About this property

The Orange House (Tasman Peninsula)

The Orange House is an award winning holiday home located on the Tasman Peninsula - 50 acres of fenced paddocks, landscape, walking tracks & views of Norfolk Bay. Guests are greeted by a caretaker & left to enjoy. Relax or use as a base to explore local festivals, Three Capes Walk, Yellow Boat Tour, Bangor Wine & Oyster Bar, Lavender Farm, local whisky/ gin, or the Port Arthur Historic Site. Amazing wildlife, pristine beaches, spectacular star gazing & possibility of seeing the Southern Aurora.

The house is set in a beautiful rural landscape area consisting of interconnected 50-500 acre properties over-looking Norfolk Bay. Premaydena and Koonya have historical origins as convict & orchard precinct. Koonya has become famous for the annual February Garlic Festival.

The house is approximately 1 hr (85km) from Hobart airport or 4 hrs (340km) from Devonport if travelling from Melbourne on the Spirit of Tasmania where car rentals are available (best to reserve one before travel). Four wheel drives not required to access the house driveway. A rental car is essential to get around whilst visiting the Tasman Peninsula. NOTE: Mobile Phone Navigation Apps may not identify the council maintained Coopers Road (unsealed), so be sure to keep an eye out for Coopers Rd. If you end up at Nichols Road, you have gone too far and need to turn around and head back to Coopers Road. There is no access to the House via Nichols Road nor Cooks Road.

The Orange House was shortlisted for Top 10 Global Houses in the International Architecture Awards (Nov. 2015). Architecture Tasmania award winner (2015). Magazine feature DWELL (Nov. 2015). Steel Profile (May. 2015). Jam Factory (NFP) Steel Art Design Architecture traveling exhibition (2017-2019).

Tasmanian Architect, Misho + Associates: The House is new, completed in 2015/2016 and is super-insulated (ie. walls, floors and ceilings) to maintain cooling in summer and warmth in winter. The house is highly visible due to its external orange metal panels, colour matched to the region's fiery lichen and indigenous waratah shrub's bright flowers. The orange panels slide open to reveal a two-stage, private core. Windows align perfectly with the parted panels to access north views across Norfolk Bay. The Orange House has an approved planning permit issued by the Tasman Council for visitor accommodation, noting that the "maximum occupancy permitted is five (5) persons only".

There is a fully appointed kitchen featuring Miele appliances: induction stove top, microwave combi oven, main electric oven, dishwasher, kettle (with T2 tea), and Nespresso coffee capsule machine. There is a Webber bbq (wood/briquettes, not gas) off the back deck. There is a TV in the main lounge room and in both bedrooms, bluetooth portable speaker to play Spotify music. Access to the internet is via your own portable modem or mobile phone (hotspot connection). Laundry includes Miele washing machine & dryer plus three clothes racks that can be erected on decks or inside. A small library with novels and Tasmanian coffee table books/ tourist brochures to read. A DVD player is located in lounge room to watch various DVD titles, includes various Netflicks DVD box set titles. Bedroom 1 & 2 have queen sized beds.

Complimentary: milk and coffee and pantry. Please let us know if there is anything else that you would like our co-host to source for you.

Note: All water for kitchen, showers, bathrooms, laundry is from rainwater tanks (30kL). Drinking water is from a stainless steel faucet on the kitchen bench top providing purified water using a two-stage filtration process: Stage 1 – Royal Doulton ceramic 0.2 micron Pre-filter: mechanically filters out bacteria, parasites, dirt, rust and sediment. Stage 2 – Carbon block 1 micron Post-filter: uses ultra-fine ceramic technology with a premium 1 micron carbon block filter manufactured in the USA to effectively remove chlorine, chemicals, pesticides, unpleasant tastes/ odour and heavy metals. Made from premium coconut-shell carbon, fresher, sweeter tasting water and micro-biologically safe drinking water.

For any help, please contact the property caretaker (co-host) or call the owners (host) by mobile phone. Owners are based in Sydney and not available in person.

The best stay ever
This property is exceptional and was everything we hoped it would be. Kicking back on that wrap around verandah with a nice red and a cheese platter…..perfect. Really well appointed property.

Tasmania Visit
This location worked out really well for us visiting the peninsula's historical sites and a first time visit with my cousin who relocated here years ago. Both couples had worked in design and construction prior to retirement so we were fascinated by the box in box design of the house.
