About this property

Secluded Lakehouse Retreat: Vintage Rustic Lakefront on 5 Private Wooded Acres

Great all year round stay-cation! Private sanctuary with neighbors only visible from afar. A secluded lake with only 6 houses, this is the perfect getaway from NYC - only 90mins drive from George Washington Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel, and commute accessible: by bus to Monticello or by train to Port Jervis Station, either way is more or less 15mins cab ride to the house.

Perfect as a base for skiing in Sullivan County or slightly farther afield in the North Catskills or the Poconos. In the summer, enjoy our kayaks or swim - the lake has a raft anchored in the middle for guests to enjoy. Fire pit ideal for guitar jam sessions and smores! If you love to fish, feel free to use our fishing rods. The vicinity is ideal for exploring, hiking and unwinding in nature. Eagle watching is extremely popular here in the winter, when bald eagles are numerous. Close to Delaware River for water sports: kayaking, tubing and rafting. Great antique/vintage stores, yard sales, supermarkets and farmer's market nearby. Fun concerts and museum in Bethel Woods Center for Arts - home to original Woodstock.

The house has 4 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, wrap around windows with lake views in the main room, cozy living room with wood stove, dining table that seats 8, spacious kitchen with 2 ovens and dishwasher, entertainment room with projector and games.

Listing should be taken down
My confirmed and paid-for reservation was canceled 3 hours before check-in with no explanation. When I pressed for an explanation, the owner responded that the property should not be listed as available for booking.

We made the best of it, but rustic for sure.
The house is not very well maintained. There are cobwebs everywhere and dead bugs in all the window screens. The kitchen window is broken permanently open and covered in filth. The basement is damp and musty you don't even want to go down there. You definitely can't count that room as a 4th bedroom, no one would ever sleep down there. The deck is decaying and the owner seems to be patching it up piecemeal (there were 3-4 new boards). My chair leg actually fell through the rotted deck while eating dinner. The lake is more of a big pond. Covered in lilly pads and very shallow. None of us were willing to swim in it. But it looks nice from the house. The fire pit was great, the BBQ was brand new and the place was quiet and serene. Those were the pluses. She charges a significant cleaning fee but it's clear most of that doesn't go to any cleaning service. We had to clean the kitchen and every plate and pot before we used it. And then she charges an added fee to throw away our garbage? Where am I supposed to put it, we're in the middle of the woods? After all her add ons and fees, the posted nightly rate comes out to be significantly higher. Not worth it.

Good Times
My friends and I stayed four nights to attend this years Mountain Jam at Bethel Woods. It was a short drive to get there from the house. We enjoyed seeing the pond from the windows and using the kayaks.

Great property and great host!
We had a great 3 day stay at this house and it was a fantastic reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city. Mary was constantly available and attentive whenever needed. Thanks so much again Mary, we’ll definitely be back!
