About this property
Luxury accommodation - King size beds - stunning views - 5mins to Oberon
Welcome to Hickory Moon. This is not shared accommodation and we only allow one booking at a time. Whilst we do have a minimum 2 night stay there are times we can accommodate a single night stay. Please message me for availability of single night stays.
Prices start from $300 per couple. Hickory Moon is the perfect spot for a luxurious romantic stay. With two luxurious bedrooms the house comfortably accommodates 4 adults.
If you are looking for peace and quiet and a great getaway spot to enjoy with family or friends Congratulations….you have found it at Hickory Moon.
The kitchen is fully equipped with quality cookware and utensils, wine glasses, crockery, cutlery and basics such as olive oil, salt and pepper, coffee, tea and sugar,
There are two smart TVs. One in the open plan living area and one in the Eastern bedroom.
All linen (bedding, doonas, towels and tea towels) is supplied.
There are two bedrooms, both with king size beds and cast-iron baths situated to take advantage of the spectacular views. Both bedrooms have their own en-suite and the Eastern bedroom has the extra luxury of a double shower.
There is a third bathroom for use by daytime visitors.
The house does not have any steps.
We have a fully equipped laundry with a washing machine, dryer and a clothesline.
There is an outdoor BBQ area and this too, is situated facing the breathtaking views to the north.
The bedrooms and the living room all face north and the huge glass windows in each room means guests never miss an opportunity to gaze at the mesmerizing and picturesque views.
In the living room you can sink into the soft and luxurious leather lounge or get cosy on one of the two large snuggle chairs. Settle in at night with a wine, turn all the lights off and gaze at the twinkling lights of Bathurst to the West. Take full advantage of the lack of light pollution and look up and marvel at the Milky Way. There are books in the bookcase that are now looking for new homes so pick one up and wander outside to one of the Adirondack chairs and settle in for a relaxing read.
If the winter snow hits and you can’t get outside there are board games to play.
We have everything you need to enjoy your stay including, as one guest commented ‘the freshest air in Australia”.
Hickory Moon was constructed during 2018 and is located 1175m above sea level which means in winter we get snow. Sometimes we get falls so heavy the roads will not be trafficable and you may have to stay an extra night/s. If this does happen, we will not charge you for the extra night/s. It is not common to be ‘snowed in’ for more than a day or so.
The Oberon area boasts many attractions including Jenolan Caves, Kanangra Walls, and Mayfield garden it…even if you are not into gardening Mayfield is not to be missed! There are plenty of lovely tourist drives to take and villages including Rockley, Tarana and O’Connell, with excellent pubs for lunch or dinner. Further afield you have Leura and Katoomba an hour to the East, Lithgow and Bathurst just 45 minutes away. Taralga to the South and Orange and Millthorpe to the West, are great to visit for a day trip.
There are a variety of dining options from the café at Mayfield, the two local pubs, the RSL club, an excellent Chinese restaurant and various other local eateries in Oberon. The two supermarkets in Oberon are well equipped if you want supplies to cook your own feast at Hickory Moon.
Guests have exclusive use of the house, however use of the bedrooms and en-suites is restricted depending on the number of beds you require.

About the host
Hosted by Maxine Whittaker

When our daughter decided to get married we searched for a nice place in the area for her guests to stay and for the newlyweds to spend their wedding night. We struggled to find exactly what we were after so we decided to build our own house. Our daughter was married in our garden just 20 metres from Hickory Moon. Unfortunalely Hickory Moon was not finished in time for her wedding, but it is finished now and we look forward to welcoming guests from all corners of the world to enjoy our beautiful house and the amazing scenery. It's big sky country up here and it is breathtaking.
Why they chose this property
We are located in a rural area yet we are just 5 minutes drive into Oberon. Hickory Moon is a peaceful place, you can do as little as you like and you may well find that you have lost an hour or two just looking at the view or watching the wedge-tailed eagles circling overhead. At night you can turn all the lights off and watch the twinkling lights of Bathurst in the distance or look upwards and marvel at the Milky Way. The house is totally private and designed to be your little piece of heaven.
What makes this property unique
Hickory Moon is built with an industrial vibe. We had to have a beam across the roof to comply with snow loading and on closer inspection the Council decided we needed two beams instead of one. So we made the second beam a bit of a feature however we do hope it does not detract from the view.
