About this property
El Zurdo, Restored Watermill in Beautiful Location with Mountain Views
The watermill, El Zurdo, a restored 17th century watermill is situated in an outstanding valley in the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park Between Grazalema, a picturesque and lively white village (approx 6km) and the dramatic historic town of Ronda (approx 15km) . Lefty, meaning left handed, was the only 1 of the 13 mills in the valley Which turned anti-clockwise. It sleeps up to 6 people and is in a secluded rural position at an altitude of 600m private and separate from the nearest neighbor El Pastor
The mill has-been sensitively restored and Retains ITS MOST of the original features: such as the mill race, grinding wheels and crane gantry. It is simply furnished in a rustic fashion and was featured in the Spanish magazine 'Home Field'. Lefty is partially built into the cliffs of a small gorge and has natural plunge pool and waterfall Which is perfect for swimming in on hot summer days
The accommodation is simple and typical of farmhouses and mills in the area; not much has changed from 50 years ago When They Were worked and lived in. We Have installed what we Consider to be the basic necessities (electricity, running water, flushing loos, showers, refrigerators, cookers) but tried not to let Have them spoil the very special Spanish character.
To reach the mill, you first follow a short bumpy track into the parking area. You then cross the river over a small bridge and walk down the path to the house.
You enter the sitting / dining room and two steps up take you into the mill room you will find the Where grinding wheels and crane gantry. The Latter was used to replace worn stones, then a Which Were used for flooring.
The kitchen is a step down, Which is Equipped with refrigerator, cooker, breakfast table, worktops and double sink
There are two bedrooms upstairs, each container containing a double and a single bed. The shower room and toilet are outside across the patio. From there a path to the river Takes You (Which powered the mill), Where have created a natural waterfall plunge pool.
This mountainous area is perfect for walking, cycling and bird watching. Scops Owls, Golden Oriels, Griffon Vultures, Black Kites and Bee Eaters Have All been spotted close to the mill. Guided walks are Popular with visitors.
