Walk to the beach! Three standalone cabins interconnected with stairs are perched on a hill with amazing ocean views! A well-designed complex of comfortable rustic pine cabins in true Nicaraguan architectural style. Casa Malinche set in the quiet community of El Remanso, is a place to unplug - but we do have WiFi ;) It is our home away from home and we are delighted to share it with you when we are not there.
You got the entire house! Accommodation is for 6 people and the setup is perfect for couples and one or two families. The first level with the outdoor social areas with deck and hammock portico opens up into a “Great Room” - open concept kitchen, dining, living, overlooking the ocean. The kitchen is fully equipped - gas stove/oven, fridge, microwave, toaster, blender, espresso and regular coffee maker, pots and pans, utensils, dishes and cutlery. You get an outdoor charcoal (provided) grill ready for you. Although there is running water, we provide a 5-gallon bottled water for cooking and drinking. You only need to bring your consumables.
Two additional bedroom levels invite you to the quieter, private areas. Stairs take you to the second level common balcony accessing two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. Bedrooms 2 and 3 have 2 twin beds each that can be joined together (if desired). All windows are screened allowing you to sleep listening to the surf. The 3rd level takes you to the master bedroom (King-size bed) with en-suite bathroom and a balcony overlooking the ocean. There is also private porch with sitting area, swings and a walk through to a private outdoor shower for a refreshing rinse after the beach.
All bedrooms are well appointed with comfortable beds, linens, pillows, towels and beach towels. Bathrooms include hair dryer, hand wash soap and 1L water bottle. Plenty of screened windows provide natural cross ventilation with ceiling fans in every room. Balconies and terraces come furnished with a combination of hammocks, swings, lounging chairs, tall tables/chairs to watch the view. Our live-in caretaker is there for house cleaning, maintenance, to set you up and, assist with any questions (Spanish only!).
Casa Malinche is a place to unplug - cell signal is variable. But, should you wish to work remotely we have good internet speed and Wi Fi in the house. It is the perfect place for the selective nature minded traveler, who loves adventure and sandy beaches away from crowds and mass resorts. Birds start visiting early in the morning - chocoyos, pijules, urracas... Little crabs, lizards and frogs may walk with you at night…
A 5-minute walk down the hill will take you to the beach. El Remanso beach offers the best "learn to surf" waves. You can get lessons and rent boards right there. The beach is beautiful, white sands, turquoise water and really, really hot sun all day long. A couple of ranchos right on the beach offer cold beers and simple but delicious food (quesadillas, fish tacos, mmm!).
Sunsets are spectacular. A full moon setting down the bay is a sight to wonder. The night stars will have you looking at constellations you've heard about, but never found the time to discover. The sounds of frogs, wind and ocean waves will lull you into sleep.
We love food, wine and entertaining. Our kitchen is set up with all the basic necessities to cook and enjoy company. A charcoal grill will help you improvise wonderful cooking adventures. A well-tended patch of fresh herbs right on the terrace (mint, oregano, culantro, basil, thyme and anise) may give you some inspiration.
El Remanso is a very private and quiet perfect beach. Sometimes you will have the beach all to yourself. House owners live there seasonally. Tourists from San Juan arrive typically for surfing lessons by late morning. We love quick day trips to San Juan to get our fresh catch of the day (red snapper, lobster, shrimps...). You can get a wonderful variety of seafood at “el Acopio” in San Juan’s harbour. A trip to the market and a mad rush to Pali (grocery store) for general stuff and vegetables typically complete the foraging. If you have the need for more stuff there is always Rivas (30 min) with a new La Colonia and Maxi-Pali - bigger supermarkets.
Eventually, when you feel the urge to check town, drive to San Juan! San Juan is a fun place day and night. Restaurants, bars, coffee places and WiFi everywhere can help you get your fix of crowds, noise, traffic, and night life. Boat rentals for fishing, snorkeling and exploring undeveloped beaches are available at the harbor. Last time we enjoyed an amazing ride alongside a couple of whales!
