I did a long-term rental for 3 months that allowed me to find a permanent home in this area. I was relocating from the great North Tundra and needed a place that was safe and comfortable.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Gary's house and was more than surprised that he has the house fully furnished with EVERYTHING you need - including fully stocked paper towels, all cleaning supplies, bathroom soaps, etc. I've rented other places and never had these supplies furnished.
As far as the location, you couldn't ask for more - it is within the gated Sandestin Golf & Resort community which is beautiful and has 3 great public golf courses. I played there often and my favorite course was Raven.
If you want to go to the beach, the house has all you need to throw everything in the car - beach chairs and umbrellas, even a rolling cooler.
The house can sleep 14 people in beds (excluding the roll out in the main living space), so this is a perfect place for large golf groups or family reunions/get togethers. The only word of caution I would give is there is only 1 bedroom on the main floor, the rest are up on the 2nd and 3rd floors (19 stairs each flight). I had senior guests that never would have been able to stay if not for the first floor bedroom. However, the first floor bedroom worked out perfectly because there is a full bath on the 1st floor as well.
In addition, Gary was incredibly responsive the couple of times I needed to reach him and was more than a wonderful host.
Sandestin Beach Resort a very nice vacation community
This was my first time renting a condo for a 4 family vacation so I have no comparison for my review. I don’t want to be over critical just report my experience. Overall it was a great experience but it was not without some problems. We had 4 rooms with 3 bathrooms and all the usual condo amenities. Depending on your situation I would recommend 4 bathrooms. We also had problems with the dryer. It was old and too small for 4 families and had to run small loads or it would overheat. The grill out back was a nice Weber unit but was left filthy and out of propane due to a loose hose. A spare tank was available. We only had 1 brand tv remote out of 5 TVs so we could not access such things as Netflix or YouTube on the smart TVs. We had Cox tv/internet service and 2 of the remotes had to be programmed for the TVs. I was able to call them and correct. I was informed that a free internet upgrade was available which I reported to the owner. We were getting only 30 meg internet speed and router location was not optimized. In general the condo felt comfortable but well lived in. Furniture was well worn but functional. The condo was “clean” but the cleaning crew needs to do a better job of dusting. All of the door and window blinds had broken bottom clips and were “free swinging” when opened. One of the blinds above a window fell off when trying to adjust and another had a broken string that adjusts the tilt. Most of these things are minor but a sign that this property is in need of updating and upgrading.
I appreciate my Guest's observations and would like to respond:
"4 rooms 3 bathrooms" - My website clearly states 3 full baths.
"Problems with dryer" - Guest called me and said he was drying towels and the dryer stopped. I suggested he had probably overloaded it and to try reducing the load. I scheduled an appliance repair person to be there in the next couple of hours. In the interim guest called back and said it was working after reducing the load as I had suggested. I have a stacked washer and dryer designed for a condo/townhome that is not designed to wash the full array of clothes for 4 families (10) people.
"Grill outside nice but dirty" I have no idea which guests use the grill and how much propane they use so I try and have 2 full tanks at the beginning of the busy summer rental period. As for cleaning I clean my grill much like I do my self cleaning oven. Turn the grill on high for about 10 minutes - temp about 900 degrees - it will burn everything to ash on the grates.
"One brand remote for 5 tv's etc" - All TV's have the remote given to me by the cable co and easily accesses the channels provided. Evidently my Guest wanted to do much more than watch local cable TV ie Netflix, YouTube on Smart TV's I am not sure what a Smart TV is so I will consult my Marine son at the nearby Eaglin Air base.
"Internet not very fast, modem and wifi not in optimized locations" - Once again I will consult my son not really sure about all of the technology issues raised by my Guest that no other Guest have raised.
"furniture worn but functional" - I try and get upholstery cleaned in between guest when my cleaning crew tells me that there are sun tan lotion residue on the couches chairs etc. but am not always able to do so.
"home clean needs dusting" - I will consult my cleaning crew
"all of the door and window blinds had broken clips at the bottom" I don't permanently secure my window blinds or door blinds at the bottom for the simple reason you can't raise and lower the blinds should the guest want to have an unobstructed view of the lake and bay views from my home and not have to try and look through louvered blinds.
"broken string - blind came loose" - Will address this issue on next cleaning

Good value for large families and pet owners
After staying in the townhome for a week in June, our group enjoyed our stay and found...
Positives: The owner was friendly and made us feel welcome via email and phone call. The beds and linens were clean and comfortable. The townhome was spacious, secure, and bright. Parking at the door was convenient. The location was an easy drive to restaurants, shopping, and a beautiful but usually crowded private beach. There was green space directly outside for our small dogs. Except for the lawn maintenance team a few mornings (not too early), the home was quiet and peaceful. The pool was a short walk away and never crowded. The wharf area was awesome! I felt overall the townhome was a good fit for our large family and a good value.
Cons: There were only a couple of minor things to mention here, and wouldn’t have changed our decision to rent the home. First, we found the tram to the beach to be inconsistent and not reliable. We used it (or tried to) a couple of times our first two days and decided the wait was not worth it. Second, even though the home was quite clean where it counted most (beds, baths), it seemed to be due for a deep cleaning and dusting in other areas. However, the fact that they allow fur babies made this understandable and forgivable.
I recommend this rental for large families and those traveling with dogs. Even though it’s not waterfront, it’s peaceful, a good value, and a short, easy drive to the beach and many other activities.
Over 8 miles of Biking/Running trails that run throughout the Resort, Golf (4 courses), Tennis (8 courts - clay/grass), Fully equipped Fitness Center, Full Service Salon (massage, facials, pedicures etc), Arcades My home is located just minutes from one of the largest Outlet Malls in the Panhandle of Florida. SilverSands outlet mall has over 300 brand name stores. I am also located just minutes from the Beach with access by SandTram shuttle service outside my front door and all the activities on the Resort which includes a full service Marina that has jet-skis, para-sailing, kayaking, canoeing, sunset dinner cruises aboard the Solaris, nature hikes for the kids and dolphin watching just to name a few 'water' activities. Also the WHARF which is a self contained New Orleans style venue which has all kinds of specialty shops and entertainment for all age groups. Ie night clubs, comedy clubs fine dinning and casual dining as well as an ice skating rink, bungee jumping, movies in the park, clown and magic shows for the kids, Carousels (race cars, dragons, etc) Blast arcade and Laser Maze (4,000 sq ft fun zone) Euro Bungee (bungee cords and trampolines) Coconut climb, Zip-line etc

I vacationed in Sandestin for the first time in 1995 and absolutley loved it. I stayed in a friend of mines home for several years and then decided to buy myself. I like the fact that you can do anything that you want to do without leaving the Resort. It is truely a self-contained City within the confines of Destin.
What makes this Townhouse unique
As you can see from the aerial photo, my home is secluded from the hub of action although I am no more than a mile from the beach or any other activities offered on the Resort. There is very little vehicle traffic since my homes location dead ends into the Bay. At night just steps away you can see one of the most beautiful sunsets out on the point and often times see groups of Dolphins making their way through waters right off of Vantage Point. There is also superb fishing right outside my back door with up to 6lb fish (bass) caught. If you really want to fish, just go out into the Bay that is only 90 yds from back door and try and land the red snappers or other big time game fish
