About this property

The house of the mediator

Casa Catina is located in the place known as Huerta del Barranco, in the Tejeda Rural Park, in Gran Canaria, the town chosen by Toprural the first of the 7 Rural Wonders of Spain and one of the most beautiful in our country. Its scenic beauty of volcanic nature, the impressive Bentaiga and Nublo rocks and the different varieties of subtropical plants make it a unique place in the world, ideal for resting and practicing outdoor activities.

Former "house of the mediator", housing for the person who shared
"Halfway" the harvest with the owner of the land, has been rehabilitated by its own owners and adapted to the new times. For the materials with which it is built: the cane roofs, the stone floor of the Bentaiga, the tea wood of the pine trees of the summit is an ethnographic source of great value.

The house, with two floors, two patios and a garden-enabled plot, is distributed in kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom with a double bed and living room. The upper floor, former barn, open to the rest of the house, houses a bedroom with two beds and another lounge or games room.

A small path of access to housing connects the solitude and privacy of the place in the countryside with all the services of the town (supermarket, restaurants, health service, bank, etc).

The house is suitable for 2 or 4 people, family or friends.
The second bedroom is a diaphanous attic communicated through a staircase with the lower floor.

In the living room there is a small family library, if you like to read you have the books at your disposal, you can read them and if any you find interesting, you can take them. We also admit yours.

Our plants will love being watered by you. For this it has two hoses in each courtyard.
We don't have television, but we do have internet. We also have a safe.

From the town there are many hiking trails that connect the entire island. It is an inland town. The coast is about 45 km (one hour by car), there is public transport but a car or rental is almost indispensable.

Our family feels very fortunate to be able to share with our guests the charm of our home, the impressive landscape, the clean skies and the immensity of the starry nights. We would love to make you feel at home and to return home with you a little of our spirit.

Beautiful stay in the mountains

We loved our time here! The house has everything you need with a great kitchen. The area is beautiful with lots of great hikes to do, although you have to drive so need a car. It is quite a steep road down to the house so be ready to that. You can walk into town, it takes about 10 minutes but uphill! Tejeda is a lovely town with some nice restaurants, although we mainly ate in. Good to buy food from a big supermarket on the way as in town it can be a bit limited. We had our baby and Catina provided a lovely cot and baby bath. Our correspondence with Catina was also great. The pool area was much nicer than expected, absolutely exquisite with the view. We also enjoyed the patio. The only drawback was low ceilings in some doorways so be careful of your head! We loved our stay and would definitely go back.

Lovely property in an excellent location

Lovely property in an excellent location with a very nice owner and family. As others have said the photographs don't really do the property justice. The property is sited in the Tejeda caldera with beautiful views of the countryside including Roque Nublo, Roque Bentayga, sunsets and night skies. The house is well-appointed and equipped, has character and is clean, tidy and comfortable. We felt at home immediately. Tejeda is about a ten minute walk away and has a number of decent restaurants, bars and a Spar supermarket. The drive down to the property along a winding concrete road is pretty straightforward and not really anything to be concerned about. Tejeda is a good base to visit the centre of Gran Canaria and there are many good walks in the local area. Catalina and her family are very nice, friendly and very helpful. Questions were answered quickly and efficiently, and directions to the property were accurate and detailed. We had an excellent week here and would have no hesitation in returning and staying here again.

Peaceful and secluded. Amazing views in a restful escape.

Stunning setting in the mountains with fabulous views from the terraces at Casa Catina beside Tejada. A lovely welcome from Catina herself showing us around her well appointed house. It had all we needed for our escape from busy life. Fabulous weather with the house remaining cool by day and cosy at night, but watch the mosquitoes! Breakfasts on the front patio looking out to Roque Nublo in the morning sun and barbecues on the back terrace as the evening sun sets on Roque Bentayga. A winding walk up to Tejeda for a great choice of eating places. Great cake shops in the village and the local Spar is perfectly adequate for other needs. Great walking in the hills around with paths marked out in the Rambling Roger book of walks in the house. Worth taking good walking shoes or boots and walking poles for the more adventurous circuits. The roads can be challenging to drive, but worth the effort to see a beautiful island from this great central location, especially if you want peace and seclusion away from the busy tourist beaches. We leave refreshed and rested and would certain return here for another escape at the end of winter.

Well-equipped, comfortable cottage with fabulous views

As previous reviewers have said, the photographs don't do the place justice. We really enjoyed being there. It had everything we needed, including ability to play our music over stereo system and great wi-fi. An electric radiator in the sitting room would be ideal for convenience. We had perfect weather in the daytime - not a cloud in the sky and in the 20s - but a little chilly at night (February). Radiators in all rooms bar the sitting room. The firewood, helpfully provided, gave us a great blaze one night but only by using most of the kindling to get the temperature high enough to burn the sap-filled logs). That's really a minor issue; the place is great. It's a long way down the zig-zag track (just keep on going!) but only 10-15 minutes walk into Tejeda. We ate at the Texeda brewery (twice) and the Casa de Caminero and thought they were great.

Wonderful place to stay

This is a great location and house itself is perfect if you like somewhere quiet. The views from the patio are stunning and the pictures don't really do it enough justice - you really have to see for yourself. It's a fairly short walk up to the town, but far enough out to feel secluded. The owner was really good at keeping in touch and met us at the house to explain how everything worked, you don't get that level of engagement from many.

A wonderfully relaxing holiday in the mountains surrounded by stunning scenery

The house has been lovingly restored by the family and they had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and special. We didn't want for anything but if we had I am sure Catalina would have been happy to help. The views from every window and door are stunning. The house is situated on the terracing inside an extinct volcano. The scenery is dominated by Roque Bentayga but you can also see the more famous Roque Nublo from the front of the house. There are some great places for walking and places to see. It was so lovely to sit on the terrace and look out on such an amazing landscape that we ended up staying in the mountains for the week walking and enjoying this very special place and didn't go down to the coast at all. The house is situated on terracing below the town of Tejeda so although we had no near neighbours we were not isolated. We could look over to the houses and farmed terraces further along. Tejeda is a beautiful mountain town and a stop off for tours during the day but is quiet in the evening. The house is accessed by a zig-zag road that is mainly made up but not tarmacked. When we first arrived we passed it not believing it could be the road we needed but Catalina and her husband met us at the top and led us down. We got up and down the road in a rental car without damage but decided against driving down at night! Instead most nights we took the steep walk up to Tejeda (about 10-15 minutes)and ate in the town. There are a dozen or so restaurants but no other nightlife. Everyone was friendly and several people in the cafes and restaurants speak English and German but it is useful to know even a little Spanish. Overall we had a wonderful and relaxing holiday. We loved the house and especially its situation - but it is not for those with young children or problems walking.

Sehr schönes Haus in toller Lage
