Property is tired and not good value
In the write up there is some pride taken in the fact that the property was renovated in 2006... that was 13 years ago... the decor of the house is showing its age.
The terrace, on the 4th level, is scruffy, dirty and although it really catches the sun, it looks across at other taller buildings not, I quote from the listing, "with beautiful views of the mountains and the town centre". You can see the top of the clock tower in the town centre from the terrace - at least you know the time.
There are 35 steps between ground and 3rd floor which in itself doesn't sound many however they are a good exercise.
The ski lift is 3 minutes away if you're Usain Bolt and only opens, in the summer, at the beginning of July. When we were there, the ski lift was 5 Euro 1 way or 8 Euro return or 20 Euro for the full day. However, only the first stage of the lift operates in summer to the rifugio at about 1,600 metres - Scanno is at about 1,050 metres.
Some things in the kitchen should be condemned under some health act. We washed everything before using it and didn't cook in the kitchen during our 4 day stay.
The WiFi (broadband) is actually a vodafone SIM and, each time I tried to use it some warning came up about paying 1 cent.... Fortunately Scanno, on my own UK phone with Vodafone, has great 4G coverage so I used that to connect my laptop to the internet. Top up your data minutes before you go.
Bottom line? Nice enough place but over priced for what you get.
Fabulous! Scanno is so charming, as is all of Abruzzo!
It was clean and well located. Be prepared for the steps!!
Great property in ancient town
The apartment was lovely and spacious, and in a great part of the town. Close to shops on the Main Street. Only a couple of kilometers from lac scanno which was lovely to kayak on a really hot day.
We thought of the apartment as a bit of a workout as it's on four floors with one room on each floor. Victor was a wonderful host and very knowledgeable on the history of Scanno and Sulmona.
Charming Mountain Hideaway
This lovely restored town home is just as advertised: traditional row house restored to a very high standard in the historic center of the lovely medieval mountain town of Scanno. A great place to get away in a part of Italy that is less-visited by foreign tourists. The town of Scanno is friendly and has dozens of restaurants, most of which will be at your doorstep. Kitchen is well-supplied. There are two nice bathrooms and two very cozy bedrooms on the top two floors. Because the rooms are spread over four floors, this is not the place for those who do not like to climb stairs.
In the Apennines, in the National Park of Abruzzo, at 150km from Rome, 90km from Pescara and 175km from Naples you will find Scanno. Ryanair flies to both Rome and Pescara Airport. Scanno is well connected by bus with Rome and the rest of the region. This mountain village is also known as 'The Pearl of Abruzzo' because of the beauty of its architecture and traditions. Scanno has a stunning historical medieval center and It has kept ancient traditions. The town is surrounded by spectacular nature and a magnificent lake, which has been given a blue flag by the European Union due to its clean waters, safety for swimming and water sports, good services and its spectacular setting. Moreover, Scanno has two ski resorts, Monte Rotondo and Passo Godi with peaks over 2200m. There is also horse riding nearby. Abruzzo is blessed with the famous Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine which is served in the about 20 different traditional and fantastic restaurants you can find in this gastronomic paradise.
