About this property

Camping In The Rockies - A Unique Experience

Serene, majestic, and private location in southern Rocky Mountains on 340 secluded acres at 9,000 feet elevation.

This setting is for those who love nature, peace, quiet, and outdoor beauty along with a chance to truly connect with those you bring with you to share this experience.

Location has fire pit, shower, camp toilet, fully equipped outdoor kitchen, picnic table. Just bring food, beverages, your personal items, family and friends.

This site is unique because of the amazing views, access to 340 pristine acres, dark skies to watch the stars, and variety of animals in their natural habitat. See photos.

Mountain biking trails have been professionally developed and are included in the base cost which open up the property and allow you to experience a national park setting without crowds.

There are no traffic noises, just wind through the pines.

NOTICE through end of June:
1. We are expanding what we offer our guests and are constructing an authentic Hobbit Hole :-) which we expect to be available late summer or early fall.

2. We have 340 acres of land - a whole mountain - and during the completion of this Hobbit Hole addition you have your choice of several sites to camp. We will show you when you arrive and try to send out pictures and a map of the available locations - one portrayed in the description and photos and others that are more remote on the property. Remote locations will have fire-pit, camp chairs, and picnic table only.
THE SETTING:
Breathtaking views in a private location on 340 secluded acres. Here you can truly get away from it all. A lot of creature comforts, but no electricity, internet, TV, etc. Potable water available at no charge. Firewood available for a $5 fee (about 1/2 price compared to in-town purchase).

Owners/hosts live nearby and are a short walk away if you need anything. You'll hear the wind in the trees, birds in the summer, and elk bugling in the fall - but no traffic, sirens, or other 'city' noises. The wonderful smell of pine, cedar, and spruce will refresh you as you relax around the fire and fall asleep at night.

FIREPIT and EVENING SKIES:
Log seating surrounds the firepit. Firepit use subject to state and county restrictions. The skies are black, and there are so many stars that it's difficult to find familiar constellations. You'll see the Milky Way arching across the sky at night.

The Perseid meteor shower occurs in mid-August, reaching peak activity around August 15. What a show! Be patient, and you'll see the International Space Station and other satellites passing overhead on clear nights.

KITCHEN and DINING:
Redwood picnic table and benches, dish washing pan (and detergent), authentic enamelware plates, bowls, cups, and spoons. Flatware, glasses, cooking utensils, pots, pans, dish towels, salt, pepper, sugar, french press coffee pot. Locked container is for food and trash.

For the convenience of our guests we offer the following on a daily basis for a nominal charge or you can, of course, bring your own.
- Firewood $5/bundle
- ice $2/ 10-lb bag
- snacks:
- - popcorn for use w/ campfire popcorn popper $1
- - Smores supplies $2/person
Hosts remove trash daily and bring convenience supplies which have been pre-arranged with hosts. Notify us through VRBO after booking and we will send a charge request through VRBO.

Bring your food, beverages, toilet paper, and trash bags, tent or self-contained RV 25 ft or shorter. You may bring your own firewood or purchase from hosts.

SHOWER and TOILET:
Shower outdoors in a private enclosure that is open to sky, trees, and mountains. Individual solar shower containers provided for each guest. Body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are provided as well. Bring towels.

Toilet is in unique multi-wood outdoor enclosure. Air freshener, hand-sanitizer, hand towels and reading material appropriate to the setting are provided. :-)

Hike and bike the professionally designed and constructed trails and enjoy the nature and wildlife. Horseshoe pit and horseshoes on site.

Fabulous glamping experience!
Wonderful glamping experience! The Tipi is spacious and the beds comfortable. Pretty much everything you need is provided, which was great for me since I have not camped in a very long time. The property is lovely and the views gorgeous including the deer that walked thru the campsite as I was reading early morning. Michael and Joyce are very helpful and communicative. This location is a must especially if you are looking for a very quiet relaxing weekend getaway but dont want the hassle of remembering/packing all of your camping gear.

Camping on top of the world!
Beautiful property, comfortable teepee, and lots of wildlife! If you want to getaway from the hustle and bustle and relax in a clean, quiet retreat, this place is great! Property owners are kind and considerate. The 9000’ elevation keeps temps down in the summer, but there was a nice warm blanket in the teepee!

Lovely place to spend some quiet time
We spent the weekend at the Tipi and came home rested and rejuvenated. My teenage boys enjoyed their first 'glamping' (real beds in a tent) experience. We usually backpack or camp on the ground style. The light-lined paths added a magical feel to the nights and made it feel extra special. We got to watch a herd of deer in our campsite for about a 45 minutes one early morning. Great way to start our day. The stars were amazing. All around a great getaway. They may need to reassess the toilet situation if they continue to have a good volume of guests. Other than that - it was a lovely experience and just what we needed to kick off the cold weather season. Thank you for the hospitality!

Why they chose this property

I love the peace, quiet, animals, and majestic beauty of the mountains and location. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

What makes this property unique

This setting is on a 6,500 acre ranch occupied by 13 families, so you will not likely see other people, hear vehicular traffic, or your neighbor's choice of music. This vacation rental is for the 340 acres only. All other properties and roads on the ranch are private, but you will have thousand-acre views! Look for sightings of elk, deer, pronghorn antelope, Rocky Mountain big horn sheep, eagles (bald and golden), chipmunks, ground squirrels, tree squirrels (gray and Abert), and whistle-pigs (marmots). The shy ones are bears, cougar, lynx, bobcat, and badger. Most likely you will not see any of the last group, but they are out here and you might! Have your cameras ready. :-) The setting is very much like a national park except there are no other visitors, developed trails, no ranger stations, etc. This is a unique experience.
