Great Spring Break Family House
We had 2 families of five each and the house was perfect for our needs. I gave 3 stars for cleanliness for a couple of reasons. We saw a cockroach on the stairs, the dining room table seemed to always be sticky even after several wipe downs, and the kitchen sponge was beyond old and gross. There was glass cleaner available but not antibacterial cleaner and not hand soap was provided. I would have thought that more attention to cleanliness would have been appropriate, especially since we are still dealing with COVID. We were provided with only 1 trash bag. In my experience, usually there are a few bags to get you going and then you have to get more. But the 1 trash bag meant we had to go out immediately to the store. Also, the house does not come with beach chairs. So plan to bring your own or buy them at the souvenir shop. This is also just another inconvenience and I feel like the property should have provided them. We booked through VRBO only to find out that they are managed by Emerald Isle Realty. I wonder if we had booked through EIR if it would have saved us some money because we wouldn't have had to pay all the extra VRBO service fees. We did not contact the owner during our stay but called EIR when we had an issue with the hot tub and elevator. They were very responsive.
I gave a 3 for "accuracy of listing" because it did not disclose the fact that there was a major beach reconstruction project being done at the time of our stay. In fact for 2 of the days our beach access was closed and there was heavy machinery working round the clock 24/7 right in front of the property. We had read about a beach project going on the island but coming from far away were unable to get more information. We reached out to the owner to find our more details but were told they didn't know anything about it and to contact the town. I would have appreciated more openness and upfront information. The construction impacted 2 days of our vacation and then the crew finished and moved onto another part of the beach and left us with a beautiful pristine beach.
Overall, the house fit our needs for our 2 families of 5 and we had loads of fun. The beach access was amazing when we had it. The views were beautiful. The kids loved going from beach to pool to hot tub. The area is residential and quiet. It's about 3 miles either direction to the first store and 10 mins to get to grocery stores and restaurants.
