There is public transit both from the airports to La Fortuna and from La Fortuna to El Castillo and Villa Millon and various activities. Please call us for more information on the alternative transportation options.

TRAVEL DIRECTONS:
From San Jose, take the Panamerican Highway to San Ramon, exit when you see the sign directing you to San Ramon and drive through the town of San Ramon following the signs of the Arenal volcano route. You will go through Bajo Rodriguez, La Tigra, Chachauga and then finally to La Fortuna. We suggest that you use a GPS mapping and routing system. Also the WAZE App for your cell phone works very well. When you pick up your car, enter La Fortuna and select the police station as your destination in your GPS router. Go west out of La Fortuna entering El Castillo as your destination in your GPS router. Upon arriving in El Castillo turn left through the village proper and continue up the hill approximately 1km. There are two stone pillars at the end of the drive holding a gate to the property on the right.

DIRECTIONS TO EL CASTILLO FROM LA FORTUNA:

When you get to La Fortuna go west through the town and pass Tabacon on your right, then go a few more miles (about 4) until you see a tiny little police station on your right..you will take a left there onto a dirt road. Go 3 or 4 miles until you get to an intersection (T) where you must take a left or right. You will see a lot of signs directing you to different places in El Castillo. You will take a left. Go another few miles until you go over a small bridge and take your next right...at more signs. Keep going straight. You will pass the Sky Trek and continue to follow the road for a few miles, keep driving until you go over another small bridge. The first left after this bridge is the entrance to our village. Go through the village proper and then up the hill and you will pass the Serpentarium, then the Butterfly Conservatory (the house is approximately 600 meters from here)..continue going up and you will see Essence Arenal on the right. You will pass two streets on your right and then your house is the 6th house on the right. There are two stone pillars at the end of the drive holding a gate to the property. Please call us when you arrive in La Fortuna and either myself or our caretaker will meet you there. If for some reason we miss each other there will be a key in a combination lockbox.

Wonderful home in a wonderful area
We stayed here for about a week with our two sons (8 and 11). It was perfect. The views were amazing, with a beautiful horse across the way that we watched daily. The house was perfect for a family of four and the village was very welcoming. It was nice to be outside of the hustle of la fortuna and enjoy the quiet away from the town. The only recommendation I would have is to ensure the supplies for the guests are adequate - such as having enough hand soap and dish soap. But all in all it was perfect and we were so sad to leave. Ericka, the concierge for the property was very sweet, bringing us fresh fruit the day after we arrived and helping set up several tours. Highly recommend!

Perfect Spot to truly experience Costa Rica
The house was off the beaten path and everything we were looking for- proximity to great hiking, Arenal, and bird watching- we even saw a Toucan early our first morning. There isn’t a lot of privacy for two of the 3 bedrooms and one of the bathrooms, but the beds were comfortable and the property provided what we needed.

I am an accountant and live in Colorado. My favorite places to travel are Costa Rica - beautifully country and love the people, and Italy. I love being active and love to travel. I fell in love with Costa Rica - Specifically the Arenal Area as El Castillo is approximately 2000 feet above sea level in the rain forest where the temperature is moderate 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit with cooling breezes and beautiful countryside.
I cannot live without bicycling, skiing, my friends, my husband, books and Television - Almost but not necessarily in that order.
The most unforgettable book that I have ever read is The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I love the Ender series by Orson Scott Card. My favorite adventure and espionage writer is Nelson Demille because he interjects humer into his main characters. I loved the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon about life in Scotland during its revolt with England and the early days of the settlement of America all combined with time travel.
Two of my most favorite travel destinations are Italy and Costa Rica and when I go I like to join bicycling tours and see the country by bike.
One of my favorite book series and movies was the Hunger Games. I loved the movies Top Gun and also Knights Tale and I mustn't forget The Princess Bride.
I am still a rock music enthusiast as it is very good listening for Biking, skiing and rollerblading. I also like Pucini Operas.
I have to confess that I am a gluttin for carbs which I must reduce at my age and have gotten into juicing. My favorite juice is Banana, green grapes, Orange, pineapple, spinach, slice of lime and crushed ice.
I supplied and decorated the house in a style and comfort pleasing to me as if I were to live there. The renting of my vacation home is a work in progress, and I am open to any and all suggestions because my aim is to ensure my guest's comfort and enjoym

Why they chose this property

I came to CR with a friend in January of 2012. I had been to Costa Rica before and had to come back. We stayed in El Castillo at another property nearby and looked into purchasing a property. I fell in love with this house the moment I saw it With it's fantastic view of the Volcano Arenal, and rolling hills and pasture land, and it's location in the village - very country and nestled in with the locals. Also there are many, many adventures within 1, 2, 3, and 5 kilometers of the house. The house is spacious and very cozy.
