Beautiful farmhouse in quiet countryside, idyllic setting, private 12x6m pool
La Roche nestles in the beautiful countryside of the southern Dordogne, between Bergerac and the exquisite medieval bastide of Eymet. The 1-acre garden contains a 12x6m private pool with diving depth. A further 9 acres belong to the house, and there are open fields beyond. The white stone farmhouse dates from about 1860 and has been sympathetically and tastefully restored to a luxury level, whilst retaining exposed beams and stonework and other traditional features. Downstairs: Entrance hall with view to upper level; Kitchen with hand-crafted limed oak units, hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer & dishwasher; Lounge; 3rd Bedroom; Utility area, with toilet, washing machine & tumble dryer; Bathroom with basin, corner bath & shower. Upstairs: Gallery overlooking hall; two Bedrooms with a/c and en suite bathrooms, second Lounge also with a/c. Garden: Superb views over rolling countryside; Tables & chairs to front & rear of house; BBQ; table tennis; children’s swing & slide.
Security: As ours is a very rural location, we have security cameras around the outside of the house in case of a problem such as a break-in. We follow the Vrbo policy on this, and have made sure that the camera at the rear of the house doesn't cover any part of the pool area.
Travel - Flying: Ryanair and British Airways serve Bergerac (just 10 miles away) from various airports around the UK. Both airlines also fly to other airports in south-west France. There are several car hire companies at Bergerac airport.
Travel - Driving: The journey can be done in a day from Calais, Boulogne or other ports, or you might have a more leisurely start to your holiday with an overnight stop, perhaps on the Loire - we can give you details of places we've stayed in, if you wish. We'll include full driving instructions with our booking confirmation letter.
Climate: The area has a temperate climate, and usually enjoys relatively mild winters with long spring and autumn seasons. The summers here can be very hot - ideal for sun lovers.
Should you wish to discuss your holiday requirements or travel arrangements, or find out more about the house, please send us a message via Vrbo.

Thank you for your lovely review of La Roche, we're so pleased to hear that you had a wonderful holiday there. We'd love to welcome you back another time.
We have just returned from a brilliant couple of weeks at La Roche. The house and setting is lovely and so peaceful. We loved sitting in the garden or by the pool and listening to the birds. The house itself sleeps 8 and upstairs is a/c which was a relief from the 34 degree heat. Pool was clean and large enough for all the kids to play. Nearby to Bergerac with lots of easily reached day trips. Would definitely return.

Lovely Location Nice Villa
This is a nice villa with a lovely pool..
On the downside…
kitchen cupboards are full of the owners food.
There is recording CCTV cameras all around the outside of the property…which was not stated in the listing, we go to villas for privacy.

Hi Nicola,
We hope that you had a great time at La Roche. Thank you for your review. We take our guests comments seriously and try to address any negative points. We have found that our guests like to have some basic food cupboard essentials at the house (tea/coffee/herbs and spices etc). Sometimes guests leave other items in the cupboards at the end of their stay and provided they are in date our policy has been to leave them for other guests to use should they wish. In the light of your comment we'll have a rethink about this. Our cleaner empties the fridge between guests so no fresh foods are left.
We do understand your concern about the security cameras and have been trying to find an appropriate place on our listing to let guests know about them. I can assure you that apart from checking each morning that the cameras are working we only monitor them if there is a security problem.
We will look again at our listing and amend it appropriately.

Lovely countryside retreat.
It was wonderful to visit La Roche again and to see the amazing new upstairs accommodation. It's all been beautifully done and was much appreciated. We've always loved La Roche; the pool is brilliant and we love the quiet and doing our rounds of the local markets! As ever, we hope to return! Many thanks for making such a lovely place available.

Thanks for your lovely review - hopefully see you at La Roche again soon.
Beautiful property, lovely and clean. Particularly loved the upstairs en-suite bedrooms with plenty of storage and the upstairs lounge area very comfy, plus the air conditioning was a godsend. Great pool, very clean, the only downsides, if I had to be picky, the grounds could do with being fenced off as the cars do come speeding down the road in front of the property and the pebbly area around the pool might be more comfortable with fake grass.

Thank you for your lovely review, we’re so glad that you enjoyed your holiday at La Roche. We welcome our guests’ comments as it allows us to see the house from a different perspective. We have thought about enclosing the garden of the property, but it’s not practical and doing it would be out of line with general practice locally. We also love to keep the open feel of being part of the surrounding countryside.
We’ve considered lots of options for the pool surround. La Roche is based on a rock bed that shifts markedly over time including season to season. We’ve settled on pebbles with stepping stones as the most practical solution.

Great family holiday
We had our first experience of the newly extended and renovated La Roche during the summer and we can only describe our time there as fantastic. The upstairs now has two big en-suite bedrooms (both used with the travel cots provided) and a lounge area which is great for spending the evening (if not around the BBQ). The finish is of very high quality and extremely comfortable, and the outside pool area was enjoyed greatly by the kids. La Roche is private and secluded, but close enough to the local amenities to make a wonderful stay for the whole family.
Can't wait to return again next year!
We had a lovely week at la Roche! We particularly loved the pool for the kids, the multiple seating options, and the air con upstairs (although to be honest, even the non-air con rooms stayed relatively cool despite mid 30s temps). We found it very well equipped and clean, and so peaceful! Jenny was great to communicate with and happy to help with specific requests for cots, check out times etc. You definitely need a car to get around but it’s an easy 2 min drive to a bakery in Singleyrac (and a small playground for kids), and an easy 10 to a supermarket and the town of Eymet. Cabs are not that easy to come by if you need them so be sure to book ahead (we used taxi Eymetois a couple of times). Thanks Jenny and Tim!
We booked this stay initially in 2020 and so glad we could finally make it. The house is located on a small rural road, country side is very agricultural. The house itself is pretty big, in very good condition apart from bathroom downstairs everything has been updated. There is a wonderful lounge on second floor with TV and AC. Both bedrooms upstairs have AC. Shutters closed make rooms very dark to sleep.Wonderful swimming pool, very clean. No complaiints, apart from slow Internet which sometimes fails and many flies and mosquitoes at the time of our stay which we found difficult to control when windows and doors are open. We enjoyed our stay in this area with a lot of villages to explore and drivable distance to Bordeaux city, although you’ll have to stay overnight. We would recommend this house without reservation! Owners were easy to deal with, although we found driving instructions very confusing and you can easily find it on google maps.

Thank you so much for your lovely review, we're so glad you had a relaxed and enjoyable stay.
We'll have another look at our driving instructions and see if we can improve them for the future.
The rural setting was perfect - so peaceful - just what we needed. A soaring buzzard and a few tiny lizards in the garden were the only regular visitors 😂!!
We loved the house and it was very well equipped, especially in the kitchen with lots of thoughtful touches. The pool is fabulous - a really good size. As it’s not heated, it maybe a tad brisk on cooler days but great as the weather heats up. There were all sorts of games available- including a table tennis table, badminton and a football - all great to keep family entertained on relaxing days by the pool.
The upstairs rooms are all beautifully done and very spacious. The large lounge is great for relaxing and watching TV together after a long day out. Downstairs has a more traditional toilet and bathroom and also has a nice updated and spacious bedroom similar to the upstairs ones.
Jenny is a lovely host and was very helpful and quick to respond to all my emails. The Welcome pack was very well out together and had a lots of useful info for our stay.
We specifically chose the rural location for the tranquility and we were not disappointed. There is beautiful surrounding countryside with sunflower fields and vineyards. Bergerac airport, town and supermarket are all within 20-25mins which is great.
Some of the places we wanted to visit (Rocamadour, Padirac caves, Sarlat) were 2-3hrs by car but well worth a visit.
Overall, we had a fabulous holiday and would love to go back again as La Roche is a real gem.

Thank you Paul for your lovely review, we're so glad that you had a great holiday, and of course we'd love you to come back another time.
Schaduw is een must.

Thank you for your review, we're so glad that you had a great holiday. We're sorry that the large parasol by the pool was damaged and unusable during your stay - it has taken a while to get a new one installed.
Regarding flowers in the garden, we would love to have more and have tried various varieties over the years. We now keep to hardy varieties in the hope that they survive the very mixed temperatures of the area.
Great accommodation, very spacious, and a great pool , everything you needed for a holiday in the sun in the DordogneInformation via the hosts was first class and informative

Thanks for your review, we're so glad you had a great time at the house.
An excellent property for a multi generational family holiday. Perfect for 3 couples plus youngsters. Very spacious with two large lounges. Good sized pool (12m) that allows you to do proper swimming. Air conditioning not used much but was quiet and effective for our stay.A very quiet location. Great outlook over the cornfields. Very little passing traffic. Nearest shops about 10 mins drive away (small supermarket that has everything you might need). Lots of vinyards very close by. Plenty of shaded parking for cars and lock up barn for bikes etc.Nearest EV charger (50kW) about 6 mins drive away, plus other slow chargers in villages.

Thank you for your lovely review of our farmhouse. We're so glad that you had a lovely time there. We look forward to welcoming you back for another visit.
Our stay was just what we needed. It had been a few years since all of my family were able to get away on holiday and this villa and location was just perfect. The peace and tranquillity of La Roche was amazing and the facilities enhanced our stay. We would love to return at a later date.
The house is perfect as a home from home. The location is private, set in the countryside surrounded by vineyards and Sunflower fields. Only a short drive away is the beautiful town of Eymet and also Bergerac. The house has lots of space and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need for meal preparation. There are two living rooms, one upstairs, one downstairs! There is air conditioning in the upstairs bedrooms and living room. The pool is well maintained and has a beautiful outlook being at the rear of the property. The pool also illuminated by underwater LED lights and really is perfect for a family holiday. Communication with the owners and the House Manager was excellent. We would definitely consider retuning to this wonderful house.

Hi Patrick,
So glad to hear that you had a great holiday at La Roche.
We're sorry to hear that some of the cooking pans needed replacement, but thank you for telling us. Usually our pre season check would have picked that up but with Covid we haven't been able to visit the house. We've organised with our house manager for any old pans to be replaced immediately.

Overall a very enjoyable experience. Accommodations were extremely comfortable. The bathrooms were exemplary. The pool was delightful. The only improvements we would suggest would be better knives for food preparation as we mainly cooked dinners at home and screens on the windows which would allow one to take advantage of the fresh air without inviting in insects.
We all had a great holiday, the location is spectacular with lots of great chateau's to visit and local medieval towns. Plus the added bonus of a wonderful walk through french countryside from the doorstep. The owners were excellent and great with communication for both booking the holiday and information regarding our trip. The children loved it, the dogs had a ball and adults enjoyed it even more! A wonderful holiday for all.

Great for a peaceful family getaway.
The property seems to improve each time we come out to stay - the latest addition being air conditioning - very useful for sleeping as it was very warm when we stayed!
WiFi, TV and pool ensure the kids are happy.
A well equipped kitchen makes preparing meals easy.
Lovely area, with so much character and plenty to see and do.
Or just lounge by the pool and enjoy the quiet...!!

About the host
Hosted by Tim & Jenny Warren
We fell in love with France in the early 1990s, when work brought us to live here for a while. After moving back to the UK, we spent lots of holidays in France with our children ... and then in 2000 we found La Roche, and fell in love with that, too.
Why they chose this property
We love the peace of the countryside here, sitting by the pool with a glass of wine watching the sun go down - what could be better!
What makes this property unique
You can sit in the garden and see nothing but the open fields and trees that surround the house; it's the most peaceful and relaxing place we know. And it might sound odd, but one of the things we absolutely love about La Roche is sitting safe and dry under the porch on a beautifully warm summer's evening and watching the rain! We know from guests' comments that we're not alone in this....
