STUNNING Cabin with Breathtaking Views and Plenty of Room for the Whole Family
Welcome to the Chocolate Moose! The cabin that offers the very best of the Colorado mountains. This luxurious 4,000 square foot, 3 story custom crafted log cabin features four bedrooms and three and a half baths, and offers everything you need for the perfect mountain retreat. This spacious home is tucked away in the aspens with breathtaking views of South Park and Silverheels Mountain.
Hit the trails by simply opening the backdoor. The many trails maintained by the community connect up with the National Forest to the south providing hours upon hours of exploration. If you want to continue your adventures a bit further from home, you can catch the Colorado Trail on top of Kenosha pass about 30 miles to the north, or bag your first 14er by climbing Mount Sherman just a few miles up the road.
Enjoy the private stocked fishing ponds within the community (no Colorado license needed - just grab the pass from in the kitchen) or grab a license and venture out to explore all of the amazing fishing destinations in the area (http://285mountainguide.com/guide/activities/fishing.html). The community also offers a tennis and basketball court if a friendly rivalry needs to be decided on the court.
If 4-wheeling is more your speed, the cabin is just 10 minutes from Breakneck Pass (https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/231-breakneck-pass) and over a dozen other rated trails are located within an hour's drive.
Just 10 miles up the road you'll find the adorable and inviting mountain town of Fairplay. Home of the South Park City Museum, a perfectly restored mining town that lets you walk through over 40 authentic buildings from the time period. It is also the inspiration for the popular cartoon series, South Park. Drive through and spot all of Kenny's favorite hangouts. In addition to the museum you'll find restaurants, shopping, the new South Park Recreation Center, and local art on display. Spend the day strolling, snacking and don't forget to stop by South Park Brewery for a pint of craft beer and live music on your way back home.
The cabin is located 32 miles from Breckenridge Ski Resort, so if you're in search of a Colorado blue bird day you're less than an hour (depending on weather) from speeding down over 180 trails. In the summer, the resort transforms into a family fun zone, offering alpine slides, ropes courses and mining for adults and children of all ages!
The Fairplay Nordic center is just a few miles away with maintained cross country trails if scenic views and a quiet picnic is more your speed. You can also find sleds in the garage and opportunities to use them abound!
36 miles to the south of the cabin you'll find Buena Vista, CO. (Pronounced B-yoo-na Vista - if you want to sound like a local). They offer guided whitewater rafting, an outdoor adventure park, local breweries, festivals, hot springs, dining, and access to more of the famed Colorado 14'ers (14,000 foot peaks) than any other town in CO. It's an outdoor playland!
With so much to do we most definitely can't cover it all here so please reach out with any questions. We'll do our best to assist.

The property was great and the hosts were very timely in their responses. Enjoyed the area greatly and the kids loved the fishing ponds. Definitely worth taking a look at booking this house!
Spent four nights at this lovely cabin. Refreshing cool environment to escape warm summer weather up high in the Colorado mountains. Incredibly beautiful area with a few chances to see wildlife (if lucky you may get to spot some moose nearby). Cabin was well-kept, and plenty of space for activities.
Great week in a beautiful cabin. Beds were very comfortable and hot tub was a blessing after horseback riding and hiking. Large cabin allowed for everyone to have their space. Would recommend staying here.
We stayed here over Christmas and it was the most relaxing enjoyable stay. The cabin was very homie! We saw deer in the backyard and there were a CRAZY amount of elk daily in the fields going in and out of the cabin. The fishing was great also!
The location is FANTASTIC! The cabin is beautiful with everything you could possibly need for a wonderful stay. Perfect for groups large families. The hot tub is to die for! Everything is as described and location very easy to find.
Amazing cabin and location. Accommodations were perfect for 4 adult couples. We enjoyed morning coffee on the deck as well as some meals. We were greeted by the real chocolate moose on arrival and again for breakfast - one of the high lights of our trip! Dining room table was great for meals and card games. Thank you for sharing your wonderful place. We highly recommend it and hope to return.
Family of five skiing Monarch, Copper and A-Basin. Drive was about 70 minutes to each. Great atmosphere in cabin and plenty of room for all. Views from the balcony are incredible. Well stocked on kitchen and bath items.
The cabin was wonderful! We had plenty of room to spread out and also to come together! Being snowed on while in the hot tub was a true Colorado experience! The bonus was how nice the hiking trails were to the home and how much fun the kids had sliding down the driveway. Their own personal ski slope!! Thanks to our hosts we will be back!
The chocolate moose is absolutely perfect. We had such a wonderful long weekend. We traveled with two families including 6 kids ages 1-8 we had every single thing we needed or could possibly want. We had a small hiccup with the hot tub but Cassie was quick to fix the issue and was so responsive and nice. The house is beautiful and so well cared for. We can’t wait to come back.
Quote from our teens who have never seen snow, “10 out of 10 Best Vacation!!” We went in mid March looking for snow, and it was everything we hoped it would be. We went sledding, had snowball fights, built a snowman, drank hot chocolate by the fire, and relaxed in the hot tub. FairPlay, the local town was really cool, the breweries and coffee shops are a must. The host was quick to respond and was very helpful. We would definitely come back.

You were fantastic guests and we can't thank you all enough for the care you gave our cabin. If you'd like to return we'd love to give you a discount or a free night for being a reminder of why we share our home! Wishing you well!
Wonderful home with fantastic location and views. Only downside would be that many window screens need to be replaced. The holes or poor fit allowed moth and other flying insects in the house.
I host women's wellness retreats and I am always on the look out for the perfect cabin and location! This fit the bill! It was secluded and had everything I wanted. We relaxed in the hot tub, everyone was super cozy in the bedrooms, we did Yoga in the lower level with plenty of room, cooked all the meals for 8 of us in the fully stocked kitchen and took gorgeous walks right from the property.
The only negative was the fact that we had to take our own trash from our stay to a compactor 6 min away from the home. When you are on vacation and pay a good amount, the last thing you should have to do is grab all of the trash and disperse of it. It should have been included in the stay.
Other than that I highly recommend it!
The property is at just over 10K feet...be prepared for a lack of oxygen. We did have someone in our group that has asthma and a can of oxygen assisted tremendously.
We seen moose right outside of the front door, deer around the property, and enjoyed fishing at the stocked ponds. The property has amazing views and lots of deck space for everyone. The board games are totally stocked! It was fun seeing the kids off the technology and just enjoying everyone's company. The hot tub was amazing to relax in. Storm watchers will be amazed to see how quickly storms come and go simply from the living room couch. Don't be concerned about the garbage situation - there are garbage cans down in the garage to hold it until you are ready to get rid of it. We just dropped it off on our way out each time. The property is simply AMAZING and would highly recommend if you are looking for a relaxing get away.
We stayed during some of the coldest weather of the season (in the negatives, with colder than -20F windchill) but the place felt nice and warm between the radiant floor heating and the central wood burning stove/fireplace with a blower on it.The hot tub is conveniently located very close to one of the entrances (of which there are plenty for ease of access and privacy), so even though it was terribly cold, it was quick and easy to get in and out of the hot tub. The kitchen got some great use and they have it equipped with useful appliances, cooking utensils and pots/pans, and dishware. There is also a good supply of coffee, and a large selection of spices! The kitchen is easily big enough for 3 or more chefs!Even with 5-6 people, the place felt very spacious and open. It feels even better than it looks in the picture. The beds were comfortable, though the sheets are not very breathable, so if you get hot easily, be ready to sweat! (or bring your own if the owner allows?)There was some minor maintenance/cleanliness issues that will need to be addressed at some point. Cobwebs in hard to reach places, shower stall caulking, mortar cracking, but this is me being nit-picky... had to look hard to find them. Overall it felt nicely clean and well maintained!
We all loved this place! Communication with the property owner was extremely simple. Everything was exactly as it was described. Very well furnished and very comfortable for our entire family. The kitchen was large enough that we could all be in it to cook and clean. The dining room table was perfect for family meals and family game time. While it sits in a neighborhood, your neighbors are far enough away that you feel isolated/away from it all. Very quiet and relaxing. The decor in the house was beautiful and adorable. It was decorated exactly the way I would probably decorate my own cabin if I had one. Since I don’t, it was great to have this place! Chocolate Moose Lodge is definitely going to be one of our favorite spots for vacation time!
We loved the cabin. Great place for our teen and preschooler. Plenty of room for the in-laws. Close to Fairplay shops if you need anything. Nice hiking trails. Saw a moose near the ponds! Had everything we needed. Entire family loved it. Would love to stay again.
We had a great time at this property, very clean, owners were super responsive. It fit our family of 12 very well. If you are looking to just hang out at the house this location is for you. South Park/FairPlay were minutes away. Great for a bite or a little shopping. If your looking to go to other spots, Breckinridge etc , I would stay somewhere a little closer. We are a family that likes to do it all so this location was a little out of the way for us. Overall great house! Also the fishing pond was awesome for the kids! They spent hours there!!

About the host
Hosted by Cassie Christensen
I'm a Colorado native, he's a New England transplant who fell in love with the state during his childhood road trips. The cabin was purchased in fulfillment of a dream come true that was inspired by our own engagement road trip. And as much we wish we could live there year round, work pulls us back to the city so we decided to share the cabin with others in search of the same escape we found and hopefully inspire other dreamer's pursuits.
Why they chose this property
From the twisted pine railings to the expansive views. Our favorite moose and bear mascots that assist in creating the cabin theme. The open floor plan and the easy access to the outdoors. The massive deck that wraps around 3/4 of the house. The huge wood-burning stove that makes the perfect holiday backdrop. The hot tub, the games and most of all...the memories. This is our favorite place on the planet and we so enjoy sharing it with others looking to enjoy the magic of the Colorado mountains.
What makes this property unique
Bearnard the bear and Moosille the moose, our local mascots, will be the theme of your visit and you may just see their real life relatives stroll up the driveway, depending on the season.
