock. The house was open and relaxing, all as advertised. We had breakfast daily on the front deck, relaxed in the hot tub evenings and bbq’d dinner. Shannon was responsive when we needed to communicate. I would recommend this property to my friends.
Beautiful, spacious house, very clean, very well equipped. Beautifully located in the woods, so it doesn’t heat up during the day. Couldn’t wish for more.
Property was exactly as described and perfect for our group of six. House is spacious and comfortable, with two great patios. Shannon is easy to communicate with and quick to respond. Location was perfect, just a few minutes drive to downtown or to any of the beaches. Definitely recommend!
This was an easy get-away from San Francisco. We had a fabulous time- canoed down the river to downtown for lunch, cooked, relaxed in the hot tub. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend.
The owner/manager was responsive to messages and flexible with our check-in time (we actually didn't end up checking in early because we hit up some local wineries on the way). Checking in and out was easy. The hot tub worked well and fit 4 comfortably. We liked that the house was so close to the river. One evening we found the stash of games and played poker. We also enjoyed listening to the records.
The highlight of the trip was when 3 of us took the canoe and paddle boat out onto the river. The current is so slow it's more like a narrow lake. Next time we'll bring a large party float to fit more people and a cooler and stay out there much longer.
The only thing I'd suggest people to be aware of is that it's on the opposite side of the river than most of the restaurants and bars and crossing the bridge to get over there can be very slow as traffic backs up (at least on during the July 4th weekend).
This place was perfect!
This was a last minute “boys trip” for myself and my three boys. The owner was extremely friendly, accommodating and responsive. The house is clean and incredibly well stocked - kitchenware, laundry detergent, toilet paper, toiletries, games, propane, records, Wii, smart TVs, etc.
It should be noted that the property is across the street from the water versus on the water. Not a big deal but one could get the impression that it is on the water.
We are definitely keen on returning.

Relaxing and beautiful location
We really enjoyed the stay, nice deck and open and comfortable rooms, dining. There was minimal light to be able to read in the bedrooms.

Such a sweet house
We loved staying here with two other couples. The house is big and well-appointed. I really appreciated the decor and views of redwood trees all around. I would definitely stay here again.

Relaxing, quiet, great location, nice house, responsive homeowner.
My girlfriends and I had a wonderful time in Guerneville staying at this comfortable home away from home. It had everything we needed. All we had to do was bring food. The kitchen was well stocked, even with spices, to do basic cooking, and the dining area is spacious or you can enjoy your meals with wine on the deck. Another cool thing is that after dinner, we were able to enjoy a soak in the hot tub which looked new and clean. The location was perfect. We floated down the surprisingly warm river to Johnson's Beach which is also just a short drive away. We took a leisurely stroll in Armstrong Redwoods State Park which is less than 2 miles away. The town is so close to this house but far enough away that you can relax. The house layout is fantastic because it has nice size communal areas but the bedrooms are separated enough to feel private. The house is clean and uncluttered. We would all stay here again. Thanks!
