Envision your feet in the white sand, watching the many shades of blue Sapphire Beach has to offer. How will you spend your day? Playing with the fish and turtles on the reef at Sapphire Beach? Parasailing or jet skiing? Taking a charter to the BVI? Catching the ferry from Red Hook to St. John? Its all convenient from from "The Captain and the Mermaid" condo at Sapphire Beach, St. Thomas.

We invite you to share our piece of Paradise. We fell in love with St. Thomas because of the beautiful water, breathtaking scenery, fun atmosphere, and great people. We found that St. Thomas was our favorite vacation destination and kept going back year after year. We even got engaged and married on island. Our hope is that you too will fall in love with St. Thomas like we did.

"The Captain and the Mermaid" is a studio condo located at award winning Sapphire Beach in the gated Sapphire Village Condominiums. Our condo is located up the hill on the parking lot level (no stairs needed). Sapphire Village has 2 pools onsite and a restaurant/bar. Sapphire has its own watersports/dive shop located at the beach, a marina with charters, and is conveniently located a mile away from Red Hook on the East End of St. Thomas. Red Hook hosts a variety of restaurants/bars, shopping, ice cream shop, a grocery store and the ferry dock to help you island hop.

We have a sister condo VRBO number 1562495 that also sleeps 2, it is two doors down from this condo. If you're traveling with more people and looking for something close please take a look.

Michael was great! When we got there the power had gone out on the island & we also weren’t sure of a path to the beach. He text us, offered to come up & walked us down to the beach. He & his wife even bought us a drink & gave us some tips for the island. The vrbo had all the beach things we needed!

We lived The Captain and the Mermaid. It was everything we needed for a short stay, but would also work for a longer visit. It’s close to many things (beaches, restaurants, stores, etc in Redhook) and well appointed. Michael is a great host and responds lightning fast to any questions you may have. A great experience and we will return next time in St Thomas.

Excellent location & comfortable!

Loved staying here! We met up with family who stayed in building next door. Lovely Pool was nearby w/BBQ grills. Everything you need is in condo: nice beach chairs, enough cooking things, excellent AC!! Safe, 24-hour security complex & 6 minutes walk to fantastic beach only suggestion is a few more beach chairs. Very clean!!

Great location; Would definitely stay here again

Was really happy with this place. Condo was exactly as described, and we appreciated the detailed check-in instructions sent beforehand. One major perk is the on-site amenities: two pools, one just a few steps from this unit, beach not much further, and a great on-site restaurant by the pool. Also loved how close many bars and restaurants and nightlife were (less than a 5-minute drive). Planning to stay here again next time we’re in St. Thomas!

One Night at the Captain and the Mermaid

We stayed one night enroute from the airport to St John. The condo was clean and met our needs. There was a restaurant/bar within walking distance, but no walkable store. We didn’t get to experience the beach during the day, but looked nice from the condo view. The security guard was so friendly and let us into her A/C booth while she called us a cab. The pool just outside the unit was so refreshing to unwind before bedtime.

Repeat, Repeat again

The condo was very clean. It had everything we needed to stay for a week and be very comfortable. The location of the condo couldn't be better. Next to the ocean, 2 swimming pools, 2 restaurants and the friendliest little bar. The people were great and helpful. We have made life long friends here. We have all agreed to repeat same week next year. The bonus was when we arrived, it was also carnival week. We definitely recommend The Captain and The Mermaid as your place to stay when you visit St. Thomas. Also do a day trip to St. John.

My birthday stay at captain and the mermaid

Great place love it will go again .Mr Harper is a great host Michelle is pleasant to work with the view is great the hill a little difficult transportation expensive food costly with all that said it was still one of my best vacation. Went for my 70th birthday with my niece who celebrated her sweet sixteen and my sister in law. Beaches are great. Mr. Harper I love the unit sorry it is cannot accommodate more people. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants to have a beautiful ocean view

Best location!

We had the best trip! My sister and I were looking for a getaway and definitely chose right. This property is in a fantastic location on Sapphire Beach near the Red Hook ferry to St. John. They had everything we needed and walking distance to a couple restaurants and bars. The pizza at Paradise pie on Sapphire beach hit the spot after a long day of snorkeling and Breakfast was a quick grab at go at Beach buzz. Side note, make time to drive to Brewers beach. It’s right by the airport so about 25 min, but we’ll worth it to see so many beautiful turtles. My absolute favorite. The owner Michael was amazing with communication and responded immediately to any questions I had. I highly recommend this gem.

Great Stay

Stayed at The Captain and the Mermaids Unit at Sapphire Beach Village. Was in contact prior and while staying with the host. They gave us recommendations on all we needed for a great stay, once there, we had a few last questions and they responded almost immediately. The unit sits high up allowing for great views. It was well equipped with a kitchenette, comfy bed, sitting area, closets, ceiling fans, a/c and TV. Coolers and beach chairs were also there. A pool was literally steps away from the door and the other pool and snack bar was only a short walk. The beach was outstanding, allowing for sunbathing, snorkeling or just taking a quick swim. Beach bar, pizza and fancy restaurant catered to all you needed. We had a great stay and would highly recommended this rental for a short or long stay, Enjoy!

Mom and Daughter Snorkeling Vacation

The Captain and the Mermaid was a perfect place for our 5 day mom and daughter vacation. Open concept apartment, very clean, comfortable bed, and a full stocked kitchen. The best part was the table by the window for eating, playing board games, drawing…all while admiring the view! There is also a nice restaurant by one of the two swimming pools, and Sapphire beach just a short walk away. Red Hook town was 2 min drive, for our grocery needs, and the car ferry to St John where the National Park with spectacular beaches await!!! The aquarium is also very close to the property. Mike was always there for us, a text away, quick to answer. We had no problems, and all the instructions were clear. Thank you Mike!, Hope to come again soon😃

We had a great time

Decided not to rent a car because not used to driving on the opposite side of the road. Public transportation is easy and plentiful but if you don’t have a car the climb down to the beach is strenuous with all of your beach items. We managed even though we are elderly, we are in pretty good shape but others might not be. Suggest specifying in description. Also backpack chairs would have helped a lot!

Insomnia

We waited until 4 pm to check in . The view was nice. The cleaning lady showed up at 730 pm . We saw cockroaches in the room and my kid got very scared . We are in a place at 10 pm with cockroaches and no place to go . Unfortunately the refund takes 2 weeks and we are not rich. I wish we can have a chat face to face with the owner . We got insomnia and took the cucarachas with a broom outside the room. My kid cryied all night. I have pictures and videos . I learn cockroaches can survive the atomic bomb. We contact the owner and we told him the cleaning lady arrived very late probably she was checking what type of people we are. We went to the Westin and we had a great time . Sorry but this was my experience. We had to stay here without sleep .

Great Time

Everything about this studio is spacious and in a great location. Less than a 5 minute drive to the ferry which is great if you are trying to explore St. John’s as well. It’s about 4 mins to all the bars and restaurants which makes life very easy after a long day at the beach. They also let me check in early because no one stayed the night before which made our lives a lot easier when we got there. Thanks for a great week!

We loved staying here at this property and the host was very nice! It was super clean and beautiful! It had everything we wanted and the view was an absolute dream!! I highly recommend you book with them. It will be worth it. Just an fyi, it does sit on a steep hill. Most of the area does, so if you don’t rent a car beware that your calf’s will be made of steel by the end of your trip.

We enjoy too many hobbies that range from playing with the our own and the neighborhood kids, to scuba diving, snorkeling, to biking on and off road, Rock climbing kayaking and lots of other adventures that we seem to stumble into as we enjoy our days.

Why they chose this property

We enjoy traveling to lots of places in the Caribbean and seem to find ourselves returning time and again to St Thomas. We fell in love with the beautiful Virgin Islands. Sapphire beach offers the best snorkeling and beach combo in our opinion. The location being so close to Red Hook make it ideal. When we found this property we were pleased and felt we couldn't pass it up and would like to make it available to others to enjoy as much as we plan to.

What makes this property unique

Excellent views, amazing snorkeling, close to the beach while able to enjoy the sea breezes since the building is located up on the hill. The amenities are enough to keep you happy while still making you want to venture out and see what else the island has to offer.
