Small cottage with lots of nice touches. Tasteful, high quality decor and fittings. Comfortable double bed and armchairrs etc. Well appointed small separate kitchen. Cafe/sandwich shop opposite and the beach is about 15-20 minutes' walk. We had a lovely stay.

Great location, let down by cleanliness
Pros - great location, near pub and nice coffee shop. Short walk to beach.
Cons - not very clean on arrival, mould problem in bathroom, strong damp smell throughout property. Had planned to cook but found mould growing on wooden spoons and cobwebs on the pans - so ate out instead!
Having read through the comments in the visitor book we could see these issues had been raised several times, so it’s disappointing they haven’t been addressed. Would not stay again.

Disappointed!
Not cleaned adequately, even the artificial flowers were dusty! It was damp, musty, dark & gloomy. Dishwasher mouldy, with rotten food. A bad smell on entering. Agents not helpful! Kitchen isn’t equipped with useable utensils.

Lovely child friendly compact cottage with everything you need and close to the beach
We stayed at Springwell cottage for 4 nights and it was perfect for us. The cottage is super close to everything you need - a newsagent, a butcher, a great cafe, the beach and lovely walks. There are small supermarkets nearby in East Wittering a five-minute drive away. It sits right on the old village green both at the front and the back so is set back from the road. There is no enclosed garden, just a small paved area, but it doesn't really matter because the green is right there and the beach is so close. Kitchen is galley style and had everything we needed. The washing machine is very small though so you wouldn't want to be doing any big washes there. A really thoughtful addition to the lovely interiors is the built-in wooden stair gates at the top and the bottom of the stairs. My youngest is disabled and these were an absolute godsend in terms of allowing us to relax. The cottage is decorated in a clean, traditional style with a bit of a modern twist and is free of unnecessary clutter. It was very clean and the heating all worked brilliantly. The owner had provided a number of games for us to play. West Wittering beach is a 5-10 minute walk away and is lovely. If you head out perpendicular to the road to the beach there are walks to the coastline and northwards up to Chichester harbour. Overall, we loved it and will definitely be going back.

Great Location and nicely appointed
The place was in a great location and clean. Unfortunately, we were expecting both a working dishwasher and washing machine, but these were both in disrepair when we arrived. We have two young boys so this was a requirement for our stay. After phoning the 2nd day they were quick to replace the dishwasher which was helpful but still left without a working washing machine.
The location is beautiful with close walks to the beach and walkways along the water so that helped keep us in a cheerful mood.
The only other comment was the lack of toilet paper for our family. We were told we only get a roll and 1/2 as a starter. This doesn’t seem right as we are travelling and surely can’t be expected to purchase a whole bundle of toilet paper for 3 days? This is obviously not right and no other place we have stayed in Europe or North America would do do this.
Other than these couple of these important feedback items, we really enjoyed our stay.
Thanks for reading.

Summer Stay at Springwell
Just back from a week at Springwell Cottage. A cosy, well furnished cottage for 4 people and a dog. Great location for West Wittering beach and other walks or bike rides. The cottage was clean and well decorated. Shower and toilet were separate which was good. Bedrooms perfect size for a weeks stay. Neighbours helpful as there is very limited outside space for hanging clothes, fortunately weather was amazing.

Disappointing and embarrassing
Cottage was very disappointing. It was much smaller than expected, no prior warning that toilet was downstairs (practically outside) with no sink for hand washing. Tiny shower room with nowhere to put anything. Shower screen filthy so felt unable to use shower. Mould all over tiles. Stairs very steep and dark. Double bedroom room dark and horrible bedding covered in some sort of black stretch material including bottom sheet and pillowcases that did not close on ends, mismatch dark grey towels, lots of mould on walls and ceiling, shutters very dusty, door would not move to close. Smaller room mould on ceiling, dust on shutters, only one out of three bulbs working. Kitchen appliances had been wiped over with a smeary cloth, bathroom door catching on kitchen worktop causing a loud screeching noise (not acceptable especially during the night). Toilet cistern handle hanging off which we had to repair. I have many photographs to substantiate these problems. AND FOR ALL THIS I WAS CHARGED IN EXCESS OF £1000 for 2 NIGHTS. under the circumstances I think some compensation is in order as it was very embarrassing for me as I had taken a friend away for a special occasion. I look forward to hearing your comments asap

Lovely but needs improvement
We had a lovely time but the cottage needs some updating as lots of mould in places, needs new fridge and new dishwasher as doesn't clean anything and the sofas aren't very relaxing. Wonderful location for the beach and enjoyed the cafe over the road.
Compact accommodation in the centre of the village but well-equipped and an excellent location for a beach holiday,

Amazing location but with a couple of small drawbacks......
On arrival we were very pleased with our choice and overall had a very pleasant week - it's a superb location, close to the beach and all the other amenities and helpful that it's dog friendly.
Due to the inclement weather we spent a lot of time indoors and the sofa & armchairs are pretty uncomfortable.
There's also a poorly fitting duvet & sheet on the main bed that could be improved.
It's a dark property indoors without much natural light, again if the weather had been better that wouldn't have mattered so much.
It had a well stocked kitchen which we put to good use.
We would return but probably for no longer than a weekend.
When we arrived the sofa and armchairs were all Sandy. The dining table was dirty. There was a dirty pair of. bikini bottoms on the floor under a radiator in the lounge diner. Lumps of fluff were all blowing across the bedroom floor when we opened the door. It was a disgrace. COVID clean?I don’t think so

Lovely location, a bit expensive
The cottage was clean and nicely furnished, you have everything you need to prepare food. There were couple of board games available too.
The one thing I didn't like were the pillows - definitely the most uncomfortable pillows I have ever slept on.

Springwell cottage
Excellent location in heart of village, 10-minute walk from beach. Cottage spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished throughout. Also impressed by booking agency's Covid security, implementing additional cleansing, QR code check-in for all guests on NHS track and trace app on arrival and guest health checks pre and post stay. After shielding for a year, I felt very safe. Highly recommended.

Wonderful weekend
The cottage is beautiful and in such a great location with the beach ten minutes walk away. There is a pub and cafe right across the road and a local shop and butcher a couple of mins walk.
The cottage is equipped with high quality fixtures and fittings and the mattress has been replaced.

Springwell Cottage
The cottage is relatively small in size with steep staircase up to the bedrooms. The bathroom and toilet are downstairs so the staircase needs to be navigated if the toilet is needed during the night. Because of the staircase I would not recommend it as a place to stay for anyone who was frail or unsteady on the feet.
On the plus side its very well located for Wittering Beach, Salterns Way Walk, pub and local shops and restaurants (subject to covid restrictions) and by car to Chichester with local bus route picking up almost from the door.
Inside it has a well equipped kitchen, good shower and a nice gas imitation coal burner which is very warm for the living room when it gets going. The cottage has a smart tv that allows you to use your own Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts and a selection of games.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Springwell is very old little parish cottage so it does have it quirks but we hope it adds to its charm. We too do not recommend this cottage for people with mobility restrictions and do not advertise it as so for this reason. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and the fantastic location so close to west wittering beach. No need to book when you are so close!
We loved our short stay at this cottage. It's small but cosy. It's only a short walk and you're at the beach. We will definitely come back soon!

Autumn break in Springwell.
We enjoyed our stay in this excellent location. The surrounding area is lovely and lots of places to visit. We visited Portsmouth historic Docklands, Spinnaker Tower and shops. My wife loved Fishbourne Roman Palace and we all loved the coastline particularly Chichester Harbour area.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We hope to see you at the cottage again soon.
Although rather small the cottage was very clean and generally comfortable. The exception was the matress for the double bedroom. This was uncomfortable and should really be replaced as it does let down the cottage. The location of the cottage was excellent with the beach very close by. Lots of interesting places within easy driving distance. Overall, a very enjoyable week.

Great location, but tiny
Cottage is right in the very centre of village and an easy 10 min walk to the beach. Is very small however, and lacks comfy sofas for evening TV watching. Bathroom & toilet are downstairs - wasn't an issue for us, but may be for some. We had no WIFI during our 5 day stay and owner made zero attempt to contact us. Given we needed to work for some of the time, it made things very difficult. His lack of communication, explanation or attempt to rectify was extremely frustrating. Will not be staying in his property again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We do feel that Springwell Cottage is photographed well and does show the size of the cottage. It is an old cottage and the host has done his best to fit everything cleverly into the space he has, we find most people like the quaint style of the historic cottage but we understand it is not for everybody. This is also the reason for the downstairs bathroom.
We have passed on your feedback about the sofas to the host for future consideration.
Unfortunately we do not guarantee wifi speed/availability at any of our properties as we just cannot control extraneous circumstance. We were in contact with you for the first three days of your booking and we did explain the issue was widespread for the host. He also runs a local campsite which also had it's wifi down. This has been fixed since your stay but i sincerely apologise we couldn't get it running before you left.

Post lockdown break
The cottage was very well located. It’s a very quiet area, particularly during the week, but on hot days or on the weekends it gets busy due to its proximity to the beach. I’m not sure if the place had been freshly cleaned before our arrival or it was done before lockdown because it was dusty. This is probably an isolated incident. The cottage very very very small, and really only suitable for sleeping and a small amount of cooking, it has very dark small and uncomfortable lounge and eating areas and no private garden. It was great to get away and the cottage was perfectly fine, but I wouldn’t choose it again primarily due to the lack of lounge/relaxing areas.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are so glad you enjoyed being so close to West Wittering beach. We're sorry to hear you felt the living room was uncomfortable. The cottage is an old period property so i know the small windows do make the light coming through more difficult but the host has tried his best to make it is open as possible whilst retaining the cottage character. We do feel the photographs represent the cottage well though and hope it was as expected. The cottage had been fully cleaned to covid safe standard throughout. If you had reported any dust to us at the time we would have re-sent the cleaners over right away. Unfortunately where it has been hot and your are so close to the beach there the dust from the road down to wittering does carry. We will make sure extra special attention is paid before the next guest.
Pretty cosy cottage in a great location for the beach/walks and the village. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay for 3 nights with our son. The cottage is right on the village green with the cafe opposite and pub round the corner and a 10-15 min walk to the beach. The house is very cosy and worked well. Only niggles to were the brocken kitchen bin and the master bed could do with a new mattress.
Sauberes, kleines Haus voll ausgestattet. Gute Lage, 15 min zu Fuß zum Strand. Wlan etwas langsam

Lovely small cottage in an excellent location
Lovely small cottage done up to a very high standard in a central location. Well equipped but small kitchen, lovely fittings throughout. Short walk to the West Wittering beach, saving on the daily parking charge!
(Very) steep stairs and the fact that the toilet is downstairs make this unsuitable for very young children or those who are not 100% mobile.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a reply. It is a very old little cottage so unfortunately the stairs are quite steep. There is a hand rail and we always make sure the hall is well lit. We hope the cute stairs add to the charm :-)
So pleased you made use of West Wittering and the close proximity! Perfect way to avoid the summer queues.
