I live in a two-story ranch home with a full daylight two-bedroom apartment on the lower level. The property abuts a forested area with walking trails and is very close to iconic Portland green-spaces like The Rose Garden, Forest Park, Washington Park and the Hoyt Arboretum. The apartment itself sleeps four in the bedrooms with space for one or two more on a futon in the living room, however, due to local laws there is a five guest limit. There is also a private entrance, and kitchenette which makes this space ideal for a small group of people looking for a quiet, private retreat within a 10-minute drive to the city center.

This home was wonderful! Close to the freeway and downtown while still being in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. Plenty of room and everything we needed. The temps stayed cool even without air conditioning, even though outside it was over 90 nearly every day. We would love to stay here again!
We enjoyed our stay in this spacious walk-out basement apartment. The setting was beautiful and it was convenient for us to visit family not too far away. The property does not have a TV in either bedroom or the living room. The listing is accurate but its pretty rare for a VRBO not to have a TV so it took us by surprise.
Our stay at Sibyl’s was great! It was exceptionally clean and very easy to check in and out. The space itself was very large and spacious. And the location was fabulous! Very safe, cute neighborhood and really close to a lot of the Portland sights. The three things that could have been improved were: 1) We previously asked and arranged for the use of the baby travel crib, however, when we arrived, there was no crib and we could not get a hold of Sibyl on the first night. 2) the kitchen/fridge is quite small and it doesn’t have all the features of a full kitchen. And 3) the ventilation is not great in the bathroom and we inadvertently set off the fire alarms from the bathroom steam. It was very startling, especially for our autistic son that has sound sensitivities. Despite these things, however, we really did have a wonderful time in Portland and loved that there were toys for our children to play with. We would recommend staying here!

lovely view in a quiet very beautiful neighborhood.
The beds are comfy and bedrooms very spacious. The kitchenette is very tiny, and there is barely space for 4 people to sit at the table. There is white carpet in the living room and eating area. The kitchenette area is well equipped and very small, with less than 2 feet of free counter space. So if you are planning a holiday with children where you want to cook all your own meals , this might not be the best place for you. If you dont clean the carpet perfectly when you leave, they will keep $70. of your damage deposit.

Response from VrboOwner on 15 July 2021
We would just like to clarify that we do not require that our guests do any cleaning before checkout, we simply ask that you respect the space as if it were your own.
While Joan and her family were very nice people and we are glad they enjoyed staying here we felt that there was a disproportionate amount of damage left behind. We decided it was necessary to retain part of the deposit as additional cleaning fee. It is unfortunate that their stay ended on such a bad note when it was otherwise clear that they enjoyed themselves.
It is true that our space is equipped with a kitchenette not a full kitchen. We therefore advertise this space as comfortably appropriate for four guests but five are allowed when desired--again most of our reservations follow this policy. It should be noted that Joan had a party of six adults and a child. We made a special accommodation by allowing their reservation and it should come as no surprise that the kitchen space felt small.
Again, we have never before needed to retain the damage deposit as an additional cleaning fee for anyone else who has stayed with us and we hope that it will not be necessary in the future. We wish to assure the VRBO community that minor disagreements happen on occasion and we appreciate it when the parties involved communicate their disapproval constructively and respectfully.
We stayed here for 4 days and everything was really great. The place was very clean, parking on the street. Nice patio to sit out on, really a pleasant place, I hope to book it again when I go back to Portland.

Great location!
This basement apartment is so close to the city but up in the forest and hills; for us it was the perfect location. It had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and Zoe was very kind in showing us around when we first arrived.

Lovely two bedroom apartment
Four of us spent four days at the Mad Court House in Portland. It has two large bedrooms, one bathroom, and a spacious living area with a kitchen. The neighborhood is very quiet. We had ants come into the space one night but the manager took care of the problem immediately and otherwise everything was fine.

Private, comfortable, great for families!
We had a great stay! The two bedrooms are nice sizes & the restroom looks brand new! The space has a living room/kitchen that has a door on either side leading to the hallway. That was great because when people are in the living room it doesn't disturb anyone who is sleeping. Everything was clean and in order. The location was convenient to head to the Sunset Transit Center to take the MAX train downtown for an event, the QFC (and other businesses) are just down the road. Our hosts were flexible when we had a miscommunication about check in time. The two induction burners are plenty for making food & we didn't miss not having an oven as the toaster oven is sufficient for making toast, etc. There are stairs that lead to the lovely trail behind the house. It is tricky to see the second to last turn to get to the residence, so just go slowly!

Excellent place not far from the downtown
We (2 adults, 2 kids) had an excellent stay at the property. The location is very close to the Washington Park and downtown. The property is a lower floor of a house with a separate entrance. There are 2 bedrooms with a good queen bed in each, a studio with a kitchen, a bathroom and a laundry room. There is a patio facing the backyard and forest. The unit has no AC, but it is not needed - we were staying there in the midst of Portland heat wave and the rooms were cool all the time. All the appliances were in good working order, the internet connection was fast. Highly recommended.

Large, clean, quiet stay with a beautiful view of large trees in the back
Thank you for a pleasant, welcoming stay. The kids enjoyed the ride-on toys you offered which made unpacking upon arrival much easier. Location was very close to the zoo, children's museum, grocery stores, coffee shops, etc. Hopping over to the Pearl District for a delicious Italian dinner and a playful time for the kids in the water feature at Jamison Square was convenient and easy. We would stay here again.

An Amazing Family Time!
My wife, almost 2 year old son and I loved staying at this place for a week. It is so close to so many things in Portland: the zoo, children's museum, downtown and under an hour and a half to Cannon Beach. Yet it is remote enough to feel relaxed and experience the country life. We loved the living room and enjoyed curling up by the fireplace most nights. We would come back here for sure!

Clean, comfortable, great location, gas fireplace!
We enjoyed our stay here. Zoe and Sibyl were very helpful and responsive when we had questions or needed something. The property is located about 5 minutes drive from the Portland Zoo, Children's museum, and Washington park MAX station. It's possible to walk there, with sidewalks most of the route. (Allow about 40 minutes) Ample free on street parking right in front of the house.
There are two bedrooms, a bathroom, laundry room, and a living room with a futon (the area with the futon has doors to separate it from the bedrooms, hallway, and bathroom for privacy), and a sitting area with a leather chair and loveseat near the really nice gas Fireplace. There's also a kitchenette with a small refrigerator/freezer, toaster oven, cooktop, a large microwave, and dishes, bowls, and utensils.
The space is updated with cork floors and granite countertops. It has radiant heat in the floors, and two space heaters were provided to supplement the heat, although we didn't use them much.
The place looks and smells very clean and they keep it a non-smoking, fragrance free, animal free space, which I appreciate.
The living area has a large sliding door that looks out on the back yard and woods beyond. You can walk right down into the woods, and I noticed neighbors walking their dogs there, although I didn't explore it myself.
The only clue that we were sharing the space was that there are a couple spots in the upstairs floor that squeak, but It never bothered me. It was a great space that fit our needs nicely, and I will definitely consider staying here again.

An extremely quiet and comfortable duplex were exactly what we wanted. We arrived after a snow storm and were concerned about evening freeze, but temps didn't go below 32.

Quiet, but Easy Drive to Downtown
Attractive, clean, quiet (on coul-de-sac), comfortable apartment with easy access (no stairs) for our 93 year old father. It was perfect for our stay to attend a family wedding. Notes around the apartment with instructions were great. Zoe made it all very easy! Thanks!

Very comfortable and accomodating
I stayed in this apt with my sister and our 4 kids under 3 for a few days on a recent trip to Portland. Fantastic! Large rooms, very clean and new everything! Super close to the zoo, rose garden, and children's museum. They had tons of toys, dishes, and a pack and play for the kids. The pac and play was the infant version, wouldn't be suitable for a child older than 9 months (but was perfect for my 8 month old). Hosts are super nice- provided us with a couple of staples so we didn't have to go to the store to make the kids' dinner when we arrived. They also never uttered a word about loud children during the early morning hours.
My only suggestion would be a coffee maker- I think it says there was a French press, which, honestly I didn't look. I would have preferred a drip maker with some unflavored coffee- but I'm a bit of a coffee snob. Luckily there was a Starbucks on the way to the freeway so we were covered!
I highly recommend and would most certainly stay here again!

About the host
Hosted by Sybil Jarrett
I am an empty nester in the old family house in the West Hills. We were originally a six-person Brady Bunch—the Johnson clan and Jarrett Clan, Bob and his two daughters and me, Sibyl, and my son and daughter respectively. When we were down to two, my daughter and I, we opened our home for others to share for many years prior to Covid. Now that I am a retired dentist I get to spend even more time improving this home, my tennis game, my piano skills and exploration of jazz, my workout program (although yard work qualifies here) and hanging with my friends...just to name a few...
Why they chose this property
This place is special because it is tucked up in the hills with a forested area that instills a peaceful feeling. It's got plenty of light and skyline.
