About this property

Large Rambling Ranch House, In Town with MTN Views, Walk to Shopping/Dining/Pubs

Large Vintage Home with oodles of charm only a few blocks from the center of town, yet The Outpost provides great views of Mt. Princeton and a large fenced backyard with open prairie behind the home that delivers lots of wildlife sightings.

ROOM FOR EVERYONE UNDER ONE ROOF:
Easily accessible year around, the 5 bedrooms at The Outpost furnish comfortable sleeping arrangements for up to 14 people. NO PETS PLEASE.

VERY AFFORDABLE RATES:
The base rate listed per night is for the first 4 guests, with each additional guest only $25 per night. We have created this unique pricing scenario in order to equitably accommodate both large and small groups. We offer a 10% discount for stays 7 nights or longer. We do request a minimum 3 night stay; but if you are looking for just 2 nights, contact us. We may be able to make it work for you. Also if you have young children (toddlers) please contact us for additional discounts.

LAYOUT OF THE HOUSE:
The Outpost provides a king bed downstairs in the Wolf Room and a king bed upstairs in the Master. The Bear Room has a queen and a full-size bed. The Camo Room has a full-size bed. The Game Room - which is the 5th bedroom - sleeps up to six with a pair of full size futons and a queen size memory foam crash pad. There is also a new twin mattress in the Master closet for the little ones that wish to 'camp' indoors near their parents. A Pack-n-Play for the baby is provided in the Master bedroom closet and will fit in any room in the house.

LOTS OF ROOM TO ENTERTAIN:
The two living areas offer plenty of room for entertaining. Beautiful claw-foot dining table with matching buffet in family room seats 8-10, with another table for 4-6 which doubles as a game table. The family room also has a large screen TV with Spectrum TV/internet and a Blu-ray player.

MANY PLACES TO ROAM:
The house has two staircases which allow for endless games of chase and hide-n-seek. The large Game Room is equipped with two TV's for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gaming systems to accommodate the kid in all of us. With two full-size futons and a queen size crash pad, this is where you will find those late night gamers.

Enclosed sun room off the kitchen provides spectacular views of the mountains - even on a cold day! Morning coffee with the wildlife is a treat at any time of year on this patio. Fenced back yard is kid and pet friendly. We recently installed an elevated deck in the back yard which provides even greater views of Mt. Princeton and other peaks. There is a large outdoor playset with rock wall and lemonade stand for hours of outdoor fun for the kids as well as a tether ball game. We have recently installed regulation horseshoe pit in the backyard. We have a corn-hole game in the garage, along with a variety of bicycles - ranging from a tricycle for the little ones and bikes of various sizes for older kids and adults and a bicycle-built for 2!. You will need to provide your own safety gear/helmets. Property Rental includes access to attached two car garage for your equipment and toys.

PEACE OF MIND:
Security cameras are installed on the outside corners of the house to provide our guests peace of mind during their stay. There is a fire escape ladder in the upstairs bedroom. The elevated deck on the back of the house also provides an easy escape down in case of fire.

FAVORITE ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA:
Just a few blocks off Main Street, you can walk or ride your bike to McPhelemy Park and Columbine Park, EddyLine Brewery, and all the antique stores and shops. Less than 2 miles from The Surf Chateau and 5 miles from The Barn at Sunset Ranch - both great wedding venues. Also only a 10 minute drive to Cottonwood Hot Springs up Highway 306, where along the way you will find Comanche Drive-In Theater with a backdrop of 14,000 foot peaks. Just a 14 minute drive to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resorts with multiple swimming pools, water slides and spa treatments. Easy access to the Arkansas River for the country’s best whitewater rafting, kayaking and fishing. Mountain biking, ATV and jeep trails, zip lines and much more are readily available in the area.

There are 12 'Fourteeners' in Chaffee County to choose from, so hike till your heart’s content or the soles of your boots are worn-out! Skiing is available only 36 miles to Monarch Mountain Ski Resort to the south or less than 60 miles to Copper Mountain and Breckenridge Ski Resorts to the north.

RELAXING AFTER A DAY OF FUN:
To ensure that our guests have plenty of hot water after a day of adventure, we have installed two large tank-less water heaters. Long showers after a day of mountain play are no problem!

This old home is perfect for large family reunions or a great group of friends who want to enjoy the countless adventures the mountains provide yet want the convenience of being near town activities. No need to subject your vehicle to the dusty washboard roads you find with many other homes in the area. The grocery store, restaurants, coffee houses and the local craft brewery are only a couple of blocks away.

This large home provides space for everyone to gather, yet private areas to retreat, accommodating both outlaws and in-laws! It is walking/biking distance to everything in the city, yet an easy drive to all the adventures you could imagine. Located on a cul-de-sac street makes it a quiet, low traffic place to relax in the convenience of the city. All access roads are paved so leave the dusty dirt road traveling to your excursions! Enjoy all the summer fun the Arkansas River has to offer. And winter pleasure abounds - with multiple ski slopes less than 1 hour away.

With 2 'living areas' you have lots of space to gather. Sit quietly in the living room and read a book, while others are in the family room watching a movie. Or enjoy the views from the sun room while having that early morning coffee, or glass of wine at 'happy hour'. Send the kids upstairs to the game room while you prepare meals to enjoy in the dining room.

The Outpost is an excellent choice for all those visitors to the area who enjoy the mountain activities, but still want to be close to town. We hope to see you there!

A wonderful and comfortable place to stay
The home was spacious, very well stocked with supplies, nicely decorated and had local maintenace support who checked in with us to see if needed anything. The home is conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood with beautiful mountain views out the back. A very large dining table accomodated everyone very easiliy and the kitchen was easy to use. You can very quickly determine the owners love this home and take great pride in making it attractive and comfortable. This is certainly the nicest vacation rental we have stayed at in a long time and very worthy of an overall five star rating.

Great place for family wedding!
This was a good great place for out family to stay for a family wedding! The house was roomy and it had everything we needed, and the main floor bedroom worked well for our 88-year-old mother. Would highly recommend anyone! Great location and a great community as well!

My husband and I are so glad you are considering our home as YOUR vacation rental. We have been coming to the Buena Vista area for decades. My husband camped up and down Cottonwood Pass as a youth with his family – back when tents didn’t have a floor!
In fact ---- my husband proposed to me on top of one of the mountains you can see from the back porch. Chaffee County – and especially Buena Vista – is a very special place for us. We love it and are confident you will come to love it too.
We live in North Texas because all of our children and grandchildren live there. We bought this home with the intention of living here fulltime someday but in the meantime we decided to share this beautiful part of the country with friends and with select people such as yourself. We try to visit Colorado as much as we can – alone and with all of our family.
We hope you enjoy this area of the country as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

We were headed to our usual stomping grounds up Cottonwood Pass. We arrived early in 2018 and while killing time we notice an 'estate sale' sign. We love picking up unique items when we travel and often shop all the antique places. This time we bought the house! We had been looking for 10 years -- every summer when we came to the area. Something about this big house - with 2 sets of staircases - so much room for our growing family of grandchildren, captured our hearts. And walking distance to the center of town was a plus. Of course, when we looked out in the backyard and saw 'our' mountain, we knew it was what we had been looking for the last 10 years! Our grandkids love chasing each other up and down the staircases. And their parents love the game room for themselves and their kids. We can all sit around the large dining room table for holiday dinners, and we all gather in the family room to watch a great movie! It's not a log cabin; it's not in the woods; it's not on the river. It's also not 20 minutes away from the nearest store, activity, etc. It is a great rambling home with so much to offer, so much to do, and so many places to hang. Walk to K's Dairy Delite for an ice cream after dinner; or walk to Eddyline Pub for pizza and a brewsky. So you can stay 'in the mountains' and be far away from anything, or you can stay in town and be close to everything, have beautiful views of the mountains, and the same distance from the activities you want to partake. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do.

Plenty of bicycles provided for all ages.

Tether ball set provides hours of entertainment for all ages.
Elevated backyard deck provides additional entertaining area and more spectacular mountain views.
