You can see from the photos what a special house this is. What's less apparent is the micro location. This particular secluded beach is a gem on the eastern Baja coast, and only three houses share it. The water is aqua clear and warm even in December. We had a couple of issues with pool and shower heating that were quickly resolved. Yeyo was right there for everything and sweet to boot. Good to know that there are about 50 steps down to the beach but all of our three generations managed them easily.

Heaven in Los Barriles

The Red House delivered 8 days of extreme relaxation. Plenty of room for two couples to spread out and enjoy an amazing vacation. We swam, snorkled, kayaked and took in the views night and day. Only suggestion - do not use google maps or Waze -,follow the driving instructions provided by the host.

We have been to this region many times in the past but the Red House is truly at the top of our list! The beach is beautiful and secluded, perfect for swimming and snorkeling, and the infinity pool feels like you are floating above an endless horizon. The nearby town of Los Barriles is 20 minutes away and El Viejo, recommended in other reviews, does indeed have delicious tacos. Thank you to Jesus the caretaker, Adriana the caterer and Rosa and Robert the owners for such a welcoming and magical stay!

Absolutely Gorgeous

Our stay at the Red House was fabulous. The property comes exactly as advertised. A beautiful house with private pool & hot tub, artfully decorated, located on a private beach. Could not ask for more. Rosa and Jesus were excellent hosts, and very promptly answered any questions that we had before arriving, and during our stay. The local food in the town of Los Barriles and Cardonal was amazing. A very authentic Mexican experience. I highly recommend renting one of the ATVs that are offered with the house, as the road conditions leading into the property a pretty rugged and slow with a standard car. This is 5-star rental property. You will not be disappointed for sure.

Stunning

The house is architecturally interesting, lots of light, and graced with magnificent views and privacy. A better understanding of the beach access would have been good as I nearly invited my elder sisters to join us, and they would have struggled with it as well as the water entry/exit (although I know that varies every day and season). The snorkeling was wonderful- including a sea turtle, eagle ray, a moray eel and a zebra eel! Jesús was lovely, but not around much. He was good at connecting us with people who could address our issues, though. He and his son were great to talk with. I hope to return here before long!

Beautiful Ocean Front Home

We enjoyed a lovely 10 day stay at the Red House. The location was perfect, private and quiet, but within easy driving distance to Los Barriles for groceries, etc. Great snorkelling close to the house, and we recommend renting the 4x4 to explore the area. Jesus was always available to answer questions and was very quick to attend to a water pump issue that was promptly resolved. Property is very clean and well maintained. Everything worked well and the home was well equipped with all that we needed. The pool, hot tub and outdoor kitchen were all great features that we used often. It was a wonderful stay, and we would definitely recommend if you like to be secluded and away from town. We hope to stay again one day. Note: We did have our 74 yr old parents with us, and they managed the stairs to the beach well (they're steep but well built/sturdy and there's a rope railing most of the way) but the house is located on a pretty rough, dirt road that may make walking longer distances for elderly or less mobile people a little challenging.

Solitude and Serenity

If you find yourself in the need for a vacation away from it all, you’ve found the right house. Just book it now! Yes the road to get there is a rough dirt road, but we fell in love with it. Amazing views! The Red House is perfectly equipped to be your home base for an adventure vacation or stay put and enjoy the beauty that surrounds this house. The beach is gorgeous. The house is very comfortable. The pool is amazing. We enjoyed being able to snorkel right out front of the house. We found the snorkeling to be great at the far left end of the bay as well. The side by side was super fun. Los Barriles is an awesome town. The master is amazing. The guest bedrooms are separate from the main living area. By that I mean, there is a front door to the main living area with the kitchen, living room, master ect. Outside the master is a lovely outdoor common area with a master gate to lock up the property. The two guest bedrooms are down the hall from the main part of the house. So if you have little kids, they will have to walk down a hall way from their guest bedroom and enter the front door of the house to get to you in the master. Not a big deal for us (7yo and 10yo).

Secluded home with beautiful views

The Red House was a great stay for myself, wife and 17 yo son. Views are amazing, beach is very nice and quiet. Steps down to the beach were easy for us, but they are steps. House was overall comfortable. Pool and hot tub were enjoyed as well. If you’re driving in from SJD airport, it’s about 1:30 drive. There’s a Wal Mart about 20 minutes south of the airport to grab stuff to bring to eat/ drink before you go to the house. The last 30 min of the drive is gravel/rock/sand. No higher clearance car is needed. We drove a ford fusion and it did just fine. Jesus (the manager) rented us the 4 person atv for our entire stay for a fair price. Kinda worth it to me. Especially if you drive back south 30 minutes into Los Barriles for restaurants/kite boarding/ and shopping. There’s also very small store there with fresh fruits, vegetables, foods, beer, and wine. 5 mins north of the house is a small hotel resort with a restaurant also, pretty good, but mostly convenient. La Paz is about 2 hours north, whale watching, whale shark snorkeling is there if in season. If you just stay at the house, there’s about everything you need. Pans, pots, dishes, coffee maker, blender, oven, stove and microwave. Two Kayaks, each a single seater are there and in good shape. Very relaxing and beautiful stay at The Red Hose!

Epic Get Away

From the moment you walk in the front door and see the Sea Of Cortez spread out across the front wall of windows, you’ll know you made the right decision. The sandy beach in front of the house is beautiful and we only saw one other person the whole time we were there. We snorkeled with mantas & morays on the reef in front of the house, kayaked with dolphins, caught fish from the beach, & enjoyed drinks by the pool. Jesus, the caretaker, and his son, Aurelio, were lovely. We hired Chef Crystal to cook us a dinner that was a work of art, less expensive than the restaurants in town, & so much better. It's a no-brainer. We had fishingwithpuma dot com pick us up for a day of panga fishing. He was really fun and we caught BIG dorado. We also went fishing on a big boat with Jen Wren on the Reel Aquasition and caught marlin and tuna. Also very fun. From the airport to Los Barriles is easy paved roads. From there, you can take the beach road all the way to the house, which is about 15 K and took us 30 minutes in a Suburban and about 25 minutes in the side-by-side. You can also take the highway part way over the hill and then take the dirt road down the arroyo and connect with the last 5k of the beach road. That also takes about 30 minutes but is a little easier on your car's suspension and tires. Neither is bad if you have a little experience driving dirt roads. You do want a 4X4 if you rent a car. We will be back!

Amazing Escape

You've already seen the pictures - the house is as advertised, if not better in-person. Amazing, secluded and beautifully modern house with art and architecture everywhere inside and amazing views everywhere outside. We had the entire beach to ourselves during our stay, and the snorkeling rivaled (OK, honestly, exceeded) our Cabo Pulmo experience. Jesus, the house manager, is incredibly helpful. Notes for future travelers: Cooking: The house has a well-appointed kitchen - lots of spices, cookware, French press and grinder, blender, gas range, etc. The outdoor kitchen has its own fridge/freezer and a gas grill. Getting there: Rent an SUV. Its higher clearance will serve you well. With just an SUV, you can take either the dirt road all the way from Los Barriles or the windy mountain road and only last ~10 minutes on dirt. But those last 10 minutes were pretty rough in both cases (there was construction while we were there making it extra rough). Cell signal is spotty on both roads, so review/download the instructions and have a saved /offline copy of the map in your phone. House wifi is good. Finally, we were there in the middle of summer and the middle of the 2023 heat wave, so the house itself (walls, tile, etc) was very warm when we arrived because we were the first guests in awhile. There were regional power outages (2-3 hrs each) our first night and next morning, so our first 24 hours were rough. But after the house (and fridge) cooled down, we had a lovely stay.

Beyond belief!

That old cliché, words can't describe definitely applies here. From the moment you walk in, your jaw just drops. You will drift off to sleep listening to the surf against the cliffs and beach down below and wake up to the same with your coffee in the morning. House was immaculate and well stocked. Jesus, the property manager was there to greet us as we pulled in right at dark, helped with the bags and gave us a run down of the house. He is as incredible as the property. Made us feel like family from the moment we met him. We are sure the property owner Rosa, appreciates what an incredible resource she has in him. You can tell he truly cares about the property and takes pride in it. Speaking of Senora Rosa, her art work is as amazing as the rest of the house! Snorkeling right out in front of your private beach is world class. Speaking of private beach, we saw no one within a 1/2 mile of our beach for 5 days. Fishing is also amazing. Jesus arranged for a private Panga to pick us up right in front of the house with the boat and drop us off. Went out fishing for a day and boated 3 nice Dorado. We also ended up renting the Honda Pioneer UTV from Jesus as well. Cheaper than renting in town and a great, fun way to explore the town of Los Barriles and the beach front road that runs along the coast. Our rental car never moved the entire time we were there . If your only going to Baja once in your life, go here! That was our original plan but now we are already looking at a return trip next spring. Incredible views, peace and privacy

Our family really enjoyed our trip to The Red House. The view over the infinity pool over the essentially private beach to the ocean is incredible. Almost total privacy, just two other houses on the beach and we only saw an occasional maintenance person at either neighboring house for two weeks. We soaked in the relaxing sounds of the waves and watched whales, dolphins, rays, flying fish, pelicans and lots of other marine life. We also spent lots of time in the hot tub in the cooler January evenings. The home is full of original paintings by the owner, giving it a unique character. The ATV rental provided by The Red House was great for us to get up and down the dirt roads to go to the local markets or just explore the area. We also rented a car, which was necessary to get to Los Barriles for family dinners or larger grocery trips. Be aware that the location is definitely remote and not easy to access because of the dirt/rocky roads. The grocery selection even in Los Barriles is limited but we found local markets to get fruit and veggies and fresh tortillas! It is 30 minutes by car to Los Barriles. If you're looking for quiet, peace, relaxation and near-zero distractions, this is your place. Jesus, the property manager, is wonderful, caring, and available if you need anything. Also, we highly recommend Gerardo, the local chef who came to the house to cook several delicious meals for us. Note: the two guest bedrooms open to the front courtyard and are not inside the main house. We wanted to give 5 stars but there are a few opportunities for improvement. With just a small amount of "TLC" (mostly interior cosmetic) and a few updates this home would easily be 5 stars. We would definitely return to The Red House. We had a fantastic trip!

Our second time just as perfect as the first!

We returned here in March for spring break after a stunning week in June the year before. Weather was perfect. A bit of wind but nothing to deter swimming and beach play and fishing galore for my hubby just off the rock below the house. The house remains the stunning beauty it is. Jesús is amazing, accessible, super helpful. He had bait ready for my husband and dinner was delivered the night of our arrival in seamless timeliness and delicious. We were eight this time so it was more cozy. I would say six is truly the perfect number to enjoy this space. The kids were in the pool umpteen times a day. The hot tub at night was a special bonus for the adults. Some tips: get groceries aplenty and ice in town so you don’t have to leave the house for provisions. Download movies or entertainment for kids beforehand because internet not too powerful for streaming. We brought wetsuits and booties for swimming at the beach below as well as snorkeling and it helped with the colder water and rocky bottom- you don’t need to lug snorkeling gear like we did. The house has plenty and two kayaks for ready use. We brought binoculars and saw whales, dolphins, rays and sea lions just off our own shore just from the pool. The morning sunrise over the sea of Cortez is worth the 6 am wake up. Mosquitos are intense in the spring/summer. Our kids were eaten alive so be sure to prep or at least close screen-less doors at dusk. Cupboards don’t have much except very old spices and we left olive oil but bring your own cooking provisions and plenty of water as you only have enough to get started. Rosa is a doll. Jesús is a truly reliable and caring host. This place has become our home away from home and a magical memory for our family. Los Barriles is a hidden treasure of Baja, unclear how long it will remain a secret. Come while you can enjoy the serenity! Recommend Cactus rent a car at SJD airport. Very easy to book an affordable car on line and they pick up and take you from airport. Excellent customer service and an easy drive to Rosa House (67 km) from airport to your paradise vacation!

Best Vacation Stay Ever!

I can't say enough of the stay we had at this property. Stunning. Comfortable. Quality. Everything we could have wanted. Rosa has provided a truly unforgettable place for guests to stay. Her home is warm and inviting. Her art is beautiful. Jesus was incredibly helpful and friendly. I feel like we made a new friend. The location is quiet and I can't imagine there would ever be a more beautiful view. And, we love the little town of Los Barriles. It is very charming. We will definitely be back!
