A secluded place for your family to have alone time. Come be in nature.
Perched on the bank of the Tippecanoe River, this house hangs in air like a treehouse, giving optimal river views. The house and river offer leisure and vigorous activities: There's a prolific flowering garden, a screened in porch, outdoor patios, swings, tubing, chair surfing(river lounging), fishing, hiking, bird watching, games, bon fires, nature walks to mention a few. Come be in the wild. A river resident and unmissed neighbor, the great blue heron, unknowingly catches the attention of a room, even if only flying by. A walk to one of the islands, or across the river, is always a fun, and sometimes tricky activity. The Tippecanoe River stands two and a half feet tall at normal height. There is a mile loop that takes you through the neighborhood, for those walkers and runners.
The open kitchen looks down upon the living and dining rooms, making it the central hub of the house. The concrete patio, under the house, is a great hangout year round...sun, rain, lightning storms. This house is a great getaway.
This is not a party house. No bachelor parties. No loud noise or fires after midnight due to neighbors. People live on the Tippecanoe River. Please respect them and this beautiful land we all share. No shooting wild life from the property.
*The fireplace inside the house is unworkable. It is not listed as an amenity. Fires can not be made in this fireplace, sorry for the inconvenience. There is also no TV at the house. Streaming shows from your computer is fast and easy.

The river and woods are the star of this show! So very relaxing! Kitchen well stocked , comfortable living room furniture and floor to ceiling windows offer a gorgeous view. Love the large screened in porch with comfy furniture for hanging out. Can’t wait to come back!
This house was amazing! So peaceful and beautiful. I enjoyed wading the river to fish. Caught quite a few small mouth. This will be our vacation place from now on. Thank you
This was our third time staying here. It’s perfect for a weekend escape from the city and for tubing down the river. The property has a lot of privacy but all of the neighbors we did meet were really friendly. I would bring blankets though as the room closer to the air conditioner was a lot colder than the other room.
Very secluded with beautiful view out the front panoramic windows. Saw fish jumping, deer, Osprey and a bald eagle bathing in the ripples. A real Valhalla. Spacious seating inside and out. Caught some nice smallmouth bass by wading off the gravel bar out front
This was our second time staying here and once again we had a wonderful time! The screened in porch is our favorite spot - you can listen to the river while reading and.
A wonderful break from the city grind. The home reminded me of every woodsy vacation I ever had complete with open conversation area overlooking the river. Great location to get away close enough to Purdue to commute, far enough away to relax.
The tippecanoe is so much fun for kids and adults to play in. We spent hours playing with the rocks, we even saw a soft shelled turtle on the water!
The cabin is very comfortable, clean a relaxing. If I’m ever in this area again I would not hesitate to come back here! Beautiful place!

Thank you Mary! We hope you can return and here the water rushing by :)
It was great to spend some time outside and around this home! Having no tv was preferred and wehad some good quality time together. Property manager was easily accessible and great with accommodating our needs. Would love to visit again!
The property was a little too rustic and remote for three sisters ages 66 to 78. That being said, the house was in a beautiful, natural setting complete with blue herons, deer, rabbits, turtles, wildflowers, in a quiet, peaceful setting. Unfortunately, walking up and down through the basement to get in an out was precarious, causing Chris to take a very bad fall leaving her with a mild concussion. I would recommend a safer form of entry.
The Large, airy house is clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. The best part? A beautiful view of the Tippecanoe River flowing by a couple of small islands. This is our 3rd or 4th stay and we’re planning for next year already.
The view from the living room and screened room were both great and we spent all of our time there. The furniture was quirky med-century modern. We're already booked for next year. I love it!
We enjoyed our beautiful nature stay. Deer out front crossing the river. Bald eagles all up and down the river.
We spent 2 days on the river from the dam to the bridge just past the house. the river was a little low this time but still a doable trip.
we will defiantly be back. we all love this place.
The property is out of view of the road and neighbors were quiet. It may not be a good place for small children. Lots of steps with living quarters a high height from ground.
It was great for a restful, quiet time for adults. The view of the river going by is spectacular.
Delightfully quirky home with stunning river view!
The delightful setting on the river is maximized by floor-to ceiling sliding door windows on two of the living room walls. We loved watching the birds on the river. Geese, ducks, herons and eagles were all seen. A quick, scenic drive took us to the campus of Purdue University where we attended my son’s graduation. The quiet neighborhood was great for a walk, and the people were all friendly. I would definitely stay there again.
This place is such a find. The river is shallow and easily accessible for fishing or wading. House is spacious and has everything you would need, including board games. No tv is a nice break for our kids and I loved the quiet! Also something to note...there are ZERO mosquitos!!! We brought bug spray and literally never used it! We will surely be back!
We had a great time! The house has a really gorgeous view— especially with all the windows. Our kids loved heading across to the island for a nature stomp. I loved hanging out on the patio reading. My husband fished and kayaked. There was something for everyone. Delphi has a near pioneer village and Lafayette has a little zoo and water parks. Plenty do at the house or beyond.
It was a good stay overall. We were in the area to visit our daughter for family weekend at Purdue. We only stayed here as an alternative because there were no hotels near the Purdue campus available. The inside was clean. A little outdated and unfinished in spots, but the seclusion and view was nice. It was about 30 minutes from West Lafayette campus, but not bad. Overall it met our needs and we enjoyed our stay with no issues.

About the host
Hosted by Patrick Schuette
I grew up in Lafayette. For eight years in my teens and younger, I attended Camp Tecumseh, my neighbor now. I have such fond memories of this part of Indiana. On Friday nights, you can hear the drumming and cheers from closing camp fire, a joyous occasion.
I completely renovated this house, for it was deemed inhabitable.
Why they chose this property
This property is unique by its remote location, big open rooms and spaces to enjoy your friends and family, and it's beautiful flowering garden that yields all summer long.
You will certainly see ducks, and geese, and the Great Blue Heron. In springtime, goslings are plentiful. If you are an early riser, expect to see a deer somewhere on the property, they are even sometimes spotted on an island in the river. There are lots of other birds and tiny critters that live along the Tippecanoe River. In 11 years, I have known of no negative encounters with wildlife in the area. Indiana Beach is 20 minutes north.
The house is close to a relatively shallow, slightly swift river. There are an assortment of activities to do. Even watching the river from a comfortable chair is remarkably soothing and rejuvenating.
The kitchen, living, and dining rooms are all connected, with the kitchen three steps up, to have excellent views of the main family spaces. The outdoor concrete patio, under the house, is the perfect place to enjoy being outside, while completely being shielded from the hot sun or a chaotic rain storm.
The garden has been a project of my fathers for many years, with my assistance. Flowers start blooming in spring and continue through late summer and fall. The assortment of hostas provide elegant flowers for months, as each bloom when they are ready. Resurrection Lilies pop out of the ground for only a week usually in late July.
