About this property

Spinneyloch. Unpretentious, Family Friendly, Classic 60's Cottage, On One Level

Located on Point Manchee in Bala, Muskoka, Spinneyloch is an easy 2 hour drive from Toronto. As soon as you arrive, you'll have an AHA moment that won't leave you. The cottage is nestled in the trees with lake frontage, glorious views and sun all day long. The spacious outside deck, where you'll enjoy your morning coffee, evening cocktail and spectacular sunsets, cascades down to an equally wonderful dock on Beach Bay. Easy access to shallow water is ideal for all water activities, especially swimming to "Gossip Rock". Main kitchen/dining/living area is open concept with pine paneling and Muskoka granite wood burning fireplace. Skylights and large picture windows keep the cottage bright all day. Lakeside, master bedroom has queen bed and personal sink and vanity. The large second bedroom has bunk beds. Outside the windows perches a giant granite erratic we call Robber's Rock. (Wonderful story for Geology and History Buffs!) The Girl's Bunkie has a queen bed and it's own 3 piece bathroom and deck for reading and relaxing, ideal for in-laws or friends. The Boy's Bunkie on the eastern shorefront has power but no plumbing, but can be used with permission for extra sleepovers. And next to it, the boathouse dock offers a quiet morning retreat for early risers. The entire property overall has a great getaway feeling. Boat and canoe rentals available in Bala. Respect your Neighboring Cottagers noise policy in effect after 10 pm. Internet, TV, No smoking, No fireworks. Well behaved pets with conscientious owners considered.

About the host

Hosted by Susan Manchee

I've just recently inherited the cottage. I live in Colorado and summer in British Columbia but my Ontario roots are in Muskoka. My goal is to steward Spinneyloch through this period of transition by offering it to individuals and families who will appreciate discovering the joys of holidaying in Muskoka.

Why they chose this property

Point Manchee has been a family property since the early 1900's. It was divided into four parcels in the 1950's and my father built this cottage in 1962. My father loved his English heritage and called this property Spinneyloch (a grove of trees and lake) We spent all of our summers here, swimming, canoeing, sailing, and just relaxing with our cousins and many dear friends who have shared this special place with us for decades. There are many regatta trophies lining the shelves, a tribute to the spirit of the Manchee family over the years.

What makes this property unique

The sound of train whistles from Bala Park Island, paddling across the Bay on a still morning, loons calling, the soft lapping of waves , wind in the pines, these are all here to stimulate your senses and nourish and refresh your soul.
