good location, wonderful "palace" with plenty of rooms to spread out and relax. Jerez was a great city to enjoy as well as a good hub to enjoy the area
We had a fabulous stay. Eight friends visited from the UK and this was just perfect. So much space and character whilst being so central. A supermarket opposite was useful and the meal prepared for us by Carlos was exceptional. We enjoyed using the pool to cool down after a day of exploring and there were so many areas to relax in with a sherry. Took a bit of skildul manoeuvring to get the cars in the garage but we managed. Thank you so much for a fantastic trip.

Wonderful
Magnificent house an stay. Excelent assintant Carlos. Great location.
We thought the house was magnificent: location great for the city centre, lots of social space, and good accommodation for 3 couples plus 3 young adults. Pictures give an accurate impression of what it’s like IMO. Communication with the owner and with the housekeeper were both great.
Exactly as listed. Excellent location, super host. Had Carlos cook paella for us twice it was so good! Can't wait to make another visit. Thanks Jose!

A Beautiful Home
This place is gorgeous. It accommodated our party of nine beautifully. So many bedrooms and bathrooms and so much space - every one had plenty of room to relax, whether privately or in a group. It was so comfortable and spacious. There was room for everyone to cook, dine or hang out in a group - but also very comfortable for gathering in smaller groups if desired. I highly recommend this palace if you want to live in pure luxury for a moment in time.

Thank you very much Karol for your kind review on my place and for your advice about the Holy Week. As you are aware now, despite its colourfulness and emotivity, it has also its disadvantages about crowded streets, closed shops, etc.
I took it for granted you knew it in advance as in Andalucía are very famous events.
Hope to see you again in a more tranquil and relaxing time.
Behind an unassuming door, an oasis awaited us. This was the loveliest property we have ever rented. the location is close to the center of everything in Jerez, but just far enough (a few blocks) away to be quiet. The rooms are many and comfortable; it would be a great place to go with a large group. We felt at home, and were enchanted by all of the family photos and drawings. The back garden, with its lemon and orange trees, was a wonderful place for us to spend time with friends and family. We highly recommend this property.

Superb
We were a group of friends visiting Jerez for bodega visits and sherry tastings and Jose's house is as wonderful as it appears on the website. It is beautifully appointed and so spacious, close to the town centre and all amenities so all in all was a perfect base for our visit. Jose also helped with introductions to a couple of the bodegas, so thank you once again for those. We all had a wonderful time and will definately be back soon. Thank you Jose for the use of your amazing home.

A Beautiful Home in the heart of Jerez Old Town
We absolutely loved our 5 night stay in Jose's beautiful home right in the heart of Jerez! We thoroughly enjoyed wandering the Old Town, Tapas, Sherry and Flamenco and then returning to cool off in the courtyard pool. Jose was a fantastic host and very knowledgeable about the area... he helped us to really make the most of our time in Jerez and could not have made us feel more welcome ... a big thank you from us all Jose! Amazing house and host
The house is stunning and even more beautiful than the photos. Booking, check-in, help while there, etc. was all very easy and Jose Maria was very attentive to our numerous inquiries and requests for recommendations. Jerez is a beautiful city and the house is very conveniently located and within walking distance of everything. There is even a grocery store and fruit kiosk directly across the street.
Thanks again, Jose Maria and Carlos, for everything.

Wonderfully grand but exceptionally homely property
We stayed at this property with our grown up children and partners. We were given a truly generous welcome, with lots of great advice and Oloroso to sip whilst we discussed Jerez, it’s sights etc with our host Jose. The house is incredibly well equipped, lots of space for everyone, and superbly located to walk all around Jerez. Carlos, Jose’s caretaker was so helpful, nothing was too much trouble.we would definitely recommend this property for larger groups and it would be truly outstanding for special occasions. We would dearly love to return to both the house and gorgeous Jerez- what a great value, passionate and interesting city it is. Our thanks to both Jose and Carlos for an outstanding week

Incredible Find
Jose's villa is exquisite. Every room is filled with antiques, with great attention to the smallest detail. The spacious villa was the perfect choice for our group of eight. Jose greeted us with a round of sherry. He spent time describing the history of his house, as well as Jerez history. Jose gave us his recommendations of activities for the surrounding area as well as great leads on restaurants. Jose provided an on-site house manager, Carlos who helped us with daily needs. The location was excellent. One of the many highlights was our palace tour, just a few blocks away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I highly recommend this VRBO. Thanks so much.

Charming home on edge of historic district in Jerez
interesting home, filled with antiques. It was a bit musty, but should be noted that we stayed during an heatwave, with lots of humidity. perhaps in the cooler months this would feel more cosy, unfortunately for us, it was hard to enjoy as the temperatures were so warm inside and outside. there were lots of bugs - again, likely due to the weather. The housekkeper, Carlos was lovely. He helps with laundry and parking cars in the garage. Very kind. Jose Maria was very responsive via whats app as well. becasue of the heat, we didnt really use the space as intended, whcih was meant to be a gathering place for our large group. Instead we preferered to be outside in the breeze. if you are a fan of antique homes, you will enjoy this beautiful & historic home very much.

I am very sorry that you suffered a very hot stay. Indeed Andalucia is hot in summer time although ussually in Cádiz it refresheses at night with the tide breeze.
We are pretty near the Ocean, thus with a high relative humidity.
I suppose you noticed I provided in every room electric appliances again mosquitoes if they are the ones refered as bugs. Again, I am afraid nothing I may help you with, as mosquitoes come together with the summer

A fabulous base for a large group in Jerez
I was recently in Jerez for the first time with a group of twelve people. We chose José María's place because it looked like it would have enough room for all of us and because it seemed like it was a convenient spot from which to explore the city. Were we ever right! The palacio is very spacious - so much so the we didn't use all the various sitting rooms. All the main spots in Jerez are a maximum 15 minute walk away and you will have every convenience at your doorstep (including a small grocery store right across the street). The home is an old one so sometimes things don't work exactly right, but Carlos the resident caretaker will fix things straight away. Carlos is a magician: there when you need him and invisible when you don't. José María is also at your beck and call - communication with him was excellent and he was lovely to meet in person. I would love to re-visit Jerez and return to this home.

Lovely stay in this beautifully restored classic home
Our extended family of 12 adults stayed for a week in this lovely home and it is just as it looks in the photos. It's very conveniently located in the old quarter of Jerez and you can walk to everything including the fabulous fish market, the Cathedral, and many cafes and flamenco bars. Walking through the front door into the interior courtyard will take your breath away and gives a feeling of coolness, and calm after a hectic day of sight seeing. A dip in the refreshing pool restores you in time to go out in the evening for wine and tapas, but, you may decide to just stay in and enjoy the quiet back garden area. This is a family home and is very comfortable and inviting while maintaining a distinctly old world Spanish elegance. We loved our stay here. Thank you to Carlos (on site) who helped with any questions we had about the property while we were there and also to the owner, Señor Jose Maria de Lacalle, who was extremely gracious and welcoming from the moment we walked in the front door and was available by phone during our stay.
The listing was accurate.
It's an 18th century home but the property was clean and maintained.
The owner provided good customer service.
I would recommend this property.
Gracias, y mucho gusto! Margi Tenney

Firstly it was a privilege to stay in one of the traditional Palais’ of Jerez. Unfortunately the house hasn’t been updated or modernised in some time which is a shame considering the potential it has.All appliances need updating ,the fridge in the outside kitchen did not work and has not for some time. AC is badly needed throughout the house particularly in the temperatures Jerez often reaches. All the shutters were closed in an attempt to stop the heat getting in which results in a dark musty environment. The foliage around the pool and outside garden are unkept and with filled with insects … ants are everywhere, even in areas where there’s no food. There also seems to be confusion surrounding its listing as an ENTIRE house to let. Carlos the housekeeper is mentioned in the description but we assumed he’d have his own entrance , this however is not the case.In effect you are sharing the dwelling.Carlos I must say however is a lovely helpful man , we just didn’t expect to be seeing him coming and going throughout our stay as we value our privacy. On the plus side , the WiFi is good and the house is charming if a bit faded.

Hi Thomas;
I must confess I am a bit disoriented about your rating and comments, somehow contradictory and biased, I would say.
Yes, the house was built in yhe XVIII century but was refurbished, being an architect, by myself about 20 years ago. Although mantaining arches wooden beams and stone´s walls, all pavements, pipes, wires, windows, etc. were made brand new.
Of course, Andalucia is hot in summertime, everybody knows it, moreover with this disrupting climatic changes, an the gulf stream phenomenon. According to Coppernicus this could be one of the hottest years since 1850. For cooler weatherperhaps you should choose next holidays Finland, Norway or such tipe of countries.
There´s no A/A, true, but neither is offered in my add, and you can not blame what you haven´t bought.
The house is ussually fresh enough with its massive stone´s walls, high ceilings, isolated windows, etc. And it refreshes a lot at night with the sea tide. To close thightly windows and shutters or to lay the sail in the courtyard have been a wise habit of humankind since the begining of times. It provides a dim and gloom light and ambiance much appreciated in hot hours by most sensible people.
Finally, not to extend mysel anymore, my housekeeper Carlos lives in the house in the garret, is clearly stated in the add and most of my prior clients have apreciated a lot his help, discreetion and easyness
So sorry that you didn´t enjoyed your stay as much as I would have wished.
Casa de la Gobernador de Cuba is a lavish historic mansion set within the heart of historic Jerez. The home has good proximity to local points of interest, shopping, restaurants, etc. It makes a great base for learning about the city and region. But it also stands on it's own as a marvelously preserved and maintained historic resource.
The grandeur, atmosphere and historic ambiance of the residence can't be overstated. These aspects aren't easily captured in photos. It has a resonant style and scale of a bygone era. It's very evocative.
The home holds an impressive collection of art and antiques. Tapestries, paintings, sculpture & artifacts abound.
Our family of six spent a week here. It was terrific. An elderly relative with limited mobility was happy with her main floor accommodations. The owner was highly attentive, making sure that she was comfortable. Rooms are spacious and elegant.
The dipping pool was used frequently, as was the dumbwaiter. The residence was constructed to ventilate quite well, even during warm July days in Andalucia. Jerez gets a pleasant ocean breeze on many days.
Carlos, the House Manager, was able to answer the questions that inevitably arise when one is occupying another's residence. And he did our laundry, which was appreciated.
The owner was prompt and informative when asked for suggestions regarding regional dining options, etc.
Our stay was very pleasant and memorable.
