"Hidden Gem" On Smith Lake

Welcome to "Hidden Gem" on Smith Lake. A mountain lovin' girl married to a lake lovin' boy found the perfect home to fit both of our loves. Hidden Gem provides guests the feeling of being nestled in a mountain cabin retreat while being located on beautiful Smith Lake. Our home has brought many Woosah (defi: tell someone to calm down and relax) moments for us that we would like to extend to you.
This cabin is our family's vacation spot, but we would love to share with others when we are not there. Hidden Gem is a 3 bedroom 2 bath log cabin nestled in a cove located on the main channel in the central part of the lake. It is perfect for families with small children who want a secluded spot to swim or fish without worrying about boat traffic. The home is located just minutes from Duncan Marina (where boat rentals are available).
The upstairs loft boasts a fantastic owners suite with a queen size bed, private bath with a spa inspired shower and relaxing sitting area with large flat screen TV, DVD player, and Wii play station. Downstairs hosts the remaining two bedrooms, bathroom, living room, and kitchen and dining area. Bedroom 1 consists of a queen size bed and has a TV and DVD player. Bedroom 2 has two full/ twin bunk beds, full size washer and dryer are located in this room. The living room has all leather furniture, flat screen TV, DVD player. There is a large video library available for your viewing enjoyment.
The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, including a gas stove, fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. There are also utensils and spices available for the avid cookers who like to whip up delicious meals! A charcoal grill is available for the grill masters as well.
In addition to lake access from our 10 X10 swim pier, our home is located across the street from the neighborhood rec area that has a tennis court, basketball court, and football/soccer field. We do offer the use of any equipment we have (soccer ball, tennis racquets and balls, basketball, archery equipment) for our guest to use during their stay.
The neighborhood boat launch is located just over 1/2 mile from our home and there is space available to store you trailer at the house.
The outside of the house has a sloping walk way down to the swim pier. We offer a canoe, paddle board and aqua lily pad for guest to use for their enjoyment while here. There is a large fire pit for you to huddle around during the cool fall evenings and make s'mores or just enjoy some music from the outdoor speaker available. Or you might just want to enjoy some quiet reading time in the hammock that overlooks the lake. During chilly winter months you may just want to cozy up around the wood burning stove in the living room with a book or movie. The relaxing options are endless!
This home has been a wonderful place for our family to relax and reconnect, we hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have. We look forward to having you as guest in our home and sharing in your own Woosah moments!

The cabin itself was perfect for a girl's weekend. However, the lake was already VERY low, so we could not access the water at all, which was disappointing. The listing does say the water will be low late fall and through the winter, but it doesn't specify you won't be able to access the dock at all. The most disappointing aspect for us, though, was that the thermostat was set to 85 when we arrived Friday afternoon. It took overnight for the cabin to cool down, and it was sweltering for the first few hours. There were also a couple of dead bugs in the floor, so maybe it wasn't cleaned since the last guests stayed there. It would be nice to have it refreshed before you arrive though, and set the thermostat on a more reasonable temp the afternoon of, or even day before, guests arrive. A/C is a necessity in Alabama - even in late September!

Great cabin!

My wife and 2 kids loved our stay here at this beautiful cabin and lake. The cabin is even better in person than in pictures. We took full advantage of all it had to offer including the lake, canoe, fire pit and recreation center while here. We can't wait to come back again soon.

Perfect vacation home

The hidden gem was the perfect home for our family. The house has everything we needed for entertainment and cooking. The marina was super close where we launched our friends boat a few days. We will be repeat customers! The neighborhood was also a highlight for our dogs with the park across the street.

Great getaway!

We enjoyed our visit to Hidden Gem. The house had everything we needed and was so cozy and comfortable. Our 8 year old loved the playground area. We enjoyed ringing in the new year with the fireworks around the lake.

We we not able to use the dock, or even access the water. We could not canoe, fish, use the lilypad or swim, because there was no way to access the dock. The floating bridge in the middle was too steep. Dont plan on using the hammock, its moldy. They had forgotten to put the ladder in that they have for this purpose. I was told a day before leaving that it could be put out on our checkout day. I let them know we were very disappointed, this was my birthday trip, and I had my heart set on fishing and canoeing. I got no response. The cabin is wonderful and clean, but getting to the water is dangerous even if they do provide a ladder. The bed upstairs needs replaced. The shower upstairs is great though. My first trip to Smith Lake and I could barely see the nice clear water. This was the first week of September, and the water was extremely low.

Beautiful Cabin

Beautiful Cabin in peaceful secluded area with easy access to town. The owners were quick to respnd to our questions. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need. The owners have thought of everything you could need from indoor to outdoor activities and then some. This is the perfect place to stay, play and relax.

Great place

The property is beautiful! The pictures don’t do this cabin justice. We stayed in January so we didn’t do anything on the lake. The board games were fun as well as the outdoor games they had. We had 5 adults, one being our 18 year old daughter, and 3 kids aged 12, 10, and 6 and we had more than enough space!

Smith Lake Sojourn

Overall, we were quite pleased. Our host was very accommodating and responsive. The property was clean and generally well-equipped, nicely furnished and comfortable. Access to the shore was easy compared to some other Smith Lake accommodations we have rented. Most unusual was a rare Chuck Will's Widow (cousin to a whippoorwill) calling close by both nights -- verified by the Merlin app.

Fantastic getaway!

The cabin is very nice and super-clean. The host takes care of every little detail and even provides a notebook of information of where to find what you need as far as groceries, food, etc. My 9-year-old grandson referred to this not as a log cabin, but as a "log mansion." The cabin is spacious, warmly decorated, and is more than comfortable. I think you could just move in and live here as EVERYTHING you could need is available. IMHO, I think this is important to the host. The last night it started to rain... no problem. We hung out on the porch, turned on the patio "mood" lights, listened to the thunder for a while while finding out what was on my grandkids' mind. There is also an ample supply of board games to play at the family-sized table in the dining room. Down at the water, there is a canoe and paddles available. Neither of my grandsons had been on a canoe, so getting them out on the water with their Dad was very special. We hired a bass-fishing boat, and he picked us up at the cabin's dock. Got a couple big bass :) One note...not at all a complaint, but a heads-up... like most of the lakefront properties in the area, getting down to the water from the cabin can be a challenge as the path is steep and would be a daunting for anyone with mobility challenges. A fantastic experience with an owner who makes you feel welcome and knows how to treat guests :) Haley... Thanks! I hope we get to come back. I could not be happier with this stay.

We recommend “Hidden Gem” for sure. We had 5 adults, a 17 yr old and 9 and 10 yr old. It is supplied with many extras such as spices, etc and most any kitchen item and appliance you could ask for! We enjoyed the water (even in October) with their canoe, life jackets and paddle boards. Great bedding and communication. Camp fire was great for evening talks and s’mores!
