The Wren’s Nest Carriage house is a fantastic site for a couple or also a couple with a guest. The architecture & renovation of this historical building has been carefully planned & executed. You should feel comfortable & rested during your visit.
Ellen was very welcoming and her historic home is lovely and well maintained. The home has everything you need for a comfortable vacation. We enjoyed the charming town of Beaufort. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
This is a wonderful property! Ellen is a fantastic house with great communication and hospitality. It is in a perfect location to be able to walk everywhere and enjoy all the beautiful historical homes and restaurants. It has every amenity that you need with a great kitchen area and spacious Interior. Our favorite was the gorgeous port with rocking chairs where we had coffee each morning and cocktails in the evening. Very private yet close to it all! I highly recommend this great property!

This was our second time staying here, and once again it was lovely. Spotlessly clean, charming and well fitted out with all we could need. Perfect location in the historic district - within a short walking distance of Bay Street and other spots. The porch is delightful for sitting out in the cool of the mornings! Highly recommend!
Thank you Ellen for a fantastic stay. We choose it for the location in the heart of the walkable historic district. We loved the gracious porch and your warm southern hospitality. The decor was beautiful, the beds were comfy, and the little kitchenette was well appointed. We had a great stay!

About the host
Hosted by Ellen and Mike Tomy
Mike Tomy is an award winning architect and Ellen has been painting portraits for over 20 years. They are both retired. The main house and the carriage house that sits near were renovated in 2015. Vacations from Atlanta down to Beaufort every summer to visit family, we bought this property because of our love for architecture, history and Beaufort itself. Ellen's family roots are in South Carolina so it is like coming home to stay.
Why they chose this property
The carriage house has wonderful views of historic homes. The trees somewhat block the view of the water, but it is just a block away. Park the car and walk to museums, restaurants, shops, marina and art galleries. Or take a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets of beautiful historic district. Go for a drive to Hunting beach and climb the lighthouse. Stop in the colorful shops and road side vegetable stands along the way.
What makes this property unique
The Carriage House on Craven, central to all that is happening in Beaufort has a separate unit downstairs (property 742825) if one has a large party and all want to stay in one place. During the many yearly festivals parking is not easy to find in town. Just stay at the carriage house, leave the car and the festivals are a block away. Meander through one-of-a-kind locally owned shops on Bay Street and enjoy fabulous seafood in Beaufort's unique restaurants. If you don't want to eat out, a fully equipped kitchen is ready for you.
