You will be hard pressed to find a better beach vacation value than this! If you are looking for a quiet, low traffic vacation spot, this is it! Wake up to quiet mornings, nestled on the top floor (3rd) amongst grand oaks in view of the ocean and earshot of the rolling surf. This is a place for your family; it is a place your children will love.
This 3BR-2BA condo sleeps 8 at Pleasure Island’s premiere seaside resort and is an elevator building. It is just across the street from the ocean, with it's own outdoor pool, covered gazebo and grilling stations. It is adjacent to tennis courts, a childrens playground, basketball court, shuffleboard courts an indoor recreation center with a large indoor heated pool, hot tub, mens /womens locker rooms with dry saunas and a fitness center equipped with machines and free weights. The condo is equipped with all appliances (microwave, washer/dryer, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster) and is ready for your comfortable and cozy beach get away. Bed sizes include 2 queen, and 2 twins in up/down trundle formation.

Loved the place! Quiet, close access to beach, clean. Had a small issue with parking passes and the owner / property manager responded quickly and they went to all measures to quickly address the issue. It was solved with no impact to our stay or personal schedule. All communication was so pleasant, professional and prompt! (Alliteration unintentional LOL)

Great little place

Check in was easy. Communication was easy. The place was perfect for our family. Beaches across the street and just a short distance in both directions. Private but also close enough to restaurants, coffee, and activities. The civil war grounds, Fort Fischer, the ferry, the aquarium are all close by. The condo was clean. Plenty of towels, dishes, bedding. Appliances worked great. Overall, excellent time at Ocean Dunes, would definitely stay again!

Great place to stay!

We had a great vacation staying in Karl's condo! The space was perfect and the kitchen was fully stocked to cook. We even used the grill by the pool one night. The kids loved the huge indoor pool and the staff were all really nice! It's a very short walk right across the street to the beach with a place to rinse your feet on the way back. We also really enjoyed Fort Fisher and the ferry ride right down the road. We would definitely stay here again!

Peaceful Paradise

Our family enjoyed a fabulous weekend in this spacious, well laid out condo at a wonderful price! The amenities in the neighborhood were perfect and the convenience to local attractions can't be beat. We especially enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub. Access to the beautiful beach was close and easy to get to. The owner was a pleasure to work with. We would highly recommend staying here and plan on doing it again.

I beleive this is one of the very best bargains along the mid altlanic coast. It has great amenities and is clean, convienient and comfortable. Give it a try. I apreciate thoughtful renters that appreciate a bargain and in exchange care for the property. I've never had to keep a deposit....knock on wood.

Location provides many options with the beach across street; outdoor pool within steps of condo; rec center nearby with indoor pool, sauna, tennis court .. Overall an excellent value for money! Owner extremely gracious and response couldn't be quicker! Hope to visit again!

This guest was indeed satisfied but is old school and does not realize a 4 star out of 5 is not so good. VRBO needs to equate their star system to grades in school like A+, A, A-, B,C, D, F etc. I'm not the only owner that is left shaking their head when a great review is deemed poor because of the antiquated scale. Other vacation sites are guilty of the same. These were great guest and I'm pleased to have them anytime.

Upon arrival, I discovered that this property, listed as a three-bedroom accommodation, had all doors locked except for the master bedroom and bathroom. The Host informed me that VRBO's listing was inaccurate, and the property is, in fact, a one-bedroom residence. Given that I had four people in my group, I would not have booked this property or paid the premium rate for a one-bedroom accommodation. However, the Host provided me with access to a master key, enabling me to unlock the additional bedrooms and bathroom. This property boasts an excellent beach side location and is a clean and well-maintained accommodation. The Host is diligent in maintaining their property and expects guests to demonstrate similar respect. I completely understand and respect their expectations

First impressions are good. Loved the location, outdoor and indoor pool very nice and clean. Elevator worked and carts available to assist in taking things to room. Nice layout of the apartment. New stove and dishwasher. Instructions were clear. HOWever. The bed had sand in the sheets. So linens were not changed. Kids feet were black from the floor. It looked clean but obviously was not. No lights in refrigerator and many bulbs blown so limited lighting. Owner may not be aware of that. But light bulbs needed. HVAC worked well.

Absolutely amazing!!!

At first when I was reading the other reviews I was a little skeptical. I ended up booking because I waited until the last min, and it was the only option I had left. I was worried about the “outdated” appliances- I hoped I could use them. When I got there- EVERYTHING WORKED JUST FINE! We had 3 of our kids, ages 10,13, and 15 with us. The ocean is less than a minute walk- you have access to indoor/ and 2 outdoor pools(we couldn’t find the 3rd one- but really didn’t look that hard), play area, basketball hoops and a tennis court. We shopped at Walmart in Carolina beach before we checked in- and everything was amazing!!! We wanted something not so commercialized, and that’s exactly what we got. The neighbors are extremely friendly, and told us about low key gems in the area. One night, we adventured to Carolina beach to watch fireworks on the beach- the kids were so excited! I couldn’t be more happier with the experience that we had there!!!!! I would definitely recommend!!

Great location

Our family was staying in a house right behind these condos so our location couldn’t have been better! We simply walked downstairs and into their back yard. You have great beach access points. Reasonable pool! Easy access to hose off sand. Elevator elevator elevator! Makes any floor rental a “yes” especially when carrying wagons full of stuff for a toddler. Interior:Cute, huge, but a tad musty. Obviously there’s little you can do when you’re staying in a beach house with constant water exposure and they do have a dehumidifier going! Bathrooms are great. Don’t let the pic of the master shower fool you. It’s huge! Seating:Two comfy couches and outdoor furniture are all comfortable Beds: two queens. Much too small for my husband and I but a king rental doesn’t come by often. The bed itself is very comfortable! Tons of blankets and pillows everywhere! We didn’t use the twin as my child uses a pack and play but the trundle room is cute! Plenty of space for two kids! Kitchen:Perfect. Does the job. Easy to check in, check out, and talk with Karl! He gave us his phone number to text if we had any issues which creates a better experience than dealing with a large cooperate rental. Location for Kure:Far down the island. Less traffic unless it’s a holiday that gets a line for the ferry. Easy access to the beach. But with being down the coast, all the “attractions and stores” ARE a bit further. That didn’t bother us at all but something to consider!

We mostly liked staying here.

I polled the adults in our group. The consensus was a rating of about 4. 4 is good but could be better - just like this unit. We liked the neighborhood very much - quiet and out of the way. We also liked the pool, beach access, a/c, washer/dryer, wifi, beach toys/chairs, elevator, rec center, parking, check in/out. We had a fun time, but for the price that is being charged for this 3rd row rental we would have liked a couple of improvements. The stove is difficult to operate. Sorry Karl but it is. Furniture needs a spruce up - dressers were missing knobs and paint and even some nails sticking out of one of them at little kid level. Large hole in the wall in the closet covered with cardboard. Plywood added to the deck likely meant as a temporary repair is coming up causing a trip hazard. Nowhere to wipe your wet beach feet or to step onto out of the shower - another slip hazard. A couple of cheap floor mats would remedy. The unit doesn't really accommodate 8. It has beds and dining area seating for 6. There are a couple of leaky blow up mattresses. So 2 kids in our group essentially slept on the floor. So, as I said, we had fun and the owner was easy to work with. But, for the money we would hope to have some of these issues resolved next time.

We have some soft spots on the back deck that is awaiting replacement and repair by the HOA. I agree with it being a tripping hazard so the pieces were cut smaller and screwed down. I was very unhappy with my handiman that patched the deck.

Great location and plenty of room.Nice to have the indoor pool and playground for the kiddies. Appliances a little dated.Oven smoked when turned on,just needed cleaning, so couldn't bake the birthday cake we planned but not a deal breaker for us :) We All had a good time :) May well return in the future .

Great location but not great condo

My brothers and I stayed at the condo for a weekend fishing trip. This condo is in a great spot. It’s on the quiet end of Kure Beach and right across the street from a beach access. At night, you can hear the waves crashing and enjoy the stars on the deck. The inside is not as great. The condo itself is dated and needs better ongoing maintenance. Multiple lights were out; the smoke detector was chirping; and the overall age of the interior is definitely evident. The worse experience was the cleanliness. It was not cleaned well at all (including bed being made but sheets not replaced from the previous tenants with sand in the sheets). The owner was quick to respond to our requests and offered to help. Overall, the condo needs updates throughout, better maintenance, and significantly improved cleanliness. But the location and responsiveness of the owner are definitely positive.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The unit itself is dated, but spacious for the price. It is also on the top floor, with a very nice balcony. There were chairs and an umbrella and beach toys for the trips to the beach, so we didn't even unpack the things we had brought. The outdoor pool is very nice, although it was closed for 2 of the 3 days we were there due to a pump problem. However, there is an indoor pool within a short walking distance, so we used that. It was nice and had a hot tub, but did not have much of a shallow area for small children to play. There is also a small playground in that area. The host should mention this option on his description since it is very nice when its just too hot at the beach! And the beach itself is just a short walk across the street, but not on the street, so the condo buildings themselves don't get the street noise...but of course there are not water views either. We loved the location, quiet part of the beach, close to the state park. However, it is probably a mile or a mile and a half to any food establishment, so not walking distance in the summer heat. The unit itself was adequate for our needs and a good value. It has a washer and drier but we did not use them as we were only there for 3 days. The smaller bedroom has a trundle bed, not 2 twin beds. This room stayed warmer than the other rooms, probably because the bed and trundle were placed over the vent. The couches were durable, but probably would not have been terribly comfortable for sleeping if we had needed them for that purpose. Being older, I could have used more lighting in the bathrooms and a full length mirror somewhere would have been a nice touch. A single towel and washcloth for each person was supplied, but more than one per person would have been better. I did get in contact with the host before we went, and he was very prompt in replying to my questions. Overall the condo was very comfortable for our group and I would definitely stay there again.
