About the host
Hosted by Margrét Kristjánsdóttir
My name is Margrét and I am a teacher and a mother of four children. I grew up in this beautiful historical village, Eyrarbakki, when I was a child and my parents still live there.
I love the village, it is so peaceful and friendly. In November 2003 I got an opportunity to buy a lovely cottage by the ocean. It is a early 20th century stone-built cottage built in1913, the name of it is Suðurgata. Since we bought It, it has been renovated and refurbished with love and passion by the my brothers and husband. The brothers are both master carpenters and have renovated many of the orginal houses in Eyrarbakki and Reykjavík. For many years a local midwife lived here and many people talk about the warm atmosphere felt in the cottage.
In the 18th century Eyrarbakki was very vibrant community. Nowadays it is quiet and peaceful village with lot of old colourful houses. The most prominent house in the village is called ,,The House'' it is one of the oldest house in Iceland and it was the centre for European art and culture. Today it is a museum and open to visitors during the summer, I highly recommend to take a tour.

Why they chose this property
The property is located just a few steps away from the magnificent Atlantic ocean only 1 min to beach. Good views and peaceful location. The nature around Eyrarbakki is amazing. The bird reserve Flói is within a walking distance. The light nights of summer, the sunsets over the village and the northern lights during winter provide an unforgettable experience for visitors. The fresh air and the roaring sea work together to clear your mind. You will get lot of energy from the ocean and have a beautiful experience birdlife.
