About Glenn McBride
Yep.. that's a tiny Red Poison Dart Frog on my hand. They are an endangered species, and even after 20 years of living in this area of Lake Arenal, I am still amazed and thankful for the beauty and nature that surround me. Every day is an adventure and to be able to share this slice of Paradise with our guests is more than anyone could hope for in their life... and I am very thankful for this opportunity. I am from Santa Fe, New Mexico. My 1st visit to Costa Rica and Nuevo Arenal was back in 1976... a long time ago. I've seen many changes since then and the Lake Arenal/Volcano Arenal region is now one of the most popular and visited areas in of all of Costa Rica . I built Villa Encantada in 1996 and have been renting it ever since, hosting many thousands of guests over the last 20 years. It's been an rewarding evolution and now my principal efforts go into making sure that our guests have the best vacation of their lives. I live here at Nuevo Arenal full time with my family, having built a 2nd home nearby as Villa Encantada is rented more often than not (Gracias a Dios!). By being here in the area full time, I am able to welcome guests to the villa and help them get the most out of their time at the villa and the area... and continue my 'work in progress' of 20 years in making Villa Encantada a DESTINATION, rather than just a place to sleep. You'll find 11 Virtual Tours of the villa interior and 40 Acre Nature Preserve/ Botanical Garden Estate in our photo section or cut/paste this URL to your browser ... On this VRBO site you'll find the maximum photos allowed (30) and (130) 5 Star Guest Reviews. In other words, you know what to expect when you spend time with us ~~ no unwelcome surprises. Our goal is to make your special vacation to Costa Rica and Villa Encantada memorable and hassle free. Thanks for allowing us to be of service to you, your family and/or group. Your Host, Glenn McBride
Glenn McBride purchased this Estate in 1995
Why Glenn McBride chose Nuevo Arenal
Our 40 acre Nature Preserve Estate at Villa Encantada is the only property with Lake Arenal access and Pristine Primary Rainforest with our own Aquifer Springs and too many waterfalls to count. Exquisite Nature surrounds you and you really will think 'I've died and gone to Heaven'. I can't improve Nature, but after 20 years, I've learned how to tweek it to make it to make it more accessible to our guests of all ages by building miles of manicured hiking trails and waterfalls that you can sit under and actually get an incredible massage that will be a very sweet memory that you'll always have to cherish. The manicured gardens and Golf Course are still a work in progress and now I look for plants that are unusual and hard to find to share with our guests. Our new swimming pool and 100 Waterslide have been a great success with Rave Reviews and have been met with enthusiastic smiles all around. Next... on my Bucket List ... build a Butterfly Garden area and Orchid Garden, and install a micro-hydroelectric plant. For me... it's so rewarding, and I love sharing this life's work with wonderful guests from around the world. Muchas Gracias!

Paradise Found! Pura Vida!
Wow! What's not to love at Villa Encantada?! Our group of 8 adults and 4 kids had a fantastic stay! There are so many highlights and this special property has so much to offer. The grounds are IMMACULATE. We felt like we had a whole resort with botanical gardens to ourselves. The hiking trails are VERY WELL maintained and were enjoyed by my 75 year old aunt and uncle and our young kids! Everyday we discovered new flowers and plants in bloom. We also saw different types of birds and wildlife (Birds: Heron, Jays, Kingfisher, Parrots, Toucans, etc., Animals/Insects: Butterflies, Dart Frog, Howler Monkeys, Moths, Toads, etc.). We also loved the golf course and waterslide! The waterslide is FAST and so much FUN! The house has many places to sit and enjoy nature. You can hang poolside, or enjoy a picnic in the middle of the pond. There is a covered patio, a sundeck, and an upper balcony! The home was comfortable and well stocked! The kitchen was well equipped, which allowed us to cook up a storm and enjoy dinner at the Villa.
Last but not least, we can't say enough about our host Glenn! He went above and beyond to ensure we had a lovely stay. He made several tour recommendations and helped us book excursions. He suggested we go to Tabacon as opposed to another hotspring...BOY are we glad we listened to him! We LOVED Tabacon and it was a hit with the adults and kids. Thank you Glenn! We appreciate all your help and had a wonderful trip!
*A few other amenities/features we enjoyed:
The gardener, David, who pointed out insects and wildlife. He also took the kayaks down to the lake for us.
The house cleaners, who refreshed our rooms and linens.
Favorite Activity: Tabacon
Favorite Restaurant: Moya's Place
One thing to consider: If you are booking 3-4 tours in the La Fortuna area, you may want to stay a night or two in La Fortuna/Arenal, then come to Glenn's so you can (stay put) and enjoy all the Villa has to offer!
It is a rare time in your life that you stay at a property like this. The house and the grounds are stunning and there are endless things to do without going anywhere. We enjoyed the many walking trails, the waterfall, the golf and above all, the waterslide. Glenn was a fabulous host and checked in with us frequently to see if there was anything we needed. He even arranged some tours for us in advance. The villa is a short drive to the town of Arenal for groceries and restaurants. All the ecotour activities are just at the end of the lake. We were very sad to leave but took many wonderful memories home with us..
Encantada means enchanting in Spanish and how it perfectly describes our experience! Our group of 8 were in awe at how beautiful this property is. The whole property is a rainforest in itself. We had daily visits from the peacocks, woke up listening to howler monkeys in the trees. We loved the pond where we had our morning coffee and the waterfall was so magical. The cleaning service was great, took care of the place really well. You can tell how passionate Glenn is about his property from the way it has been kept. Glenn is so friendly and easy to communicate with. He was so helpful during our stay, helped us book couple of excursions very last minute. Also very quick to respond to messages. I highly recommend this property!
We loved the house and property ! The landscaping was amazing so much wildlife on the property. We spent a lot of time on the property enjoying all of the amenities. The owner was very helpful and always available if we needed anything , we will definitely be back , more than we expected.
Villa Encantada is beautiful. We spent two full days enjoying the estate, watching birds, monkeys & more. Glenn and co. are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend, especially for golf lovers, and for travelers with small kids. The kids say the highlight of their trip was the villa waterside which kept them entertained for hours.
Thank you VERY much for your 5 Star Review. It was a pleasure hosting your family of 9 persons, including your (4) children of 6,7,8 & 9 yrs old. That the kids had so much fun is very rewarding for us and while they spent hours enjoying the waterslide and Kayaks and fishing, many of you got the chance to play golf on our private par 3 , 5 greens (9 hole) golf course. Your 4 night visit flew by w/ 2 days on site and 2 days exploring the areas many activities. I'm so glad that you have Special Memories of your time at Villa Encantada and we look forward to hosting your family again as soon as time allows.
