The Space
This house is a 2 bedroom traditional shotgun home -- If you're not familiar with a shotgun home, it is a floor plan of continuous rooms. This means you walk through one room to get to the next. Both bedrooms have doors that can be closed/locked for privacy, but to get from the front room of the house to the back room of the house, you must walk through all the rooms -- Each bedroom has a full-size bed with custom hand built furniture throughout the space. The house also includes a personal driveway that can fit 2 cars and additional free street parking. The living room is a welcoming, comfortable space with ample room to lounge and rest. Ask me if you require additional sleeping arrangements.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house, driveway, parking, both side yards, and front porch with table, chairs, and a swing.
Other things to note
Here you will get the experience of having your own home while you are on vacation in New Orleans. Everything you really need to make your stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible is provided here for you from towels to coffee, to your very own Guide Book... all of the necessities are here! I want you to feel at home, even if it's just for a night! Everything in my home is yours to use.
The home is cleaned by a professional cleaning service after every reservation, so it is in tip top shape for when you arrive for your NOLA trip.
If you find you need anything or have any questions, I live next door and am just a quick text message away to help in any way I can.
The neighborhood
I live on a quiet block of New Orleans street in the historical 7th Ward of New Orleans. My neighborhood is a lower income, working-class neighborhood, that was flooded during Hurricane Katrina, like much of the rest of the city at that time. Many of the people who live in my neighborhood have lived here for generations.
Right off the bat, you might be like, "Oh My... Is this neighborhood safe?" Well yes, Dorothy it is, but you sure aren't in Kansas anymore. The 7th Ward is nothing fancy, just a regular New Orleans Lower/Middle-class ethnically diverse neighborhood that has seen a recent revival. Sometimes people play music on the porches, sometimes a car goes by with loud bass - a normal day in the 7th ward.
I want to ensure that your stay is enjoyable, comfortable, and as expected. I would ask that you make sure you fully read my listing and understand your possible first impression of the neighborhood.
At first glance, it may seem sort of "rough around the edges" from someone who is not familiar, but the people who live in the community are good people. I actually live on the other side of the Duplex, and I have NEVER had any problem with safety or crime. Actually, I absolutely love where I live and I'm confident you will too! :)
Again, this is just to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible and you are aware of what to expect.
That being said. The location is great and very centrally located to almost all of the attractions New Orleans has to offer. 5 minutes to the French Quarter. 5 Minutes to City Park. 5 Minutes to Frenchman St. Also just a quick UBER ride to anywhere else in the city.
I am constantly trying to improve the house as well, so there's a good chance the house will look even better than in the pictures by the time you arrive.
Getting around
The French Quarter and Frenchman street are a short 1.3 miles car/bike/Uber ride away (walking not recommended).
You should always keep in mind that even in the safest and wealthiest of neighborhoods in New Orleans, you are still in New Orleans, so please no matter where you choose to stay during your trip be safe and smart. Taking a cab or Uber home from the bars at night is always a better idea.
