Riverside cottages & watermill in Pons with heated swim spa / pool
We are located in the centre of town so you can walk to the bars and restaurants without having to drive. However we still have 4 acres of land surrounded by the river and countryside so it feels very secluded and private.
In the region of sunflowers and vineyards, midway down the Atlantic coast, the Moulin Chaillou nestles perfectly between the historic port of La Rochelle, the scintillating city of Bordeaux, the soft sandy beaches of Royan and the rolling countryside of the Cognac vines. Set in delightfully natural surroundings, Le Moulin Chaillou offers a quality waterside gite with separate access, in the ancient and medieval town of Pons, in the Charente Maritime region. Recently renovated to a very high standard, the gites are attached to the 14th Century watermill, brimming with character features such as original Charentaise stone walls and huge oak beams, pleasantly contrasting its modern facilities. Family friendly with baby equipment, gym and games area, bikes, fishing, canoeing and outdoor and indoor games.

We really enjoyed our holiday in this nicely renovated cottage. It’s located in a quiet town with nice surroundings. We did a lot of excursions to nearby cities and beaches. In the spare time the teenagers could relax in the spa and pool. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We sure can recommend this accomodation!
Thanks so much for our fabulous stay - what a beautiful place with everything we needed for a relaxing week. So much character and history and great hosts. Appreciated the fan given the hot weather! Hope we can come back one day.
We came for a week in July.
The gite was as described. We were welcome to use the washing machine - which was useful.
The pool is small - ideal for a quick dip to cool down, or for small kids.
There are lots of mosquitoes - we got a lot of bites. With hindsight, would have taken anti-mossie stuff. 🤷♀️

A lovely family. Unfortunately due to the 2 heatwaves mosquitoes have been a problem in most places of France this year. Fortunately with a flowing river this is less of a problem here but have supplied future guests with anti-mossie plugins so that there are no problems within the gites.

Wonderful location and fantastic hosts!
We loved our week in Pons and felt very much at home in our cosy cottage! Louise and Michael could not have been more welcoming and helpful! We received tips for attractions close to Pons and also further afield. Louise and Michael have done up the property with a lot of care and attention and clearly enjoy the presence of their guests. Pons is an attractive little town within walking distance. The 5 minute walk to the local bakery was an added bonus and we recommend their apricot tart! Talmont-sur-Gironde is only a short drive away and even St. Emilion can be reached in about an hour. We also thoroughly enjoyed the pool and the whirlpool! Thank you so much, we will be back!!!

Very clean, cosy, private, tranquil and relaxing.
The hosts Louise and Michael were very friendly and accommodating and made us feel most welcome. The gite was very comfortable and well equipped. Our morning walks around the several little islets of the mill were very relaxing and it was lovely to be in touch with nature. Restaurants and bakery all within a five minute walk. We would definitely recommend this property and area as a beautiful place to visit, especially if you're looking to relax and step back from everyday life.

Parfait!

About the host
Hosted by Louise & Michael Power, Le Moulin Chaillou, 17800 Pons, Charente Maritime, Franc
Our family consists of Michael and Louise, and our three bilingual children, who have lived in Pons for the past 12 years. We are both from the South of England. Louise is a singer and performs regularly in the region. We have renovated the two cottages and the water mill almost independently and have learnt a lot along the way. It has been a grand journey and we continue to enjoy sharing it with our guests. Our door is always open for help and advice and an afternoon apero and you will find us very approachable and sociable. So dont worry about anything during your stay. just come to enjoy this beautiful region and relax!
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this property from the very first moment we viewed it. It is tranquil, beautiful and oozes charm. It is situated just 5 minutes walk from the pretty, historic and medieval town centre of Pons. So you can walk over our islands and across an ancient bridge to get to the boulangerie. The river is very picturesque and our four and a half acres of land provide peace and tranquility and freedom for the whole family.
What makes this property unique
We are centrally located but our grounds remain private and tranquil. There are great benefits for children and adults alike. As we have children ourselves, we can offer all the comforts of home and all the amenities that you cannot fit in your boot! Frequently our children and our guests children end up all playing together. We have an indoor and outdoor play area, with table tennis, pool, boxing bag and weights gym, outdoor swing and slide area. We are very excited to open our new spa and swimming pool for June 2018. It is a luxury that we have always wanted for our guests and is finally becoming a reality! It is heated all year round and has some excellent features including 5 places for a spa experience and 5 turbo jets that you can swim against to get a greta work out!
