About this property

Secluded family friendly oasis on 15 acres

Wind down and escape to a peaceful and beautiful country experience! Drive up a long driveway and you will arrive with no other houses in sight and surrounded by trees and mountains in every direction of the 15 acres with a apple/pear orchard and a pond on the property. Relax and take in the nature all around you.

Enjoy the spacious chalet-like open plan layout with cathedral ceilings and 4 bedrooms in a 3000 Sq ft house with 3 floors built by a renowned local builder in 2010.

The main floor has a double height ceiling living room with fireplace with an open kitchen and dining room all seamlessly connected and open to each other. There are 2 bedrooms across from each other and a full bath on the 1st floor.

Walk up the stairway and to the right is an oversized master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with a tub as well as a walk in granite shower. Down the hall to the left is the library loft that is open to the living room downstairs with lounge chairs and plenty of books to read. All the rooms upstairs have beautiful pond and mountain views.

On the lower floor there is a media room where you can gather to watch TV or play pool or chess, and for the kids there is a separate play area. The 4th bedroom is also on the lower floor, as well as a full bath with standing shower.

The house is 2 hours from NYC, 15 minutes to Hudson, 25 minutes to Great Barrington.

Lovely Berkshires getaway

What an absolutely wonderful stay! This large, perfectly secluded and private location was ideal for our family reunion, and was a brilliant home base for a magical weekend. We took in music at Tanglewood (Yo-Yo Ma), dined out nearby in Hudson and Great Barrington, and attended track days at Lime Rock Park. While we packed our many usual household items along we needn't have at all, as the kitchen, pantry, and linen closets were remarkably well stocked for a comfortable, cozy, home-like stay. The comfortable living room, upstairs library, modern A/C units, Sonos speakers and ample washer/dryer were a hit with the adults, while the basement play area (complete with magna-tiles, children's reading nook and pool table) was great for the kids. We dined both indoors and out, with the patio lounge/dining area particularly enjoyable for watching the sunset. Whenever there were questions, Derek (host) was quick to offer a hand. This property made for a memorable summer stay, and we look forward to returning to Hillsdale.

Beautiful home on a wonderful property

I stayed here for a week with my extended family, including two small kids, and we had a wonderful time. The property is absolutely gorgeous - we enjoyed the view of the pond, the summer sunsets, and all the wildlife. We spent a lot of time eating on the back deck and making s'mores at the firepit. My kids had a great time playing in the downstairs playroom, on the trampoline, and on the swingset. The house is clean and organized and very comfortable. Highly recommend!

Wonderful stay in the NY Berkshires

We had a wonderful stay at this property. First of all, in addition to providing a lovely getaway to adults, with a lovely master Bedroom and bathroom, it is extremely family friendly woth a playroom, a swingset and a trampoline. It is also well located near many things to say and do and his midway between Hudson and great Barrington.

Perfect Weekend Getaway

Derek and Sue’s house is beautiful, spacious and clean! My fiancé and I hosted our siblings there for a weekend, and we had an absolute blast! Although Derek and Sue provided an incredibly detailed list of things to do, restaurants, bars, etc...we found ourselves never wanting to leave the house! It felt “homey” while still feeling like we were on vacation. Wonderful spaces on the main floor and downstairs for gathering bigger groups. It’s a little farther outside of Hudson than we anticipated, but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the area! Derek was extremely helpful throughout the process! We would definitely recommend a stay there and would love to return...maybe in the warmer months next time so we can make the most of their great deck and fire pit! Thanks Derek and Sue!

The Hillsdale Rustic Getaway House is the perfect home for a Columbia County getaway.

The pictures do not do this property justice. It is wonderfully charming and immaculately kept. A true gem.

Beautiful property, great for groups

Had a lovely stay here with three other couples in early fall. House was very spacious, clean, and well-appointed, kitchen was great for cooking, and the outdoor space was wonderful, especially the fire pit at night. Located a 10-15 minute drive from the town of Hillsdale, which has a supermarket and other shops, and about 20 minutes from Hudson, with lots of options for eating, shopping, etc. Climate control inside was also very modern - would highly recommend for a getaway during any season.

Open expansive grounds, but still nicely secluded!

A perfect place for a relaxing few days. Spacious, clean and comfortable accommodation inside, looking out over a field, meadow, woodlands... and a pond with many frogs. Large deck for outside dining and a great outdoor fire cauldron beyond that. Separate comfortable bedroom areas on all three floors. Owners Derek and Sue are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Best to have a car at your disposal, to enjoy all the nice countryside around, including the Hudson River to the west. Many farms are open to the public to the north, like Love Apple, along with ART OMI, where you hike for miles among amazing outside artwork. There are key art sites to the south as well - Fredric Church's Olana house, wonderfully preserved from the 19th century, and across the Rip Van Winkle bridge (well worth walking on for the fabulous views) there's the Frank Church site. A few miles to the east there's a brilliant farm-to-table restaurant, in Philmont - Local 111. They give a cheerful welcome to all, including babies, and have lots of creative and delicious menu selections, that bring out the best flavors that come with fresh food. It's relatively small, so best to make a reservation! Philmont also has a fun short waterfall hike nearby. We all highly recommend this home for a small gathering of family and friends. There's plenty of room and ways to relax just around the home itself, and lots of great places to go that are less than half an hour's drive away. We hope to return soon!

Tranquil Get Away

This property was amazing!!! Every bit as beautiful, clean, and spacious as the pictures on the site (if not more!). The home and the grounds were lovely and inviting. The owners were welcoming, accommodating, and extremely easy to communicate with. We enjoyed the gourmet kitchen, family game time, the outdoor fire pit, the spacious deck , and a quick hike to the High Falls. Easy access to the highway and ,local gas, grocery, and restaurants. Would definitely rent again!

Elegant, spacious oasis.

I rented this property for a family visit upstate this summer and was delighted by how capacious and well-equipped it turned out to be. Upon initial approach, the property appears tidy and unassuming. But the house's simple facade belies the space within—soaring cathedral main room upon entry, the kind of kitchen we all just wanted to congregate in, open but private backyard, bedrooms upon bedrooms. There was just so much more space than I anticipated, all of it comfortable. Nice linens, tasteful furniture, the kind of blond paneling that glows in the ample sunlight. We enjoyed a couple of those endless summer nights around the firepit while thunderheads and moonlight played off one another in the expansive sky above the property. Down below, lightenbugs hold court. It was heavenly, and our daughter delighted in the well-equipped playroom. Proximity to Hillsdale, Ghent, and Hudson make it ideal for weekend travellers. I want to experience it in winter next time—that fireplace in the big main room must be dreamy.

Lovely April stay near Hudson

Our group of 6 really enjoyed calling this Rustic chic property our home for a few days in April. The owners made us feel the warmth of their hospitality right off the bat with a welcoming gift of local chocolates and wine. The house was very clean, felt spacious. There was ample cookware and kitchen odds and ends, and the bathrooms were well stocked with very nice organic shampoo/conditioner/body wash. The property was gorgeous, we really enjoyed sitting around a roaring campfire to the soothing sounds of peepers by the pond. And it was great to be within about 20min of cool hikes and lots of great restaurants and breweries.

We live in Tribeca and use the house on the weekends - two little kids who love the house as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the town of Hudson, NY where there are amazing restaurants, unique stores and creative people. We searched for a house close by with a lot of space that also felt like a total escape into the country and found our house which is surrounded by 15 acres of fields, woods, and pond! It has become a true getaway for us from the hustle and bustle of the city.

What makes this property unique

The house is also in the heart of Hudson Valley with easy/close access to so many other towns (Red Hook, Ghent, Rhinebeck, Chatham to name a few), farmers markets every Saturday from April to Dec (in Hudson and Hillsdale, equidistant and not sure which is better they are both fantastic), lakes, hiking, nature, the quaint Berkshires towns and Tanglewood, as well as winter activities such as skiing and tubing. The list goes on and on, and we will provide recommendations for every activity!

There have also been many weekends where we were perfectly content staying at home, hanging out on the back porch, bbq'ing, the kids running around in our backyard, throwing rocks in the pond, playing games/pool/chess, relaxing with music playing on Sonos, and ending the day sitting around the fire pit roasting marshmallows.
