About this property
Intracoastal Waterfront House on Private island surrounded by National Parks
Longvue is an Old Florida house set on private Medicis island in the Intracoastal Waterway surrounded by the Guana/Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (73,000 acres) and Stokes Landing Conservation Preserve (300 acres). Private floating dock with tidal access to the IWC. Very private island with 6 residences. The 10 acre island is surrounded by rivers, marsh flats and fresh water ponds. Boat/Kayak to the National Reserve and walk the trails to S. Ponte Vedra Beach.
Longvue sits on over 1 acre with 330' of marsh frontage and open lawn on three sides. Open and bright 2,600 sf floor plan with vaulted ceilings and french doors leading to wrap-around brick Terraces. The property has a beautiful canopy of coastal live oaks, palms and magnolias and plenty of open yard on all sides. Manatee and Porpoise feed in the marsh creeks along with an amazing variety of birds and waterfowl. Beds are Queen, Twins and King at Master with most beds having trundles underneath (see photos for floor plan and bed Spec). Wood burning fire place in the River Room. New 60" flatscreen with commercial speed wifi. The Family Room has separate 1/2 bath and can be used as a 5th bedroom. The property is a great place for your dog (extra pet cleaning fee applies). We have just installed a new variable speed HVAC system with dehumidification as well as new well and septic pumps to eliminate issues during your stay. Also a new septic system/pumps/drain fields as well as new water well pumps and irrigation pumps. We have also installed (2025) a 4k whole house water purification system to address well water quality and scent. There is a new refrigerator and dishwasher (8/2020) as well as a new set of washer & dryer (7/2020). This is a family weekend River House so the furniture is not perfect but elegant, timeless and comfortable. There are no screens on the windows.
There is a new Publix approximately 1 mile north of Stokes Landing Rd. on US1 at Palencia.
The yard to Longvue is mostly to the east and south and has 330’ of marsh frontage so there is plenty of yard and space as the neighbors to the south are set far back and around the cul-du-sac. $150 additional cleaning fee will be requested after booking for guests with pets.
Amazing saltwater fishing on fly or light tackle with world class flood tide flat fishing in September thru December as well as duck hunting in season at the Guana Preserve. Extra Large Green Egg grill/smoker next to pre-civil war era sugar kettle / brick fire pit. Private Horse Farm 1/4 mile just off-island for horse back riding on the island. This is a natural Florida aquifer & well with a high treatment/filtration system to eliminate/reduce sulphur mineral aroma for those not used to Florida water. We have a regular well system cleaning service.

My wife, son, and I rented this property while visiting family in the area. The house is beautiful, well decorated, and comfortable. The views from inside and outside of the house are amazing. My brother stopped by and caught a redfish from the dock. We will definitely plan to stay again before long.
It’s not often that the results and better than you anticipated. That’s the case with Longvue. It was like home away from home. Very quiet location beautiful view of the marsh, and the house was so nice for the four of us. A great three weeks.
This was the second time our family stayed at this beautiful home. The house is truly beautiful, and the location is magical. The owners are also generous and responsive. We highly recommend the property.
Beautiful setting with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Comfortable furnishings with all that one would need. Joseph responded immediately to all our questions and needs.
We used this VRBO as a place of refuge after busy days touring nearby St. Augustine. We watched the tides come and go in the salt marsh and saw a variety of wildlife. The sunrise was amazing. Heavy rains kept us inside much of the time, but we lit up the back yard every night. This is a great property if you want to feel "at home".
Great experience. Home was very clean, artfully decorated, spacious and bright with a beautiful view. Perfect place to hang out in good weather and bad. Communication with owner was seamless and easy. I highly recommend this property.
We had the best time here- we paddle boarded, kayaked, and fished with the most amazing view. It was as so relaxing for the adults yet still kept all our children entertained with lots of fun AND off their electronics. It was such a beautiful place. Thank you so much for sharing your house for others to experience
Close to everything, but off the beaten path. A magical place!
What a beautiful home! It was so relaxing to sit out on the dock with our morning coffee and watch the birds fly by. It’s close to St. Augustine, the beaches, restaurants, and grocery stores, yet when you are here, you feel like you are a million miles away from it all.
Our very first evening here, we went to sit on the dock and watch my son fish. We noticed something chewing on the grass off the dock, and realized it was a manatee! It ended up swimming right past us, and got so close I was able to capture it on video. We unfortunately didn’t see it again (we looked EVERY night!), but what a warm welcome!
House is spacious and beautifully decorated. Beds were comfy and we all slept well. Neighbors are quiet. Hope to be back at some point In the near future! Thank you for renting your lovely home out to us, we had such a nice time :-)

good and bad
The cover photo of the property is clearly an older one Since it was taken there is a new build within a a few feet of the north side of the house. A massive marble deck was installed when we rented and the loud, jarring noise of tile
. cutting saws started at 8:30 am until 6:pm Next the chain saws for another 3 days of tree removal then the owner would get the leaf blower out just as we started to grill outdoors. It was disturbing and truly ruined the tranquil beauty of the conservation area. Inside the home was clean, nicely decorated and the beds were comfortable. A shower head had to be replaced in the master bath. Outside the big green egg grill was broken had to be repaired. Trash had to be cleaned up from what had clearly been a big bon fire party with previous tenants. a
Fantastic Thanksgiving week on what felt like a Nature Preserve! Quiet setting, gracious house, and nature’s constant performance. Everything was excellent! House exactly as shown: felt like walking into a book or onto a movie set. So unique. So private. Lit the outside lights and felt like a romantic party for two. In awe of the amazing SUNRISE, without even getting out of bed! The people who built the house must have slept on the site and marked the absolute best location for the sunrise. It was a perfect production every morning! Of course, all of the charm of St. Augustine was fewer than 10 miles away but we couldn’t find a good enough reason to leave the sanctuary of Longvue! We sat and watched the birds and sea creatures and kept time by the changing tides. Appreciated use of their canoe for a peaceful adventure. Our two dogs ran free, never tempted to leave the beautiful grounds. It was a marvelous respite!
Pictures are accurate, though difficult to really capture the grace and comfort. Tv room closes off by French doors, so quiet but not too sequestered. Upstairs bedrooms have the personality of an old time beach house, beds for 5. Downstairs bedroom ...like sleeping right outside in the trees.
Very Nice and helpful hosts. Neighbors seen only twice in their own big backyard: quiet, friendly and helpful.
Everything was wonderful, can’t wait to visit again!! Thank you for sharing your exceptional sanctuary!
This was our first time as a family renting a house on the intercoastal area around Ponte Vedra. We have always stayed in a Beach House directly on the beach. We wanted to try something different this year and it was wonderful. The house was in a beautiful location. View from the main living area was outstanding every day. 20 to 30 minute drive to the beach, where the private public beaches with no houses was wonderful. At the house, first time my 3 kids ever fished at the beach and it was a great added activity that created a lot of memories. The fishing was right off the back dock and was very good the four days we did it. Kids usually wanted to leave beach early to get back to fish as the high tide was getting close. Same distance to all of our favorite restaurants in the area as in previous years. Overall, great location, very peaceful and great family time.
Love this property! Second stay. Quiet, quiet, quiet…and much needed. The marsh view and wildlife is a perfect combo with morning coffee. Can’t wait until the next visit. Thanks!
What a lovely experience, in a gorgeous home. The house was super comfortable, well equipped and tastefully decorated in the style of the home. Although it felt like we were isolated anything needed was a short drive away. The morning sunrises over the marsh were breathtaking.
Our only downfall was that we arrived right after hurricane Nicole so the grounds were still very saturated and muddy.
Very comfortable and nice home, stocked with pretty much everything you need. The view and setting are exceptional and the house has a lot of character and charm we would stay here again!
The owner was a pleasure to communicate with and the property was gorgeous. It was chilly most evenings, so the outdoor fire pit came in handy. The big green egg smoker was utilized most days as well. Overall a gorgeous and peaceful property and I look forward to returning. Thanks to the owner(s) for sharing your property!

Peaceful retreat!
Pros:
-Beautiful, house and picturesque property!
-Comfortable, cosy setting and house clean and beautifully decorated with all comforts of home
-Appreciated being able to have our dog stay with us
Cons-
-There were major issues with entry door and back door didn’t lock well.
-Upstairs shower head issue rendered bathroom
for showering useless.
-Previous guests did not clean up the yard well after their dogs.
With cons addressed would definitely visit again!
This house is true to it's listing - this house was warm, inviting and peaceful, with a beautiful view. There is a firepit and a green egg grill. We enjoyed relaxing, visiting and cooking with family. We had a wonderful time and I am sure that we will come and stay again. It is about 15 minutes North of historic St. Augustine, easy to get to and there is a Publix nearby.

This is our second stay and it was perfect. The location is beautiful and private with quiet neighbors. The house was clean, comfortable, well stocked and so charming. Extremely enjoyable experience.
This vacation felt like we were staying in a home right out of the pages of a Southern Living Magazine! The decor was beautiful and welcoming. The stone floors were my favorite. And the location of this estate was magnificent! We woke up to stunning sunrises reflecting in the the marsh inlets. And in the distance we could see yachts traveling down the ICW. The quite starlit nights were perfect for our campfires and roasting marshmallows. We only wish we had more time to stay.

Stunning views and property off the beaten path! You feel far away but are close to everything you need: Publix, restaurants, and downtown St. Augustine all close by.
If you enjoy the marsh tides, birdlife, and fishing, you will enjoy this place. Our family of 4 plus 2 small dogs loved their weekend getaway. Thanks Joe!

About the host
Hosted by Joseph S. Cronk
We are a family of 6 who have lived on Medicis Island since 2003 when we were the only residents. We have one in college, one at home and live between St Augustine and Avondale, Florida
Why they chose this property
Fishing, relaxing, a day on the boat to St. Augustine and the beaches. We have enjoyed Longvue cottage for over 20 years and it will always be a part of our extended family. Longvue cottage was built by the daughter and Dr. husband of the original owners of Diego island who purchased the property in 1945 after participating in the engineering and construction of the original IWC. He built the original cottage on the north side of the island which remains a family retreat.
What makes this property unique
330' of marsh river frontage on over 1 acre. Open yard space on both sides offers privacy with a live oak canopy for shade. The island is surrounded by national & state parks and the views are east to Guana State Park and South to Stokes State Park so only two houses in sight in 360 degrees. Ocean breezes over the water keep the evening cool and help with bugs in the summer.
