CHECK-IN TIME: 4:00 PM CHECK-OUT TIME: 11:00 AM

ADDRESS: 2113 MAIN ST./US ROUTE 62, Winesburg, OH 44690 (for direction on how to find this address, please scroll down to "Location")

Within minutes from Berlin, Sugar Creek, Millersburg, and Charm, Ohio, The Chestnut Barn is located in the heart of Amish country in the quaint and historic farming town of Winesburg, Ohio. Approximately 7 miles from the bustling tourist area (Berlin), the Chestnut Barn provides a true picture of Amish life in Holmes County. Surrounded by farms and rolling hills, long walks are a wonderful experience. Although our little town does not even boast a traffic light, you will be just steps away from the Winesburg Park which has a large playground and picnic pavilion. A few steps in the other direction is our historic general store. Not only will you find a deli serving Amish meats and cheeses, our general store also has a carry out which serves a varied menu that includes the area's most popular pizza, roasted chicken, and a full service ice cream shop. Amish restaurants and shops are just a short drive in any direction.

Please be advised that even though it is quite a spacious house, it is not suitable for small children or the elderly. It is not handicap accessible. On the main (ground) floor the downstairs bedroom is one step down from the rest of the floor (not quite evident in pictures) and the shower room is also one step bellow the main level. For people using a walker or a wheelchair, we regret to inform you that unfortunately this is not an ideal property to rent.

Located In the back yard of a c.1830 (chestnut) log house, this recently transformed barn has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a giant kitchen and a great room which can be used for gatherings, seminars, or group meetings and fun get togethers.

There are numerous sites to see and Amish country life to be experienced here in Holmes county all in the vicinity of this old barn with modern comforts and furnishings.

Perfect rental for girls' getaway

Th cabin was spotlessly clean, very spacious, with comfortable bedding. Out favorite part was the spacious kitchen That overflows to the seating area. The owner was very gracious and friendly.we would definitely stay there again and recommend it over a stay in any hotel.

Nice place!!

This was a very comfortable, cozy and clean place to stay. We were greeted on arrival and told how to reach owners if needed. Easy access to shopping and restaurants in the Amish area. Looks just like the pictures. I would recommend staying at the Chestnut Barn.

Wonderful amish country retreat!

The Chestnut Barn was a wonderful getaway for me and 4 girlfriends. The location is wonderful...across from Whitmer's Store, where we got pizza and ice cream and mingled with local Amish. From the barn we drove all over amish country. The house really is very spacious, even more so than you can see in pictures. The kitchen is huge, and great for group cooking. The only minor complaint (for lack of a better word) was that the A/C doesn't quite reach upstairs so the evenings were warm...and the beds were a little stiff...but we truly enjoyed our stay at The Chestnut Barn!

Wonderful place to stay.

We stayed over the first weekend in April when all the snow came through. We were warm and comfortable in the Chestnut Barn. We cooked in and the kitchen was a great place to work. The open concept is wonderful for visiting. Alex and Jean are very nice and helpful. We had internet problems (probably due to the storm) and Alex came and helped us out and showed us how to use the TV. Bedrooms are very comfortable. Overall great stay and we will return. Thank you Alex and Jean for the use of the Chestnut Barn!! Judy

Absolutely perfect for our direct sales team retreat!

The layout of the barn was everything we could have asked for! The large open kitchen/living room area allowed all of us plenty of space for group activities. We did a scavenger hunt around Winesburg and fell in love with the quaint little town. Whitmer’s pizza was delicious and the staff in the store made our stay so comfortable. It was so nice to just walk a few steps and have access to drinks, snacks, ice, etc. We were able to spend a little time with Jean! She is absolutely phenomenal and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. I hope to return to this property several times in the future!

Just what we needed

We stayed for 3 nights 12/17-12/20 on our trip to the area. Barn is just as pictures represent. Owner was very responsive to my emails. We met him at check in & he stopped in the evening before we left. It was cold the days we were there & I found the house a bit on the chilly side so we adjusted the thermostat. There are throws on the sofas if you want to cuddle up. Personally, I'd add a gas fireplace in a corner of the great room. I prefer a firm mattress (not that these were soft by any means) but just different than I prefer. The upstairs bathroom is not a true master but does have access from one bedroom. It also has a door from the hall so will act as the bathroom for both upstairs bedrooms. The configuration for the downstairs bath is a little odd but assume the structure of the barn dictated it be done that way. The toilet & sink are in one room & the shower is in another, which has access from the downstairs bedroom. Everything is new & the owner seemed very eager to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We visited Berlin, Sugar Creek, Walnut Creek, Millersburg & Canton. All the small towns are a short drive. We went to a Victorian mansion in Millersburg to see the Christmas decorations (highly recommend for a tour anytime if you like that sort of thing) and Canton for a drive thru Christmas light display & dinner at Sparta Steak House (best service I have every had in a restaurant). I would certainly recommend the house for a stay in the area. So much better than being in a hotel, again, in my opinion.

The rules were ridiculous

My family probably spent at least an hour abiding by "the rules" prior to leaving. Everything from collecting all trash to making sure floors were clean (which was difficult with the falling leaves outdoors). There was no shampoo or soap in the shower/bathing area. There was some watered down liquid soap in the dispenser in one of the bathrooms. No soap at all in the other. Thank goodness there was a Dollar General nearby! On the plus side, we did have plenty of towels and bedding. The beds were hard and rooms were not handicapped accessible. I almost wiped out on the stairs, and then discovered later that there were nightlights near the extra bedding. Blinds are needed on the front door and door the kitchen. On the positive side, the rooms and kitchen were pretty. The location was centered nicely around all the activities we had planned.

Nice little place

The Chestnut Barn was a nice little place. Only thing that was truly a negative is that there are no blinds or curtains on the window to the front door. Otherwise, cute place.

NICE FOR GIRLS WEEKEND

BEDS COULD BE MORE COMFORTABLE. CONSIDERING THAT THIS IS A RESTORED BARN, WARM SETTING. EVEN THOUGH IT IS SAID TO SLEEP 12, THE NUMBER OF TOWELS AND OTHER LINENS WOULD BE A CHALLENGE. WE ONLY HAD 8 FOR ONE NIGHT AND 7 FOR THE OTHER NIGHT AND THEY WERE GLAD THEY BROUGHT A COUPLE TOWELS OF THEIR OWN. I DID NOT GET AN EMAIL WITH THE DOOR CODE PRIOR TO GETTING THERE BUT WHEN I CALLED OWNER, HE RESPONDED WITH CODE AND APOLOGY. OVERALL, MY GIRLS HAD A GREAT TIME.

Unexpected REQUIREMENTS

Let me start by saying I waited over a month to do my review because I wanted to cool down. In general, it was a fairly nice place for a group of 6. However, I wish I could attach pictures of the list of cleaning requirements and the dangerous front sidewalk. There does not seem to be a way to do that. Even though it said not handicapped accessible the sidewalk was a NIGHTMARE in midst of repair with stepping stones at an angle and no mortar. Even sure footed and able people had great difficulty. I guess what upset me the most was compounded with embarrassment. I was the trip planner for 5 of my very dearest friends from Montana for a 5 day 3 state tour. Every step of the 5 day tour I planned with care and visited personally before including on the tour. INCLUDING a previsit to the Chestnut Barn. The contract alluded to the fact that the "Barn" rules would need to be followed. At no time was I ever presented with the rules except NO shoes in barn and NO smoking in barn. The list of rules was overwhelming. I will name a few: ...Before leaving - Clean the stove- refrigerator - microwave, dishes and counter tops. Mop all floors and vacuum rugs. The list went on and on and on!! I was humilated that my vacationing friends had to work like motel maids plus the nightly rate!!! ALL of this should be disclosed prior to paying the deposit. I think any thoughtful host would block out a week to finish the sidewalk so no one would get injured. On top of everything, there were tons ants in the upstairs bathroom. I texted to complain and ask for spray or something and about an hour later the wife ( co - host) came in with more ant traps (there were alread some by the front door). With a crabby look, her first words were... "someone must have been eating in the bathroom if there were ants there!" Oh Really??? We had one meal and it was pizza - I highly doubt anyone in my group took food upstairs into the bathroom to eat it! Overall - I would not go back.

Family Genealogy Trip

The Chester Barn vacation house was the perfect place for me and my cousins to stay on our trip to research our family tree. The nice big kitchen and great room was perfect for us to all get together and visit and share meals together. Everything we could’ve needed was provided. Including extra things in the kitchen that you don’t always get other places. I highly recommend it to anyone who is planning to visit that area!

Why they chose this property

The enormous great room can accommodate several large tables for scrapbookers, quilters and large gatherings. We have had numerous reunions and groups of various kinds enjoy their gatherings in the Chestnut Barn!

What makes this property unique

Located in the heart of Amish country, It is seven miles from Berlin, five miles from Mt. Hope, six miles from Walnut Creek, twelve miles from Sugarcreek, and thirteen miles from Millersburg the county seat of Holmes County Ohio. The beauty of Winesburg is the fact that it a quiet little sleepy town to stay at. During the day you visit all the fun and touristy places and towns that are all within a few minutes drive, but after all that you come back to the quiet place to rest and comfortable and spacious Barn to relax and fun with family/friends.
