What a blessing it was to find this exceptional property. From the moment we arrived, we felt a deep sense of relaxation and connection. Mary is a wonderful host—incredibly warm, responsive, and welcoming from our first in-person greeting. Her home is immaculately clean and well-appointed, surrounded by gorgeous landscaping and spectacular sunset views. The outdoor space is a dream, featuring an expansive pool area and plenty of spots to sit and dine. The real magic, however, was sharing the grounds with her tortoises, hens, and the beautiful butterfly house.

Mary’s house is wonderful! There is plenty of room, the pool area is nice, lots of outdoor seating, and the views go on for miles. The tortoises, butterflies, and chickens just add to the charm. Mary was welcoming and delightful. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Beautiful house and Property

Perfect! Mary is a great host and was very attentive to our requests. We had 4 Generations staying and we had plenty of room. The house is 20-30 minutes away from most San Diego attractions without the feel of being in the hustle and bustle with great views.

Great Family Vacation Spo

This house was a great place for my family vacation with the grandkids. They enjoyed visiting the turtles, butterflies and chickens. Feeding the turtles and gathering chicken eggs everyday was their favorite activity. The pool was also very nice with plenty of seating. Mary was a very responsive hostess and the house has everything a family will need. Thanks Mary, Glen

Jamul paradise

We had an extended stay at Mary's BEAUTIFUL home and loved every single minute! From the tortoises, chickens and butterflies to the wonderful pool, we couldn't get enough!! Miss Mary and Dana were fantastic hosts and became fast new friends. My three girls absolutely loved Miss Mary and tending to all of the animals with her. We have stayed at many VRBO's and this is, by far, the best yet!! Thank you Mary for everything!!!

How great is Mart’s retreat?

It’s fabulous! Both the house and the property was perfect for our purpose. It’s such a lovely, well equipped, spacious house and the outside areas are spacious and beautiful. We enjoyed time entertaining on the pool deck that is decorated with teak furniture and lovely yellow umbrellas. Mary was a dream to both share her home and to work with.

Home away from home

This property is stunning! From the lovely views to the beautiful spacious home to the inviting pool and spa to the fruit trees- oh where to begin? First of all the owners are welcoming and gracious. They made us feel right at home. The house itself is amazing. We had our entire family of 12 with us. We gathered for Thanksgiving, coming from Texas to Alaska. Our ages ranged from 9 months to 79 years. It is a little out of town but the sights of San Diego are easily accessible. And being out of town made this such a quiet relaxing place to spend the week. We couldn’t recommend this wonderful spot more!

Relaxing atmosphere

When I search for a property on vacation I spend hours trying to find the “right one”. There are so many things about this beautiful property that are just right. It’s perched on top of a hill dotted with fruit trees with plenty of privacy. There are plenty of outside areas to gather with your family and friends to share a meal or enjoy the large swimming pool and jacuzzi. Also, if you need a quiet place you can find that too. The house is very roomy. We stayed here with 5 adults and a baby and had an extra bedroom room that wasn’t even used. If you’re looking for the ‘right one’ you may have found it. Enjoy.

Unique Property

This was a multigenerational stay. One person in a wheelchair. Accessibility is good for manual wheelchair. 30 inch door leading to bedroom with a tight turn if Murphy bed is down. En-suite bathroom totally accessible. Everyone visited the butterfly sanctuary many times. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the property. Relaxing gardens, lots of games, toys, the tortoises loved the attention. The pool area is a great gathering place. Unusual to find such a unique property. Really suited us well.

Capturing moments

Dr Seuss reminded us that sometimes we don’t know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. This is definitely a place you can slow down and capture those moments. We recently spent a week with our daughters, and their families at Mary’s Butterfly House. The property is beyond any pictures or written descriptions, and Mary is much more than a gracious host, who ensures your moments count. Every detail of the home and property reflects Mary’s mindfulness allowing you to spend your time relaxing and enjoying the moments you are spending with your family. If you enjoy meals on the veranda, farm fresh eggs, freshly squeezed juice, fresh air, and beautiful sunsets, if you need to take a moment to relax and reset, then this is the place for you.

We had an amazing stay at Mary’s. The house was perfect for our family, with everything we needed. The pool was great, and the kids absolutely loved the animals. Every morning, we had to go say hello to the tortoises as soon as they woke up. The house was conveniently located near the grocery store, and the drive to the zoo was only about 25-30 minutes. We also had plenty of space and privacy. Mary was incredibly accommodating and easy to work with. We had a wonderful time.

Mary's property is perfect for large family gatherings. We were traveling with 8 adults and 5 kids ages 14 all the way down to 6. The kids (and adults!) loved feeding the tortoises, collecting eggs from the coop and swimming of course! Mary was such a gracious host and always responded when we had a question. This property is the perfect distance from San Diego (only about 25/30 minutes) but it feels so remote. The view from her property is gorgeous. We were in the habit of trying to catch the sunset each night especially from her hilltop gazebo. Wonderful property and wonderful host! My kids are still talking about "Miss Mary" :)
