About this property
Villa Shamrock 2 bedroom beachfront villa
A fabulous opportunity to rent a direct beachfront, two-bedroom, two-bathroom villa in the highly regarded, St. James’s Club Resort. Villa Shamrock (426) is being made available for the first time from the owners and is a great opportunity for those seeking to rent a beach level villa. The private, secure, gated resort community is situated on beautiful Mamora Bay, minutes from historic English Harbour, a World Heritage Site.
Shamrock is one of only a handful of beachside properties within the St James’s Club complex that is far enough away from the hotel complex to enjoy the sense of being on a private beach although it is also close enough that guests can take full advantage of the many facilities which this famous resort has on offer.
Although the kitchen is fully equipped with all modern conveniences – fridge freezer with ice maker, dishwasher, large oven and four ring hob , toaster, electric kettle, coffee machine as well as mixer, blender, microwave oven and so on – visitors also have the option to register with the hotel for its all-inclusive food and drinks package which covers three meals a day at the hotel’s suite of restaurants, all drinks and snacks at the beachside and poolside bars, as well the the drinks cart which throughout the day prowls up and down the beach.
When in the house or on the beach but not too far from the villa, guests have a access to Shamrock’s own high speed Internet router but when out of reach there is the option to connect to St James’s own complimentary internet which spans the entire resort.
The south-facing villa itself comprises two double en-suite bedrooms, one with a super king-sized double bed, the other with twin beds which can be configured individually or seamlessly as a further super king. The bathrooms are appointed to a high standard. Both bedrooms lie on the lower ground floor which through large sliding doors lead onto the lower verandah which in turn opens straight onto the beach.
The open-plan kitchen which hosts the main front door to the villa lies on a half floor between the bedrooms and a large open living-dining room which again speaks of home rather than a targeted holiday let. Although there is a large round glass-topped dining table with six chairs, both owners and guests generally prefer to sit at the long eight-seater table on the large upper balcony from which one has a splendid view of the beach, the bay and in the evening of the often spectacular sunsets.Nothing beats that moment when the sea seemingly turns to gold. The balcony is also home to a low round cable with four chairs, ideal for pre-dinner cocktails. The Weber kettle barbecue is also there to be enjoyed.
The St James’s Club is a well established private hotel and villa resort bordered by the ocean-side Coco beach as well as the one facing the calm Mamora Bay, the lagoon on which the villa sits. It enjoys 24/7 private security coverage and is therefore reputed for its safety. Guests have the use of the resort’s sailing boats, paddle boards and kayaks, all of which are under permanent oversight by the capable, friendly and well trained watersports team.
Although it sits on a land spur off its own, the resort is also only a 10 minute drive from the restaurants and bars of the world renowned super-yacht berths of Falmouth and the world heritage site of Nelson’s Dockyard at English Harbour which dates back to the 18th century and which was at one time commanded by Horatio Nelson himself. Dotted around English Harbour is a clutch of Georgian hilltop forts, the most famous of which is at Shirley Heights were a music and party night is held on Thursdays and Sundays. The so-called Jump-Up is not to be missed.
Antigua’s capital St John’s is a forty minute drive to the north. Taxis can be booked through the hotel reception at which all guests are required to check in at arrival and out again at departure.
The price of the villa includes maid service. It is cleaned twice a week and sheets are changed weekly. The maid will help with laundry at agreed cost to the guests.
The owner knows that damage and breakages can occur. Minor things will not be charged for although they would very much appreciate such matters being reported upon departure. Larger issues will be noted by the rental agents and be deducted from the deposit.
Rates include 17% ABST - Antigua and Barbuda sales tax. Tourism Guest Levy is charged separately at US$5 per person per day for persons over 5 years at the time of travel. There is a US$24 per day (for the villa, not per person) resort fee which covers use of loungers on the beach and pools, beach towels, resort WiFi, non motorized water sports, use of gym and tennis courts.

Everything was wonderful- the villa, the location and the communication with the Property Manager. We had a brilliant weeks holiday over New Year

Thanks very much for staying with us at Shamrock. WE are delighted you enjoyed your stay. It was a pleasure to host you and we hope very much you will be back again soon.
Many thanks.
We have stayed at St James Club several times. Shamrock is a beautiful villa, new and well maintained. We liked that it was literally right on the beach, and at the far end of the campus. Not a long walk to anything (an entire perimeter walk, including the big hill above the property takes just 55 minutes) but more quiet and more privacy, fewer people, than closer to reception and dining rooms. The owner was extremeely helpful and we were able to pre-provision our villa with groceries and beverages through their assistance.

Many thanks indeed for your review of Villa Shamrock and we are delighted you had a great stay. We hope very much to have the opportunity of welcoming you back again soon.
Never received details on how to get access to the property. Owner would not answer the phone. Had to get refunded and get helping finding a new place to stay. Room was not even cleaned and ready for our arrival.

Many thanks for your review which as you know is a little unfair. We appreciate we had misunderstood the arrival date and were preparing the villa for next day arrival. We apologised to you and organised two rooms on an all inclusive basis in the resort for the first night and assured you we would have the villa ready early the next day. We thought you had accepted this and were comfortable with this offer. We tried to contact you without success several times the next day but you didn’t answer our calls. We heard from VRBO subsequently that you had cancelled the booking and gone elsewhere. Again our apologies for the misunderstanding but we did try everything we could in the circumstances to remedy the situation. We hope nonetheless that you had a great stay in Antigua in spite of your poor arrival experience. Thanks again for your feedback.

Liked: Communication, location
Disliked: Check-in
Outdated property, lots of stairs
When we arrived at villa it was 85 degrees min. It was cooler outside. There are 3 total minisplits, 2 in bedrooms and 1 upstairs in living area. This villa has an odd layout. When you walk in kitchen, this is main floor and it is small. You can go upstairs to dining and living area with balcony (no beach access from living area.) You have to walk down stairs to kitchen and down more stairs for bedrooms. Both rooms have sliding glass doors that lead outside. I slept with our daughter just for security as they are steps away from beach. The unit has a washer and dryer but you are unable to use them. When asked I was told they are complicated and have been broken before. This is extremely annoying, just leave simple directions. Also, food in fridge and freezer that says "do not eat, owners food." We were supposed to have maid service that never happened. We were given 3 towels to last us 8 days. Ppl of Saint James Club were very nice. For the money you can find a much nicer villa on water. Bay was full of seaweed and sargassum, we couldnt do watersports bc fish and crab were dying due to unsafe water conditions. Beach was well taken care of and you can fish off of the dock.

Many thanks for your review of Villa Shamrock. The layout of the villa is a typical St James Club Villa with a lower floor which has the bedrooms and bathrooms and patio access and the upper floor with the lounge dining and sliding doors out to the part covered dining deck. The villa has acs in the bedrooms, which work effectively and efficiently to cool these spaces. There's a much larger unit upstairs in the lounge/dining area. The kitchen is on a mezzanine floor between the two other levels. There are a few steps up to the upper level and the same to the lower level.
Our cleaner Cherrian who has been at the villa for any years offered to handle the laundry for a minimal charge. We do not provide access to the washer drier for guests as we have found that offering the service for a small fee is usually a delight for most guests who are on vacation. Cherrian told us that she offered you cleaning service on Tuesday and Fridays but you declined the Tuesday service. You could have had clean towels daily if you had asked us.
Security at the villa is always foremost in our minds and the siding doors are fully lockable. St James Club is a fully gated resort with 24 hour security so we are not sure why you felt this was inadequate. Sorry you felt this way. Of course we cant be accountable for the seaweed levels at the resort and again w are sorry you experienced this.
We will certainly work harder on our communication going forward and appreciate the feedback
We could not have been happier with our stay at the Shamrock Villa. The access to the beach was exceptional. The villa was clean and well supplies. We hope to stay there again.
Originally from Scotland and having grown up and spent many years in Jersey, Channel Islands, my hospitality career took me to many countries but I landed in Antigua in 1992 and have been here on and off ever since. Our company, Stanley ’s Estates manages several villas and we offer holiday rentals as part of what we do as realtors. Our co host Robertha, our property manager, John and I, Alistair take care to look after all our guests.
Why they chose this property
Villa shamrock is located right on the water and its lovely almost idyllic setting for those seeking a resort environment but away from centre of activity.
What makes this property unique
Its beachfront location makes Shamrock really special. Balmy evenings on the upstairs patio, cocktails and bbqs under the stars.
