I am English, but spent my childhood travelling to many interesting places as my father worked in various parts Africa and also Borneo so I always say I had no fixed abode in the UK. I trained to be a primary school teacher and after one year went off to teach in Benghazi in Lybia. I met my husband there and we then spent some time working abroad before taking our two small daughters back to the UK.
Both my husband and I always had a sense of adventure, although Italy was hardly Africa, but by the time we went to Italy we had retired! We went out to Cortona just for a year back in 2002. Our plan was to rent a house for one year and then go back to England. After one year we decided to try another couple of years and we moved into another rental. It wasn't long before we realised that we couldn't leave Cortona. We had fallen in love with the town, the people and the way of life. We sold our house back in the UK and we were lucky to find Villa Torreone. The house and garden needed lots of work but we were lucky to find a great team of builders and we moved into the bottom apartment in May 2006. The upstairs was soon finished after that and ready to welcome guests.
Sadly my husband died only about a year after we moved into the villa and I now spend 6 months in the UK over the winter and 6 months in Cortona, driving back and forth with my 2 cats and an elderly dachshund called Lily.
I have lived in Cortona for about 19 years
I am a watercolourist and spend most of my summer enjoying painting plein air in the beautiful countryside that surrounds Cortona.
If you decide to spend sometime in my Villa you will be as captivated by Cortona and the surrounding countryside and hilltop towns as I have been.
