Tenuta di Forte Sorgnano is the perfect place to relax, surrounded by nature and tranquillity, but it is also an excellent starting point for visiting some of the most beautiful Umbrian cities such as Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Spoleto, Bevagna, Montefalco and to discover the charm of the Umbrian territory. The peculiarity of the estate is the Castle of Sorgnano, whose origins date back to the Lombard period which, suspended between earth and sky, stands perched on the south-west edge of the estate.

The farmhouse consists of 4 farmhouses. The main one, a recently renovated 19th century farmhouse, houses 8 two-room apartments 2 + 2, the second cottage houses 2 three-room apartments 4 + 2 150 meters from the swimming pool, while the main house houses the restaurant and the rooms.

This house is Casa La Torre, an apartment located on the first floor, 60 square meters in size. It has a double bedroom, living room with double sofa bed and fireplace, kitchen and bathroom with shower. On the ground floor guests can use an outdoor area on the floor equipped with table, chairs and umbrella. The Tower, on request, can be communicating with the Poggio.

The houses and rooms of the estate are bright and welcoming, equipped with all comforts and characterized by a rustic and elegant style at the same time. There are some details of traditional architecture such as Impruneta terracotta, terracotta tiles, chestnut beams and 19th century Umbrian style furniture. The farmhouse offers many services: restaurant, swimming pool with solarium, walking paths.

A definite get away

Once you finally get there it is very nice.GPS will not get you there try using Forte Sorgnano for best results. After the 4 km of rough semi paved roads then there are 4 km of dirt roads all roads are up hill. After the drive your on top of the mountain and it is really beautiful. The onsight Castle is only open during Summer or special occasions like Weddings. The Hot tub is not free. Otherwise the staff was helpful.

This was a perfect place for our 4 children and 2 adults. Quick drive to Ceder Point. Kathleen was fantastic in providing feedback on places to eat, activities and places of interest. A perfect trip and perfect place to stay. Would highly recommend.

Great little condo in a great location

We rented this condo to spend a day at Cedar Point and another day at Put in Bay. Location was very convenient for both of those trips. About 20-30 min and we were at Cedar Point. Same thing with the Miller Ferry to get to PIB. The condo is on a sliver of land between Lake Erie and the Portage River, so the views are actually really nice. Also close to Kroger and Walmart for supplies. Just an all around great location. We did run into a couple small issues with a broken outlet and some leftover trash (just some receipts under the master bed) that was apparently left behind by a previous renter. But the positives far outweighed those two things.

“Umbria countryside idyll”

We have stayed twice in this special place in the Umbrian hills, in two apartments self catering and in the main house B+B This a converted farm complete with its own restored castle with traditionally furnished pleasant apartments in the old out buildings plus some small cottages It is reached by driving 4k uphill on dirt roads into the hills which gives you an idea of its peaceful setting. 3k of road is due to be paved over this year There is plenty of space and things to do for the whole family Free bikes, small gym, pool, plenty of paths etc also local pets to make friends with Traditional Italian dinner is available if booked that morning .No menu but good local produce Drinks and snacks are available during the day. breakfast is available on request too Co owner Marco is always happy to help The nearest place of interest is Gualdano Cattaneo which is quite small but it is a good spot from which to reach Assisi , Perugia, Montefalco, Spoletto and other Places If self catering the best supermarket is MI in Bastardo.20 mins Theresa bank,small Conad and Pharmacy at Ponte di Ferra which is nearer Or at Ripibianca at the E 45 turn off If you are looking for a quiet green but also well equipped stay in Umbria.. Look no further!,,,

Just finished a weekend stay at Forte Sorgnano with our family of five. Everything was perfect. The Querce apartment had plenty of room for the five of us. The dinners in the restaurant were among the best meals we've had in Italy. Marco and Carol were most gracious hosts. Marco reserved horseback riding for us at a nearby Agriturismo and handled the payment for us (It was tacked onto our stay as opposed to having to pay the other Agriturismo.) The property is amazing and offers scenic views, places to hike, bikes to use, playgrounds and play equipment for the kids and a pool. I hesitate to rate this place so highly, as I want it to remain the hidden gem that it is! We will be back for sure. We also purchased olive oil to last us the year as well as a few bottles of wine. Highly recommended!

Lovely mountain property far from the crowds!

This resort/country property is a bit of a challenge to get to, but you won't be disappointed. The 7 kilometer journey from a main road, is a little daunting, especially, when it leaves the payment and you begin to wonder if you're there yet!Staying there for 8 days we got used to the road , and even enjoyed the wild boar running across the road. The property itself was just as advertised, but it was the hospitality of the hosts that made it a great experience for us. They waited for us ( we got there late) and put together a cold plate of cheese and cold cuts for us, so we didn't go hungry. The staff is friendly and helpful with the local area's tourist sights. Having a restaurant on premises isn't such a bad thing, either. The food was delicious! We loved the house, which was ample in size, and comfortable to stay in. I think families would love this property with its amenities and things of interest for children. As older adults, we decided to cook sometimes, and found the kitchen and dining area to be a great asset. It would be a great place for getting together with a large number of friends on holiday. Loved it!!

Excellent Condo for Vacation with family !!!

My 3 granddaughters and I stayed here for a week in June, 2015. It was a lovely condo and very nicely furnished, clean, and comfortable. Kathleen was wonderful to work with and I would stay here again if I had to come back to Port Clinton. My mother lived in the area and I know the area well. This condo is convenient to take the Ferry to Put-In-Bay and other activities in the area as well as shopping and restaurants. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. It is so much better than a hotel or motel !!

Highly Recommend!

I chose this vrbo condo because of the reviews, and it didn't disappoint. Kathleen was great to work with and provided helpful information to us having never traveled to this area. The condo is very clean and comfortable. We are a family of five, with 3 teenagers and fit perfectly. It was a perfect location to visit Put-in-Bay, Cedar Point and family near the area. It really was a stress free vacation not being jammed in a hotel room and having the kitchen for breakfast and to make lunches. I highly recommend!

Perfect vacation !! Beautifully modern and CLEAN!!

We stayed here in July 2014 & we had the best vacation. The condo was absolutely perfect for us. This was our 1st time in Ohio, we normally go south, Florida/ Caribbean and this made us feel like we were back in south Florida. The location was very convenient to restaurants (all good) and Jet Express. It was extremely clean and had everything we needed. My favorite part was the decor (I loved it). It was beach/ocean themed which made us feel like we were on a tropical vacation not in Ohio. As soon as you walk into the condo you will smell the ocean. It was amazing, I figured it was just cleaned & the smell would fade, It was scented oils that lasted till the last day!! I actually brought an ocean scented Yankee candle room spray just in case the condo had a bad smell ..BOY was i wrong. It was great to have the marina on one side and the Lake Erie on the other. The views were awesome . My son fished every morning and nite!! Our kids had the best time and on our way home they asked to come back next July, but we have to stay at the same condo ! :) Thank you Kathleen for the wonderful details and touches that made this a wonderful vacation !! :)

SPECTACULAR

This was our first family stay in Port Clinton and this Condo made the experience top notch. As long as we can book this condo then we will be back in Port Clinton every year. Beautifully furnished with great deck space and view of the Marina. I loved waking up in the morning and looking out on the Marina! My kids loved the condo, didn't want to leave (neither did I). The weather was cool for July (70 degrees) but the pool still felt great. Highly recommend you take advantage!

Third year here - best place in Port Clinton!!!

This is our third year renting here and it's the best place we've ever stayed in now in over 10 years of coming to the lake. We do a week and long weekend now every year and this is the only condo we will stay in (my wife especially). We book quickly to make sure and get our dates - fills up fast! No need to bring anything but our clothes - and more than appreciated the fact that I didn't have to go out and find a blow dryer since there were a couple there - my wife forgot hers lol! Love this place and Kathleen's like talking to an old friend - thanks for making this such a special place to stay - fun new upgrades every year - need to find out where that new bedroom picture came from!!! Truly beautiful condo with every attention to detail you can imagine! The décor is very high end which we appreciate while on vacation. The location is very convenient and the view overlooking the marina is outstanding. It was actually cheaper than staying in some of the questionable hotels or other condos with extra fees, deposits etc. The owner is very easy to deal with and provided great info and tips. We loved the 1812 restaurant (lobster was good) and Docks beach house was really fun with a great view and music. The downtown area was quaint - we spent two nights just stopping in different places for drinks. We highly recommend this condo - you really don't need to bring anything!

Great Vacation Location

I agree with the previous reviewer: 5 Star Hotel Rating for the condo and the location! Great view of the Marina from the master bedroom and the living room. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub were a great addition to the deal. The owner was very helpful in providing tips on places to visit, eat, etc.. I will definitely be going back to this condo again.

Wonderful weekend getaway

Best condo ever!

We have visited the Port Clinton area for many years and typically stay 2 weeks a summer - this is truly the best place we have ever stayed. We did not feel as though we were in Ohio!!! The view was great, even on hot days it was fine to sit out on the balcony. Overall the condo is very clean & luxurious - down to the many choices of fine glass ware for evening cocktails and wine to the furniture/decor/bedding. The location is the best and I loved the pool and beach across the street. Kathleen was very helpful and the process for booking was very efficient. Thank you for paying attention to the little extras that make is such a relaxing and convenient stay - we will be staying two weeks next year!

Wonderful Relaxing Experience

The condo was beautifully furnished and the nautically inspired decor added to the ambiance of being on the water. We loved sitting and relaxing on the balcony, whether it was for morning coffee or at different times throughout the day; the view just helped us find more serenity and presence in the moment...we could sit out there for hours. There is so much to experience in Port Clinton and this location was very convenient (within walking distance) to everything including: shops, restaurants and the Jet Express. Thanks Brett & Kathleen for being so helpful with planning and suggesting things for us to do and places to go. We are definitely planning a return trip next summer and highly recommend this property to others.

We are Marco and Andrea, two brothers born in Rome, and more than 10 years ago we decided to change life. After have graduated in veterinary medicine at the University 'of Camerino, we fell in love with Umbria and Forte Sorgnano. After restructuring the estate, date back to 800, and re-ordering the farm of of 200 hectares, we decided to live here and started this new adventure.

Why they chose this property

The peculiarity of the estate is the Castle of Sorgnano.
Immersed in a land of uncontaminated nature, oak woods and olive trees, the castle stands on the top of a hill that overlooks a magnificent valley. Its origins must be strictly tied to its position, ideal for the ancient people of the Lombards to monitor the western boundary of the Duchy of Spoleto. The majesty of the stone walls contrast with the intimacy of the welcoming courtyard, that is crowned by finely furnished halls and a 360° terrace. A magic and timeless atmosphere that only a centuries-old castle can create. And that is waiting for your personal touch. Inside the property, you can find a XVIII century rural village converted into a lovely country house, with all the comforts – swimming pool, restaurant, farm, recreation ground and relaxation area.

The first reference about the Castle dates back to the XIII century, in the Liber Censum of the Vatican Secret Archives, but the foundation must date back to the 7th-8th centuries, the Lombard epoch. Geograhically placed at the borders of the Lombardic Duchy of Spoleto, it had to be one of the fortress built to strengthen the Duchy in the area close to the Byzantine corridor, the strip that connected the Exarchate of Ravenna to Rome. During the 13th century the Castle was in the list of the Guelphs, factions supporting the Pope against the Emperor – the so-called Ghibellines. In the following centuries its destiny was strictly tied to Bettona, the nearest town, and to the families that owned the estate: Segna, Crispolti, Della Penna, Bianconi.

What makes this property unique

During your stay our restaurant is open. To this enchanting setting, be assured that the menu will highlight the traditional Umbrian cuisine that will suit even the most refined palette. On you desire, you can use our outdoor terrace of more than 200 square meters which is surrounded by flowers beds and ancient olive trees.

Within Forte Sorgnano also has a farm with animals, which houses the goats (Miele and Bebè), pigs (Ciro and Concietta) even rabbits, geese, chickens, guinea fowl and ducks.

Every morning the factor will be happy to accompany you to the farm where you can have fun to feed to our dear animals and gather fresh eggs for breakfast. Children can have fun doing “the farmers for a day” giving hay to goats and rabbits, corn to pigs and birdseed to chickens and geese.
