About this property
Historic Home in Heart of Nye Beach with Ocean Views & Private Outdoor Hot Tub
Built in 1910 and completely renovated, this home combines the elegant character of a bygone era with all the modern conveniences. We bought this wonderful property in May, 2015 and have been running it since then as a vacation rental. We appreciate all the incredible work and attention to detail that has been put into the complete renovation.
This lovely house sits on a large lot on a hill, providing lots of privacy while remaining close to all the happenings in Nye Beach. Great for small groups who appreciate older homes and antiques.
Three bedrooms, 3.5 baths, great room, family room, media room, 2200 square feet. Two gas fireplaces, two decks, plasma TV, double oven, quartz countertops. The round hot tub sits in a protected and private gazebo. Shops and restaurants, city park and walking trail, and beach access are all just steps away. Ocean view.
MAIN FLOOR: Great room featuring a very comfortable living area with a view out to sea, a well stocked kitchen with quartz countertops and double oven, eating bar, dining area, and doors out to the spacious deck. The media room features a 50' plasma TV, state of the art sound system, and gas fireplace. The large main floor bedroom has a King-size bed. The main floor also has a full bath.
UPSTAIRS: Master bedroom with Queen-size bed, full bath, and window seat looking out over Nye Creek to the city park.
The second bedroom has a Queen-size bed and window seat looking into the treetops. At the top of the stairs is a comfortable sitting area with window seat, easy chair and a view of the ocean, and a half bath.
DAYLIGHT BASEMENT: Family room with a large sitting area, gas fireplace, 6 foot slate top pool table and teak card table. From this inviting room, there is easy access to the gazebo with hot tub. When you get out of the hot tub, you can shower in the full bath in the basement. The laundry area with front loading washer/dryer is tucked into a closet in the basement.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: Two minute walk to the heart of Nye Beach and its many shops and restaurants. Two minute walk to put your toes in the sand. (We have NO idea why VRBO says it is an eight minute drive - that is plain wrong!) You won't have to walk more than 5 minutes to any of over a dozen great eateries - from Nana's Irish Pub to the well established and homey Chowder Bowl, delicious gluten free fare at Café Nye Beach, fresh baked breads and pastries at Panini, fabulous dinners at Zach's Bistro, April's and the Sylvia Beach Hotel, breakfast at Cafe Stephanie, yummy treats from Nye Beach Sweets. There is so much to discover in Nye Beach.
The Performing Arts Center, Visual Arts Center and galleries are all within a ten minute walk. Ten minute drive to the Bay Front and Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and State Park. Fifteen minute drive south to the Newport Aquarium, Hatfield Marine Science Center and north to Yaquina Head Lighthouse and its Marine Wildlife Interpretive Center. The Newport bus shuttle will take you to all these locations for free! Ample free shuttle passes available at our house for use during your stay.
BEACH ACCESS: There are two places to access the beach near the house. The Nye Beach Turnaround is the closest - just 3 blocks away, with picnic tables, a place to wash the sand off your feet and public bathrooms. The second is the Donald A Davis park, a few blocks further south, at Olive and Coast streets. This beach access has a long winding paved path down a bluff to the beach, some cool sculptures, public restrooms and a memorial to sailors lost at sea.
*We have received our business license endorsement from the City of Newport by complying with all of the City's requirements for vacation rental homes.

About the host
Hosted by Andrea and Hans-Christian Muenchmeyer

Andrea grew up in Portland, OR and has lived in Oregon for much of her life. Hans-Christian is from Germany - a transplant to the Pacific Northwest since 2006. Andrea is a children's book writer and illustrator, Hans-Christian is an engineer. We manage this house from Portland, and visit as often as we are able. Because of the extraordinary natural beauty and wonderful attractions, we have fallen in love with Nye beach and Newport.
Why they chose this property
We bought former Cornelius House because we adored the house and its location in historic Nye Beach. We originally thought we wanted a place that was right on the ocean, but this house had too much charm - not to mention being in the center of Nye Beach.
What makes this property unique
We both love older homes - their architecture, design, functionality, and looks. In particular, we love this home's gorgeous refinished 1910 fir wood floors. This home has old world charm with modern conveniences, excellent for any accommodation. There are views of the ocean from every floor - and the three window benches on the third floor are inviting and charming - perfect for curling up with a good book, no matter the weather.
