About this property

Rockmere Inn: USA 250 Years - Stay in Historic Cozy Harbor Home & Town!

Want a uniquely Witch City Experience? Stay with us and enjoy special pricing for a group psychic reading or seance.

Nestled in the heart of historic old town Marblehead, Rockmere Inn is a 1-minute walk to boutiques and restaurants, a 5-minute walk to Marblehead's famous harbor, and amidst a lovely stroll in the historic village. Wander along the streets of Marblehead and be transported back to colonial times.

Rockmere Inn harkens back to a time when travelers returned home with wares from long global jaunts. Each piece tells a story. Visitors are embraced by the wares of a global traveler juxtaposed with items that celebrate Marblehead’s seafaring and revolutionary history.

A visit to Rockmere Inn showcases the creativity of local builders, as the unique home traverses the rock ledge that connects Washington St to Mechanic St. As the home meanders up the ledge, each living space is presented as a separate level. Three of the separate levels provide a bedroom suite. The other levels provide the expansive living spaces.

If you want an elegantly appointed, spacious accommodation, Rockmere Inn is the place for you. Guest note: as is typical with many colonial era homes: stairways can be narrow and steep; floors slope. In particular with the home's unique design traversing a ledge, Rockmere Inn has 6 levels.

As one enters Rockmere Inn from the Mechanic St entrance, the guest is greeted by an entertainer’s dining room with a table that easily accommodates 12. A work space and a comfortable seating area overlook the garden. Hidden behind antique pumpkin pine doors are a coat closet, laundry, and a bar with beverage refrigerator.

Central to the dining room is an original, now decorative, fireplace and the 300-year-old barn door that leads to the gourmet kitchen. The kitchen provides seating for 8 and another gorgeous view of the private patio and garden.

Returning through the dining room, one descends to the massive living room decorated with an international traveler’s flair. The living room easily accommodates 14 with various conversation spaces sprinkled around the room.

Descend to another level, and one enters the Captain’s Quarter. This guest suite features custom paneling and cabinetry by the renowned custom yacht builder, Bruce Dyson. Visitors feel like they’ve entered the quarters of a luxury yacht, with a center mast and surrounded by hand-crafted mahogany cabinets, wet bar, and private bath. The captain’s quarters can be used as another living space or private sleeping quarters with a separate entrance to Washington St.

Returning to the dining room level, one ascends just 3 steps to the master bedroom level. The large master bedroom is elegantly furnished with a king-sized bed, nestled between 2 bedside tables with lamps, a writing desk, decorative fireplace, seating, TV, walk-in closet, and full bathroom.

From the master bedroom level, ascend another set of stairs to another bedroom suite level. The large bedroom is elegantly furnished with a king-sized bed, nestled between 2 bedside tables with lamps, seating, TV, walk-in closet, and 3/4 bathroom.

Finally, take the last 3 steps up to the crew’s quarters which accommodates 4 guests in 2 daybeds with trundles, 2 seating areas, built in dresser drawers, and walk-in closet. The crew’s quarters share the ¾ bath.

About Marblehead

Founded in 1629, Marblehead was a crucial fishing port during the American Revolution; much of its history can be discovered by navigating through the colorful, narrow streets of Old Town. Like an open-air museum, Marblehead flaunts its history not only in its well-preserved 18th-century houses and architecture, national historic landmarks and local shops are sprinkled throughout the town.

After meandering amongst the quaint Colonial houses, take a tour through Marblehead Neck, which leads to the lighthouse. Marvel at the breathtaking views of Marblehead Harbor, birthplace of the US Navy, & a major sailing capital.

Marblehead’s most popular beach, Devereux, has plenty of picnic tables, playgrounds, and on-site restrooms. Gas House Beach is on Little Harbor. With a rocky shore and small boats anchored in tranquil, shallow water, the scene at Gas House is perfectly New England. Active visitors can enjoy a paddle at King’s Beach with views of Boston.

This home is in the cutest town of Marblehead. Walkable to all the shops and restaurants in town. Perfect for big groups! Old home with lots of character. We stayed here and ubered into Salem in October. It was perfect to be outside Salem but in another quaint town.

Rockmere Inn

Just spent the week at Rockmere Inn, Marblehead. It was a charming house in a beautiful town. Lots of activities for the Fourth of July even though the fireworks were canceled due to a fire. The entertainment in the park was fabulous. Looking forward to visiting again.

Wonderful historic property!

This home was built in early 1700’s so the history and charm are infiltrated into every aspect of this home! That being said it’s not suitable for those who need ADA accessibility or any mobility concerns. It was a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of towels and pillows for all 10 of us.

Wonderful location with lots of room

I think the other reviews for this house are pretty accurate. It's a very old house, full of antiques so is a bit dusty, smells of mold a bit, and is weird with a lot of funky stairs and strange things like needing instructions to use the oven and to find light switches behind wall panels. However, it fit our group of 8 people nicely and the location in Marblehead can't be beat. Parking was much less of a problem than we expected it to be and we probably didn't need the second parking pass that we paid for, but I'd imagine that week of July 4 or during snow it would be good to have.

Pleasant stay

House was nice and kept up. As expected with a house this old the stairs were a little steep and narrow.

Rockmere was everything you saw in the pictures. There are some things you may want to know before you go.We arrived after dark and did not find the house at first. It is surrounded by a fence. You do climb several steps to get from the street to the house. This home was built in the 1700’s so don’t expect all the modern amenities. You enter the home and will see the dining room and kitchen. You will go up four steps to first bedroom/bath. Then climb more steps to the second bedroom/bath. The bedroom with the twin beds is the top level of the home. There are two narrow, winding flights going down to the sitting room and Captain’s Quarters. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of Rockmere, so we did not use the kitchen. We also felt safe walking back from the restaurants at night. We are 4 women, ages 72-80, and we did just fine. We loved the uniqueness of the house.

Girls weekend

The house was great for our weekend stay! The check in process was super easy and property is in a great location. House was spacious and comfortable for 10 adults. The pictures of the captains quarters do not do it justice! Property was unique and quirky, and was as described. We would love to stay here again.

The house was very interesting. However I wasn’t aware that there were so many steps, both inside and outside. Although I am pretty mobile, I am 85 and I have some balance issues. The outside stone steps were particularly treacherous and my children insisted that I never go down them without help. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay for the three nights we were there. I don’t think it would serve us for a longer visit.

Great location, lots of stairs

We had a great time & the house is a 200-year old wonder! However, we had several senior citizens with us & would have booked elsewhere if we knew about the amount and steepness of stairs indoors & outdoors

Beautiful Historic Home

This house was wonderful. It is very old and filled with historic charm. I’m a huge history, buff, so I loved it. We had a group of women staying here for a trip to Salem for my daughter’s 16th birthday. The neighborhood is nice and peaceful. There’s only one parking spot, so if you have multiple cars, you have to find parking on the streets. I loved the very large dining room table that fit at least 10 people. I would stay here again.

Unique stay

We stayed in this house for a couple days. It's a very old home that is located on a hill. There is a lot of room in this home and has some quirks to it because of how old it is. There are 5 levels to this home which I was not expecting. A few things like windows and doors were not working properly which the owners were made aware of. The house is located in a great spot, close to shops in marblehead and about 15 minutes from Salem. If you are looking for a true marblehead experience you have come to the right place.

We had a wonderful time!!!

This house was so cool, funky, and perfect for what we needed for a family gathering. Marblehead is beautiful this time of year, and we had so much fun exploring the town. The house is perfect for walking, we were able to take our kiddos on many fun walks to the water, to the cafes, and just to look around at all the fun Halloween decorations. We all had our own space, but also had nice places to gather as a larger group. We were all comfortable and happy, and the owners were very responsive to our requests (help with parking, etc.) We want to come back again as soon as possible! Thanks for a great stay.

Incredible house

If walls could talk, this house would have a lot to tell. The history of this house is amazing. The house is just as it is listed on the site. There are no surprises. It's walking distance to Fort Seawall, parks, shopping and several restaurants and coffee shops. You must try Mookies for coffee and breakfast.....it's just around the corner. I just can't say enough great things about this house and this area. You won't be disappointed.
