Less than one hour from the CBD - 45 mins car journey and 10 mins on the water - it is the perfect way to experience absolute privacy right on the water. Easy access, with several options for 'river travel' - see below. This classic ’50’s’ riverside cottage, now beautifully restored, is dreamy and romantic and just a little bit French. Overflowing wth charm, renovated with luxurious appointments it offers guests privacy and serenity in a stunning BOAT ACCESS ONLY location on the Hawkesbury river. Sitting over the water, nestled just below the cottage is the original (restored) boathouse where guests have the exclusive use of a completely private hideaway visible only to passing river traffic and jumping fish.
DURING WINTER the cottage is cosy and deliciously warm with reverse cycle heating and a new combustion fireplace. We provide chopped firewood. The plunge pool will be heated for your arrival - please remember to ask.
DURING THE LONG SUMMER MONTHS when it is hot on the Hawkesbury, the crystal clear plunge pool is perfect. Two generous terraces that catch the breeze off the water and look over the river ensure supreme outdoor comfort. The cottage is air conditioned.
BEING WATER ACCESS ONLY IT IS SUPREMELY PEACEFUL. With no road access, this is the ultimate destination for guests to just get away and take advantage of the privacy and beauty of this stunning property, yet still have five star facilities.
TRANSPORT TO THE PROPERTY is either by water taxi, hire boat, hire tinny, ferry (one ferry on weekdays which arrives 11am) or own boat. Guests with their own boat (max 6 metres) tie up on our private pontoon. All linen - bed, bathroom and pool towels provided. The cottage has mains electricity, gas for cooking and a very clean high pressure tank water supply. A sophisticated Generator system allows for continuation of power supply in the event of a power cut.
Stylishly understated, fresh and airy, with big steel frame windows allow expansive views out over the Hawkesbury river. The air is unpolluted, the wooden floors lime washed and the walls chalked to make this a toxin free environment. As the owners live here when the cottage is not rented to guests it is a place that is lived in and loved. All linen is provided, no 'extra' charges and no cleaning fees. The secluded plunge/spa pool in the tropical terrace garden is a refuge in the heat of summer, and a magical place to swim at midnight under the stars whilst watching the moon on the water. During the cooler months when the air outside is crisp, the pool is heated heaven.
In the Boathouse - take a siesta in the hammock, laze on the Daybed, or simply relax in a big cane chair and drop a fishing line into the water. There are several dry stone wall terraces at the back where we have planted Lavender, Citrus and Olive trees - still growing. Up beyond the terraces are hundreds of acres of Australian bush and the wildlife that goes with it. Blissfully quiet, La Riveraine is set up above the water’s edge nestled behind a thriving Mulberry tree and faces the morning sun. La Riveraine is not 'just another rental’. It is our home, and yours for a special few days.
For Al Fresco dining there are three private terraces: - the covered verandah overlooking the river, the secluded Frangipani and potted Citrus terrace garden with plunge pool, and the enclosed stone courtyard at the back for outdoor cooking.
There are no roads and no vehicles, just the sounds of boats passing by, people out walking, night fishermen, or flying boats taking guests to restaurants on the river. - see below for information. A polite reminder: TWO PEOPLE ONLY- no exceptions sorry NO CHILDREN as it is just not suitable NO PETS - no exceptions NO SMOKING ANYWHERE ON THE PROPERTY There are 28 stairs up to the house - not suitable for people with mobility issues. 2 day minimum stay 3 day minimum on long weekends As we do not charge a cleaning fee, we respectfully ask that you leave the cottage as you found it.

Annie was the best host, very willing and what to help in any situation, the house was everything that it said and more, had the most relaxing weekend and can’t wait to go back
Absolutely gorgeous little cottage. It had everything we needed including a proper coffee machine and grinder. Beautiful outlook, extremely quiet and serene. Perfect for a romantic getaway.
Perfect escape from the rat race in a delightful cottage by the water. The boathouse is a very special spot (especially laying in that hammock!). The neighbours are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a small hike to the top of Bar Island for a splendid view. Annie, our host, goes out of her way to make you feel welcome in her home.
We stayed at La riveraine last week. It is a stunning little cottage. It was our first wedding anniversary we wanted somewhere with no distraction where we could switch off and relax and this is the perfect little get away spot. The cottage has everything so your packing is very little. The boathouse is the perfect place to switch off with a glass of wine and watch the world go by on the water. It was a very cold weekend but the cottage has a fire which does a great job at heating it. Annie the host is fantastic supplied me with plently of information before arrival to ensure a smooth check in process, had the pool heated for our arrival and kept in contact over the weekend to ensure we were ok. We will definitely be back to stay again.
An hour away from our Sydney home and a world away from care. Well worth the effort required with access only by boat. Annie's communications and instructions were clear and welcoming, we enjoyed the whole experience immensely.
We absolutely loved our escape getaway. The plunge pool was beautiful, the location was quiet and cosy and the best part for us was the kitchen. It had everything you needed and cooking was so enjoyable with exceptional cookware and cutlery. I also enjoyed feeding the fish out back too. Felt like a home away from home.
We had the most wonderful time at the beautiful la riveraine. We chose to explore the dam and hike to the top for the sensational views, the cottage was perfect so warm and inviting and the personal touches Annie added to make us feel welcome were wonderful. The boat shed is one of a kind and was well used by us , sitting and enjoying the view was never hard to do. To top off our amazing days we would spend the afternoons enjoy the spa and the spectacular view over the water as the sun went down and the stars came out .
I could not recommend this property enough for a romantic getaway and of course Annie, who was the perfect host.

We loved our time at this property. It is absolutely beautiful, was well stocked with everything you could possibly need and such a gorgeous location with so many activities to do. The cabin is stunning and Annie is so friendly, organised and welcoming, we would highly recommend to anyone considering staying.
We had an amazing time at La Riveraine. The owner was fantastic to deal with from the beginning to the end. The place is very romantic and secluded. It’s a perfect location and has all amenities required. It was clean and a few little touches to make you feel welcome. The plunge pool is a great addition where we enjoyed a relaxing spa. We also took a water taxi to Peats Bite for lunch which was lovely and so close!
Would highly recommend this place and am sure we’ll be back 😊

About the host
Hosted by Annie Julia Taylor
La Riveraine has been available to guests for six years. We also host a charming Gite in the Perigord Noir in South West France. Providing guests with somewhere special is what we do well.
Why they chose this property
Being on a peninsula with boat access only gives the cottage a unique 'isolated' ambience, away from the 'noise' of city life. Often these places are hard to get to, La Riveraine is easy.
What makes this property unique
Guests have not just a beautiful cottage. The property includes the boathouse right on the water, and a pool/spa which is very unusual in a location like this
