Hi,
it was a nice place to stay.
Nice house, a complete house to live in.
The little pool was placed on the right spot, with very good views over the river.
Sorry Nicolau, we went a day earlyer, but we couldn't live with the electric power failure in the house.
Kitchen(cooking and fridge), TV and Internet didn't work during that failure.
Before, it worked very good.
I was a bit concerned about some electrical connections in the house and garden.
Watch out with children...
Overal, a nice place to stay.

Thanks for the positive content of the comment.
As for the electrical fault that occurred the day before the guests left, only an electric panel circuit breaker - comprising two sockets connected to the TV and the fridge - I immediately sent a maid to the house to clarify what the problem would be and to make available another existing stove On the spot at gas. Given that problem would only be in the fridge and in the TV there are in the place (kitchen and living room) other plugs that could be connected through extensions, also, existing in the place. The guests were informed that the electricity company would move the day after the place and I myself, after receiving a message, also moved the day before the departure.
After a survey of the house, I noticed that a glass of reasonably sized glass belonging to a balcony door was broken, which justifies such a rush to want to leave.

View the Douro from above
We enjoyed our stay in Nicolau's cottage, for two people it suited us, for six you might need more cutlery, cups and a frying pan in the kitchen and the one bathroom being through the main floor bunk room and the double bedroom might not suit, but we were comfortable. we loved the property, fruit trees of every sort, grape vines. We ate all meals outside on the patio and in the heat the small pool was great to cool down, the views from there are spectacular.

Small, dark, and overpriced
The yard is lovely, but the house is not. It is small, maybe 50 square meters, dark, and it smells of mold. It is stuffed to the gills with knick-knacks, especially the kitchen; we moved two dozen items to make space to cook. There is no frying pan, and we could not get the coffee maker to work - and we have dealt with a LOT of different coffee makers. The owner didn't believe it was broken, and we didn't pursue it, made cowboy coffee instead. The house accommodates 6 only in theory, there are 4 seats at the dining table. The third bedroom is in the dank and moldy basement, fortunately we didn't need that. The mattress in the double bed is old and saggy. Because of the way the house is situated, the view over the Douro can be enjoyed only from one place, outside the bathroom. Outdoor seating is OK, just drag out the wooden dining room chairs. Nice fireplace with plenty of wood. A train comes by about 20 meters from the patio, some 10 times a day. The swimming pool, which does have a good view of the Douro, is a bit of climb away, so we didn't use it; there are no chairs there, just a lawn and the pool.
The house would be OK at 30-35 euros. We paid almost twice that, and the place is not worth it.

Not worth wasting a lot of time with this host: he tampered with everything in the house (equipment, books, lamps, chairs, tables, etc.). Just the first day he sent me a message plus a lot of abusive nonsense and comments about what was in the house and what there should not be informing me that the coffee machine was broken which forced me to get one right away. When I went to the house I found that the guest should not know what a machine was because it was normal ..
It is not recommendable in all aspects ...
