About this property

Apartment with shared pool only 400 meters from the beach

Located on the edge of the quiet seaside village of Almyrida in the Apokoronas region of Western Crete, Petina’s House forms part of a small complex of apartments and is only a 400 metre flat walk away from the beach, shops and tavernas. The landscaped gardens contain a shared pool, with separate shallow areas for young children and non swimmers, as well as a shared small barbecue. The property is on the edge of the village and enjoys views over the surrounding hillside and olive groves. Petina’s House is on the first floor and is accessed via an external staircase. It also has four external balconies, two at the front and two at the back which gives a choice of either sun or shade throughout the day.

The apartment has a large living area that includes a kitchen/diner and lounge area. There is a WiFi, Satellite TV, a DVD, and an I-Pod docking station/radio the DVD player also plays CD’s. The two sofas convert into one double and one single sofa bed if required, giving a maximum occupation of 6. The kitchen incorporates an electric hob and oven, a fridge/freezer, a washing machine, a kettle, a toaster and a microwave as well as a full range of crockery and cutlery, including plastic crockery and glassware for use around the pool. The shower room incorporates a large lighted mirror over the washbasin and a dual shower head.

There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. Both have spacious fitted wardrobes and mirrors as well as bedside cabinets and reading lights. There is also an ironing board, an iron, a hairdryer and a clothes horse in the house and there are four sunloungers for your personal use. Cots and high chairs can be rented separately.

All rooms have air conditioning.

Location

Almyrida is only 35 minutes drive from Chania Airport and around 1.75 hours drive from Heraklion Airport. In order to get the most out of your holiday, car hire is recommended but not essential. Local travel agencies organise several excursions on a daily basis during the summer season, in addition to the local facilities described below. A taxi from Chania airport will cost around 45 euros and there are local car hire firms who will rent on a daily basis

Local interest

Petina’s House is only 400 metres from the beachfront, shops and tavernas. On the beachfront, there are watersports and excursions available for hire, including windsurfing, kayaking, dinghy sailing and snorkeling. The area is also well known for a variety of interesting walks, both locally and in the mountains and there are details available in the apartment. Cycling and mountain biking are other popular activities undertaken locally. There are also many places of local historical interest, principally at Aptera where there is a Roman excavation and an old Turkish fort.

Further afield

Chania is the largest city in the area which is a old Venetian port with a spectacular harbour. As well as boasting many tourist attractions, Chania is large enough to provide for most shopping requirements and also has several cinemas.

There are horse riding centres near Georgiopouli and Akrotiri approximately 40 minutes away and also Limnoupolis Water Park on the outskirts of Chania, approximately 45 minutes away.

The ancient Minoan settlement at Knossos is under two hours away and there are spectacular walks in the White Mountains close by including the famous Samaria Gorge.

Summary

Petina’s House is an ideal holiday solution for families and friends wanting a quiet relaxing environment, whilst still having the option of a variety of activities within a short distance of their accommodation.

Almyrida itself is a relaxing resort suited to couples and families and does not particularly suit same sex groups or young singles looking for large clubs and all night activity.

If you wish to book for a non standard period we will be able to accommodate your requirements.

Also, all bookings receive a welcome pack which includes bread, milk, coffee and sugar. If you have any additional requirements, we will be happy to try to accommodate them for you.

About the host

Hosted by Peter & Nina Layfield

Host profile image
Nina and I have lived in Cheshire for over 37 years and first visited Almyrida on holiday in 2005. We enjoyed the village and its surroundings so much we decided to make a long term investment with the intention on retiring to spend much more time out there. We've now reached that time but still want people to experience the friendliness, beauty and relaxation there is both in Almyrida and on Crete.

Why they chose this property

Being on the edge of the village gives us both the benefit of the close proximity to the beach and the seafront as well as the beautiful view over the olive grove and surrounding hillside.
