This little cottage was immaculate and silent, away from the road, with stunning sunrises across the meadow, complete with deer one morning. Mark was attentive. I can’t imagine any other amenity that would have improved my stay. I will definitely stay here again.

Chalyce was an excellent guest. Her communication was also stellar. The house was clean when she checked out. Chalyce is welcome back anytime.
We so enjoyed our stay. Comfortable and convenient for our visits to children and grandchildren in the CO Springs area. A respite at the end of the day to relax.
We stayed at this property a handful of years ago. When we decided to visit Colorado Springs again this summer, we were excited to find the cottage was available. Mark and Angela are fabulous hosts and there added touches are much appreciated and highly valued.

Graham and Kelly along with their 3 kids stayed for a week at our cottage, this was their second stay with us.
They took exceptional care of the cottage and even watered the flower pots and garden while we were away. It is very refreshing to have guests take such great care of your belongings, making sure to put things back where they found them and to leave the space so neat and tidy.
It was a pleasure to host the entire family and we would love to have them stay again.
Lovely place, with everything you could need. Hosts were gracious and responsive.

Denise and Roger were a real pleasure to host. They went over and above as guests to leave the cottage in order and very tidy before they left. They even watered the garden for us while we were out of town. We would love to host them again.
The Hummingbird Guest Cottage was perfect for the 3 of us for our 5 night stay while attending Parents Weekend at USAFA. The cottage was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the hosts, Mark & Angela were quick to respond to messages and very friendly. We enjoyed seeing deer and wild turkey on the property as well. Would stay there again!
Lois and here family were excellent guests. They followed all the house rule’s and left the property nice and clean. Would love to have them back again sometime.
Hummingbird Cottage at Black Forest Ranch was awesome - more than we could have hoped for! Thanks Mark and Angela. You were excellent hosts.

Hi Judy and Fred,
We thoroughly enjoyed having you guys, your son and daughter-in-law stay in the cottage. I hope we were able to make the event even more joyful with and quiet and peaceful surrounding.
Happiest wishes for peace, love and posterity for the newly wedded couple. 🥳🥳🥰🤗😊
Charming, rustic cottage - close to town but felt we were deep in the country - very peaceful! Loved seeing the deer & hummingbirds on the property. Owners were very pleasant & easy to get along with. Great place to spend our down time while we were not attending wedding events or sightseeing.

What a pleasure it was to host you all at our cottage. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us. I also want to give you my appreciation and thanks that the cottage was left in excellent condition. It’s rare to have guests take the time to make sure items are put away and tidy up before they leave. When they do, I always let them know how much we appreciate it.
We hope that you will make another trip to see us in the future. Until then, stay healthy, safe and especially stay happy!!
We had a wonderful stay. We had everything we needed. It was just outside of town on the main house property and was so quiet and safe. We were 15-20 min drive to everything we wanted to see and a Walmart close by for groceries. The house had everything we needed. We had a wonder stay!

Mandy,
We are so glad you and your family chose to stay here. We appreciate the awesome review. Come stay again if your ever in Colorado again!!
Wonderful retreat on the southern edge of the Black Forest area of Colorado Springs. We stayed for 34 days, all of June and first days of July. So restful to get away from the busy traffic in most of the area. We have family that live nearby in Meridian Ranch and it was a pretty drive on country roads to go visit them.
Mark and Angela were wonderful hosts. We arrived to a spotless cottage that was more than welcoming. The house was exactly as it was described which made things so much less stressful when traveling with young children. The amenities were perfect with all details well thought out. Definitely enjoyed our stay, thank you again so much!
It was a perfect week. The house was clean and cozy. The property was beautiful and quiet. The kitchen was well equipped. The hosts were pleasant and friendly. It was all we could have asked for and more. Thank you so much for everything.
Outstanding! Loved every inch of this cottage; so well-decorated; so welcoming. Super clean! Would love to stay here again and again. Luxurious linens; plush bath towels; specialty bathroom soaps; a variety of condiments so you don't have to buy a full jar or bottle that you'll never use up. And the hosts were very responsive and helpful. This is the place to stay when visiting Colorado Springs and nearby towns!!
The cottage felt like home the moment we walked in and the property is beautiful. We had mountains views and saw all kinds of birds and wildlife right outside our window every day! The property is very private and quiet.
The hosts were amazing. They were very welcoming and they had everything we needed for our stay. From toiletries to luxury towels, kitchen essentials and a welcome basket, everything was perfect.
We would 100% recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a getaway in Colorado Springs.
Beautiful little cottage, with enough room for 4. Very clean and well kept. The grounds were beautiful as well. Lots of birds, evidence of deer. The owners were responsive and easy to contact. The only not so positive issue was the water pressure in the kitchen. Owners definitely tried to repair but could not during our stay. We made do, and had a wonderful time.
Plan was for Son & Granddaughter to stay with wife & I. I ended up being hospitalized with heart attack $ steak. Missed the whole week. Son, Daughter & 2 granddaughters stayed in our place. Between airfare, rental car & VRBO non-refundable we lost out on $3k. Family thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Probably never get another chance with our aging & increasing health issues we will never get to experience this wonderful property.
This was our second visit to The Hummingbird Cottage, we were able to stay for almost 5 weeks this time, obviously we love it! Very comfortable for us retirees, feels like a "home away from home" to us. The peacefulness of being half a mile away from a busy road & encroaching subdivisions was wonderful...traffic is very busy throughout most of the Colorado Springs area, and this is a true retreat in the Black Forest. The owners home and ceramics studio are the only other buildings by the cottage, and the owners are great folks! Very friendly and quick to respond to any contact we initiated with them. So many extra touches: basket of snacks, toiletries in bathrooms, flower garden & deck plants, spices & condiments, laundry & cleaning supplies, nightlights, reading material, super comfortable beds & pillows (lots of pillows!). We hope to stay here each time we visit this area.

We always love having repeat guests, especially Hal and Janet. They are a real treasure and we are so happy they like our special cottage. We agree that the cottage is a wonderful retreat from all the activities going on around the Colorado Springs area. We do all we can so that our guests can enjoy the tranquility of the ranch. Looking for to having them back next year.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in June. The cabin is a charming country retreat. It has a full and well stocked kitchen, you could prepare Thanksgiving dinner with all of the pots, pans and plates available. Appreciated that there were condiments in the fridge to use. The cabin has lot's of nice extra's for your stay, we even found sleeping masks and ear plugs the bedroom dresser. The cabin is filled with the Bissels' family pictures and we enjoyed talking with Mark about his family and working ranch. 160 acres are available for walking and taking in the peace and quite of the countryside. Lot's of wildlife to see.
The only thing missing was a guest information book which would and been helpful to have about how the cabin works and where you can walk on the property. Other than that I would highly recommend the place.

Diane - Thank you for staying with us, we are so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for leaving it so tidy and clean. I actually am working on a guest information guide and plan to include a lot of details, thanks for the suggestion on where we allow guests to walk, it will be in the book,
Beautiful property and a lovely updated clean and well decorated home. Very comfortable and had lots of utensils and other items in the kitchen so we could easily cook which we like to do. Adorable cafes around the corner, but a little removed from the city hub a bub which was really nice coming from orlando florida. Loved the peace and quiet. Had a deer come up to our glass door it was so beautiful. The main bedroom does get a bit hot in the morning, but it was a good way to wake up and not sleep too long. Lots of wonderful amenities and close to the sites like garden of the gods was only twenty minutes. Wish there was shade for the car to park under. We had been parking under a sliver of shade of a tree but the owners came home on our last day and drove a railroad spike so we couldn't do that anymore. I found that odd and unsettling. The trip was definitely more comfortable because they were away for most of it. Their home is directly across from the cottage so it was a bit weird after that feeling like they were watching us. There was nothing in front of the tree but dirt so there was no reason for that and it soured the end of our perfect trip a bit.

Thank you for staying at our guest cottage. We are so happy to share the beauty and tranquility of our surroundings and the wildlife that stops for a visit. Congratulations on catching the bridal bouquet and it was very thoughtful of you to leave it for us.
You are correct the main house and cottage are pretty close separated by the driveway and road. We absolutely value our guests and strive to ensure they feel welcome, comfortable and have a sense of privacy when they stay in the cottage. We maintain our distance as much as possible and try to ensure our guests have a sense of security and privacy.
We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed in the parking and lack of shade. We wished we had known during your stay as we could have suggested several areas that offer shade which are very close to the cottage. This has never been an issue with previous guests however due to climate change our temperatures are much higher. I will add a note to the cottage guest reference guide on shaded spaces to park. The railroad tie was placed to specifically designate the parking spot since the area is surrounded on two sides by grass, native grass and wildflowers. Unfortunately the area you parked in was up close to the side of the house where there is native grass and wildflowers. With the much hotter weather it’s difficult to keep the grassy areas growing and living on a ranch it’s important to maintain any and all grass we can.
We apologize for the misunderstanding with the railroad tie placement if we had known you parked there for shade we could have offered an alternative.
Kind Regards
Angela and Mark Bissell
We loved the cottage. Mark and Angela were very hospitable. It was so clean, the location was perfect and we loved that it was secluded from all the city lights and we were able to stargaze and watch meteors at night . I can’t wait to go back!
Gorgeous property and beautiful, clean home in a lovely, quiet neighborhood. Very peaceful and serene with wonderful hosts in house next door. Would definitely stay again. Thank you, Angela and Mark for matthis cottage so comfortable
We really enjoyed our time here! The kitchen was great to cook in and we enjoyed eating dinner on the outdoor deck. It was an easy drive for lots of beautiful hiking and lots of fun things in surrounding towns. The place was clean and the host provided lots of snacks that were yummy. Would definitly stay here again.
