Guests will love this well loved wooden floored art deco gem. She is a little worn from the many years standing in the direct firing line of the Foveaux Strait, but is warm and comfortable inside.
She has a compact and cozy living/dining area with open fire (and plenty of firewood). The beach is a stones throw from the property, right across the road and a local store, playground and a restaurant a short stroll away.

Amazing views

The beach views from this house were amazing. We used the house as a base whilst we did day trips in the area. We found it had everything we needed and was the ideal home away from home whilst we were on holidays in New Zealand.

We had a good stay at Art Deco Gem, Property # 7896004. Generally the bach was clean, kitchen surfaces, bathroom, floors, bedding which was great. The oven and stove top were filthy, unusable. Freezer full of ice buildup. We couldn't get the tv or washing machine to go, washing machine starts to fill with water and then stops after about 30 seconds. TV started but then flicked off, we couldn't get it going again.We couldn't find any instructions for these in case we were doing something wrong, but think they weren't working at all. We didn't use the heat pump in the lounge as wasn't sure if it was safe to use. No sink plug for the bathroom handbasin, sink plug for laundry tub didnt fit/lockin, had to use one from kitchen sink when I did hand washing. Our son-in-law lent us a BBQ to cook on as the one provided was pretty old and rusty and there wasn't a gas bottle for it. We paid $609.00 for 4 nights, which seems a lot with what was provided. This is the first time we've ever given negative feedback about a bach and we do rent baches alot, but we feel it is justified.

art deco gem towack st riverton southland nz

property is in prime spot & special artdeco house but view spoiled with shrubs not trimmed to enjoy the view or up the driveway,, garden very sad lots weeds, 2coffee sachets, no milk for x2guests 2night stay ?? over frozen fridge needed a clean,, range unusable plumbing problem with shower tray full of water almost overflow, lot dust under beds& on skirting boards, coffee cups had old stained rings inside ,armrests on chairs very sticky with ring marks , multi old spider webs every where, dirty windows not been cleaned for sometime, this house could have the wow factor , but just unloved, 1day,s work would make it sparkle,, we both have had guest accm over 40yrs ,, so know what is acceptable for paying guests , was a disappointing stay , our review is only to hopefully improve others stay, wanting to return, ,

We enjoyed our stay here, it was a warm place as weather was chilly, comfy bed, we did replace the shower head as was not working well, bought new dish brush and scouring pads, cleaned vacuum and washing machine removed lint out of lint holder in it and advised owner top part where u put wash powder was broken. It was beautiful to look over ocean and 5mins to drive to riverton and 25 mins to invercargill

Great location but needs more care

The host was very flexible about our request for an early check-in. The location is stunning, with a beach view. It would be great if more care was given to making sure the property is ready for guests - the fridge has a problem and full of water, the kitchen floor needed sweeping, there was no hand soap (it was delivered hours later but we'd gone and boight our own by that stage). We had an extra guest - a dead mouse in a cupboard! Check-in was confusing as we'd been sent the wrong street number from the Bookabach site and emails.

Disappointed

Location was great but property was disappointing. It could be WOW. Bed felt like you were lying on a trampoline every time one of us moved. Dead mouse in a trap in hotwater cupboard. Heat pump very noisy. Shower head needs replaced. Worst shower we have experienced. No diswashing liquid so dishes were grubby an the microwave was disgusting. We cleaned both before we used. No plug in bathroom sink or hand soap. Good tidy up outside needed too. Will visit Riverton again but will not stay here.

Great location BUT !!

The photos make the cottage look great however, they don’t show the rotting window frames, the peeling paint, the very dirty stove top and oven, the mould on the inside of the windows, the nailed up windows, the boarded up window. Piles of leaves and litter in the corners of the steps and around the front door which have obviously been there for some time. The bed was most unkind to our backs and we had to try and fix the washing line in order to use it. The location is wonderful but the state of the cottage leaves much to be desired. So very disappointed.

It is a place to stay as it is comfortable, it is a place that I could retire to, enjoying the views, the sound of the ocean and clear sky at night to see all thee stars and no continuous traffic, that you can read a good book in peace.
