About this property

Gorgeous Mountain Views

This home is nestled high on the side of a mountain at 3900 feet elevation, overlooking a lovely valley and mountain view. Private hiking trails lead from the driveway to the top of the mountain. Enjoy your own personal mountain getaway, close to the Smoky Mountain National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Only a 15 to 20 minute drive to Maggie Valley or to Waynesville. Hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting, fishing, golfing and shopping are close by.

Front wheel drive and 4 wheel drive vehicles are best for navigating our mountain roads due to the steepness in some spots (read the last paragraph for more information).

Furnished 3 bdrm with 2 baths. Sleeps 6 - one queen bed, one double bed, and two twin beds. Full kitchen with appliances and dishware/cookware, dishwasher, electric and propane heat, wood burning fireplace, gas grill, full size washer and dryer, Roku TV (Netflix) and high speed wireless internet. A fire pit for campfires sits behind the cabin.

No pets are allowed. Rental season extends from April thru October each year.

Driving tips: The last half mile leading up to the Solid Rock Hideaway is gravel and moderately steep. Most front-wheel drive vehicles don't have any problem if the driver doesn't drive too slow up the steeper section, but some rear-wheel drive vehicles find they sometimes lose traction on the gravel. All-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive vehicles are ideal. As you are going uphill on the steeper parts of the gravel roads, it helps to keep a steady speed and not stop. If you do find you are losing traction, just stop and back up to a flatter part of the road, and try again. When you are heading back down the steeper parts of the mountain roads, make sure to keep the transmission in a lower gear in order to save wear-and-tear on your breaks.

Beautiful Comfy Place!

We loved our stay here! The house was clean and fully stocked, even with coffee/creamer! The beds were comfortable. Each room was very cozy and decorated. Large rooms, and dining room table to fit everyone. Enjoyed the Mountain View!!! The drive up was pretty steep, I had to back down and re-try a few times; but TOTALLY WORTH IT! Fresh mountain air. Holly was awesome, very easy to contact and she made sure we enjoyed our stay. We will definitely stay here again!

In the clouds ⛅

If you want a vacation where you're away from everyone (but close enough incase you feel like socializing), wake up to a beautiful view to enjoy with your coffee, and need all the amenities you'd have at your own home.... this is the place for you! The view from the master was impeccable. Waking up early on the morning just to sit on the swing enjoy the view and my daily serving of caffeine. There's nothing I'd change about this place. It's a nice quaint spot at the top of the mountains that's perfect for a get away. Please be advised that the entrance is STEEP. If you have a small vehicle and aren't accustom to steep areas like that. Just remember slow and steady wins the race. It's an amazing an affordable place to stay! Definitely recommend.

Just what we wanted and needed

We were looking for an escape from the heat and humidity during the last week of July, and this place delivered -- I don't think the temperature ever got over 70! And the views, surroundings, and property furnishings and condition all exceeded our expectations. A great place to stay.

Feels like home!

This was our third stay at the Solid Rock Hideaway and each time the house has been clean and ready for us. The house is very cozy and has beautiful views. The mountain road up to the house can be exiting but is easily manageable using a little common sense. This is a great place whatever you want to do. This year we hung out at the house a lot and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. But there are many things to do within a short drive if you want an adventure. Holly is great to work with and she keeps you informed of anything you may need to know. The Solid Rock Hideaway has a permanent place in our vacation plans. Its the perfect place if you want to leave the world behind for a few days.

Spring Break Get Away

The property was better than we anticipated. The check in process was simple and easy. Holly responded to every email quickly and gave us useful information. The beds were comfortable and the Master Bath tub was perfect for either a hot shower or a hot soak after a hard day of hiking. The house was immaculate and everything we needed was there. My wife and I hiked The Pinnacle in Slyvan North Carolina. We also had the great experience of seeing beautiful Elk! The trip and accommodations were better than expected and would highly recommend this VRBO property!

Gorgeous views and very clean.

Absolutely beautiful views! The house is roomy and very clean. Holly was there when we got there and communicated quickly by text to respond to questions. Location is quite remote...some gravel roads to get up the mountain. Be aware if you are a “city-slicker.” 😁

Very nice home with magnificent mountain views; everything you need for total relaxation

Views, views, views; very comfortable home with plenty of room for 6 people; back porch was terrific; we spent each morning and evening there; attended family reunion in Maggie Valley and enjoyed the entire surrounding area; will definitely be returning for another visit

A "Peace" of Heaven on Earth

You will realize how blessed you are if you get to experience some time in this wonderful home. The view from the deck especially during the early mornings will help take your mind and spirit to the inner peace you may desire. The home is very comfortable. You feel you are a million miles away yet only 20 minutes to town. Holly is a great hostess. Always willing to help over and beyond what may be expected. If you need to be connected, the internet connection is great. We also made friends with a couple of hummingbirds, who visited us often with the feeder on the deck. We have been away only 5 days and I miss the place already. Thank you Holly.

Wonderful stay

This is all about the location with great views from porch ilving room and lying in master bed. Wake up to glorious sunrise view then out to deck for coffee time. We were looking for a property off to ourselves in the mountains with great beds and super clean. This was the best place for that. Our best trip out was to Catalooche in GSMNP where we were immediately greeted by herd of 19 friendly elk. More elk in Little Catalooche as we exited park to north through Big Creek. Best trip. Took Blue Ridge Parkway --magnificent early morning views to Cherokee Museum , a great museum that ingeniously weaves you through Cherokee history and culture. Up 441 to Oconoluffe Visitor's center and farm museum capped by fun trip up to Clingman's Dome and Newfound Gap at state line in GSMNP. Walked Lake Junaluska each morning. Something different there each day. Malcolm, the swan, sculpture: labyrinth; balld eagle who seems to nest in his own tree; walk across bridge--every view is special. Lunch at The Terrace was good buffet with magnificent views. Great welcome Center on N. Shore Drive close to entry. Visited the friendly staff daily for help with many questions (They have small handout slips with great directions to any pac you ask.) Always love Waynesville. Great shopping , strolling and dining. We had planned some other side trips to the west, but found the cottage drew us back each day--everything you need for a wonderful relaxing time. I celebrated my 84th birthday there. Wish every birthday could be as memorable.

Great place, Gorgeous views, Memorable Holiday

We had a great time and the view was gorgeous. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The firepit was great for the chilly nights, the fireplace in the LR was great for when it was too cold and windy to be outdoors. The trails nearby were perfect for when we wanted to stay close to 'home' but still go out adventuring. We loved the area and would definitely stay there again. Only issues we found were that the grill didn't want to get real hot and the dryer took longer than it should have to dry clothes. Overall it was a great experience and my family loved it.

Amazing view at a reasonable price

The property is dated (1960s?), but of quality construction and very clean. The view from the wraparound porch on comfy furniture with the quiet creek sound below make it especially cozy. We didn’t take advantage of the wood-burning fireplace or the outside fire ring due to warmer temperatures. We loved the high elevation of the property. Kitchen amenities were adequate but recommend replacement of the older china which is NOT microwave safe (can get extremely hot to the touch). Beds were very comfortable and the quiet location had us sleeping soundly with open windows.

Our stay for the month at Solid Rock House July 2017

Our stay at Solid Rock House in July 2017 near Maggie Valley and Johnathan Creek, NC was a most relaxing and opportunity to visit areas in Western North Carolina and North Eastern Tennessee Mountain Region. The view from the deck was amazing in the morning, day and evening; the mountains are so beautiful and the view from Solid Rock is a #10. We have stayed several years in the Cherokee area prior to using VRBO and found the cost for the stay was half what it was in commercial hotels and condos and actually much better and more relaxing. We were also able to take many walks among the clearly marked trails and private roads, which allowed us to stay with our physical routine. Solid Rock is near the many places to visit from Maggie Valley, Cherrokee, Bryson City, Waynesville, Dillsboro, Ashville, NC and Pigeon Forge, New Port, Gatlinburg, Greenville, Jonesborough, Elizabethton and Johnson City, TN. Overall were very pleased with the comfort and amenities of the house; plenty of room, relaxing leather couch and both available TV's in the living room and bedroom; also excellent Internet connection and much thought to have a land line telephone, when our cell phone had no service. I would highly recommend Solid Rock to others interest to get away to a private retreat and be able to visit so many mountain areas.
